rudy indicted...

milner restaurateur randolph (rudy) vaughn was indicted today by a lamar county grand jury on 41 charges in connection with an interstate commercial cargo theft ring.

vaughn's live-in girlfriend, peggy ann dorsett, was indicted on 13 counts.

jerry lee vaughn was indicted on two counts.

lonnie d. hines was indicted on 10 counts.

the grand jury no-billed all the charges against tamiko shontee dorsett, clearing her.

barnesville cat killer back on the prowl...

if you live in the city of barnesville, you might want to keep a close eye on your felines.

over the last two weeks, two cats have been shot to death - apparently with a .22 caliber rifle, two more are missing and one is an amputee after going through $357 worth of surgery.

these shootings occurred in the area of greenwood, thomaston and tyler streets.

the attacks are similar to another on greenwood street in which a cat was shot to death in front of its owners several years ago.

if you have any information, a $100 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest. the barnesville police department is investigating.

grand jury still weighing case against rudy vaughn...

and his multiple codefendants who are charged with operating a interstate commercial cargo theft ring.

a decision on indictments is expected by the end of the day.

the grand jury covenened this morning, broke for lunch and reconvened at 1 p.m.

lamar jailers charged with sexually assaulting inmates...


lamar jailers reginald respress (front) and jarvis allen (rear) enter lamar county magistrate court this afternoon for a bond hearing. each is charged with two counts of sexual assault against a person in custody and faces 30 years in prison on each count.

the assaults involve alleged 'sexual contact' and 'oral sexual contact' with three different inmates.

judge william thomas set bond for each man at $10,000. both remain in jail.

the investigation was handled in-house by sheriff joe buice and his criminal investigations division.

locals popped for meth...

deputies visiting a monroe county house while investigating a theft thursday smelled a strong odor of marijuana and returned with a search warrant. they found pills, marijuana and methamphetamine.

three barnesvillians were arrested. they are:

jason lanier brown, 36: theft by receiving stolen property, cruelty to children, possession of marijuana and possession of schedule II drugs.

patrick winburn starr, 48: theft by receiving stolen property, cruelty to children, possession of marijuana and possession of schedule II drugs.

ramona marquita wall, 45: cruelty to children, possession of marijuana and possession of schedule II drugs.

the cruelty to children charges arose from the fact a child was in the home where the meth was discovered. in all eight people were arrested. all were charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

the others are: casey nicole evans, 20, stockbridge; joseph laimana, 22, forsyth; kyle dewain morgan, 38, forsyth; kevin shaw campbell, 34, forsyth; and samuel d. mccombs, 23, stockbridge.

justin and joshua moulder pleaded guilty to nine counts today in atlanta. they face up to 90 years when they are sentenced on february 9.

the lamar countians among the 430 employees at nacom in griffin who are losing their jobs to mexicans.

the plant wil close in 2008 and the company is moving that operation to durango, mexico.

a subsidiary of the yazaki corp. of japan, nacom opened in griffin to meet the american auto industry’s demand for junction blocks and body electronics. the 450,000-sq.-ft., vertically integrated facility houses plastic injection molding, electronic printed circuit board assemblies, junction box assemblies and metal stamping. much of the plant runs around the clock; the injection molding section alone produces some 4 million parts per month.

mike beatty (right) commissioner of the georga department of community affairs was here this afternoon to initiate agreements with barnesville mayor dewaine bell (left) which will include barnesville in dca's signature community program.

"this is a big deal. we reward you. we recognize you," beatty told the crowd.

bell reported beatty told him his first visit to barnesville 'took his breath away'.

"madison is a nice town but it doesn't have anything on barnesville," added beatty, a native of jefferson in jackson county.

alleged 'stop and cop' operator gets bond...


but can't meet it. mandrickas buckner, 21, remains in jail on two counts of sale of marijuana. his alleged drug market on kate court was under surveillance by cops and drug agents who arrested the lcms teacher of the year.
