This, in my opinion, the courts will have to decide. I am not familiar, but where there is smoke there is fire. A good chance some impropriety has taken place.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words.Well, not in this case. I have seen these horses and not in a picture. More than a dozen are sick and they are all skinny. Some have shoes falling off because they are way past due to be shod. I would like to see his feed bills, farrier bills,as well 99 coggins tests on all these horses. The feet I saw on them looked pretty bad. Yes I am a horse owner and yes I can show all the feed bills,vet records, deworming records and farrier dates for all 7 of my horses.These are just some of the major things that horses need done. Looks like his attorney needs to visit the horses before he stands up for his client. He would change his mind.
As far as the person who turned them in God bless you. The only way for you people to wake up is to go help care for the horses. Look at these depressed babies because they are so sick. Pray they will eat there food and clean up after them or is that to much for you? It would make you want to vomit to see what I have seen. fwiw, griffin circuit district attorney scott ballard told our sister publication, the pike journal-reporter, that very senior investigators from the ag. dept. who had previously "seen it all" were in tears over the conditions of some of the animals at the prater/allison farm.

It seems to me that bad photos would be first out on the media circuit. Why accusations would be made concerning animal cruelty and then post photos of healthy animals doesn’t make sense.

Yes, as a matter of fact, we ARE under a strict written order that all volunteers had to sign that we are not to discuss the matters with the horses because a criminal and civil investigation is ongoing. So, although free speech is permitted under normal circumstances, this contract takes precedence. The pictures that you saw online or in the news don't even begin to show the state of these horses. I, also, have been assisting with the care and cleaning up of these horses and can vouch for everything the previous Anonymous posts have stated. I do not want to even chance meddling in this investigation because I want Prater to pay dearly for what he's done, or been a party to doing to these animals. If he or his attorney or anyone else that knows anything about horses or their proper body mass index, by no stretch of the imagination could you tell me that these horses weren't being starved. There is one horse that only weighs 644 pounds. I have a horse that is the same breed and height as one of these we're speaking of and he weighs over 1000 pounds. Some of them are so thin and emaciated they cannot stand. I have not seen any of the horses that are quarantined because I don't want to chance bringing any diseases home to my own 5 horses.
Please be a little more open minded and less critical since you don't know first hand what is going on. I'm trying to be diplomatic here, but when people just shoot off irresponsible comments without knowing the facts, it's hard to remain as such. Again, we tell you that these horses were almost all starved and shockingly thin, and that is the fact of the matter. Some of them have auction stickers on their hind quarters that are so old it is seemingly melted into their hair. Those would probably be some of the ones Prater allegedly stole from Tennessee...or...excuse me...took without paying. Last time I heard about someone "taking without paying" for something, it meant you were a thief. Anyway, the bottom line is, the guy is a criminal and he shall be judged accordingly. I, for one, will be in court to watch his day of reckoning come.

I now have an understanding that those people assisting with care had to sign something that stated they would not discuss this case. Therefore, those people discussing this under a screen name (if they signed) are equally wrong to offer their opinions about it under a blog name just as much as they would be using a real name.
I won't comment any more about it and just let the investigation run its course.

First of all, it is not violating our agreement to discuss our opinions - it is a violation of our agreement to discuss facts that the media has not already divulged.
There sure seem to be some high and mighty people running their mouths. I say put up or shut up. If you don't like it, then you don't have to comment. But these 200+ animals didn't have a voice to speak for themselves and ask for help - so we'll do it for them. This is my first visit to a "Blog" and I'm less than impressed with what I've read! First of all I'd like to say, my REAL name is ksparker and what I have to say are FACTS! I was vacationing in Georgia during the time that the animal abuse case of Pike County became public. I spent all day on Friday Feb. 2 at a large boarding facility preparing stalls for the 99 horses being transported from Pike County. I thought I was prepared for what I was going to see but when these horses stepped off of the trailers I was appalled!! These undernourished and sick horses could bearly get off the trailers and make the short journey into the barn. I walked many of these animals to their stalls fighting back tears!! I was warned before they got there that most of these horses were wild and would probably be very hard to handle. These horses were so SICK and STARVED that they couldn't put up a fight even if they wanted to. The couple responsible for this should ROT in jail! G Mccall, I don't know what pictures saw of these horses but if you want the FACTS, why don't you shut off your computer and donate some time to help take care of these poor animals? Pitching a little "poop" never hurt anybody! It's sure better than talking it!!

I did see one correct statement in your entry and that would be that you have no clue! You must get a kick out of trying to insult the intelligence of people who call you out on something YOU sir said. Then you switch the conversation to the fact that you can respect someone who tells you who they are. OK Beez- I looked at 2 videos from 46 news and I'll agree that they didn't look like the other pictures that I saw. I guess I saw the white horse that you were talking about too. I don't know a great deal about horses but just from viewing the videos, many did appear to be under nourished. It doesn't matter about that, but what really got me to post again was the comment right before mine from anonymous - who gives a rat's a$$ what any of us here say when it all boils down to it - if you really had any intention of helping these animals, whether contributing your time or donations, you wouldn't have backed out by saying just because you don't like what someone says you're not going to do it now. That is just about the dumbest thing I've seen written on this whole entire blog. What the @#(&* does someone's comment have to do with helping these poor animals? And let me tell you, when we're at the barn feeding and filling wheelbarrows and mucking stalls, cleaning and filling water buckets, etc., we don't sit there and argue. When we're there, the only thing that matters is the work at hand. The comments are reserved for later and we all get along because we're all there to accomplish the same task - help the animals.

Thank you anonymous.It took him long enough to offer his help. He has treated people on this blog worse than what I have said. And first of all I never said I was at the barn.He should not have let it get this far as it has and nobody would have said anything negative. I do not have troubles working with people but I also do not let people b.s me around.I do not care WHAT YOU THINK.Doesn't look like you read well enough. He only stepped up after someone put it right in his hands, and alls he had to do is do a little homework. How hard is that? I have no problems doing hard work or researching something. How many times does it take to except an offer to find out the truth? At least you know where I come from and have no problems speaking how I feel.I would much rather someone speak the truth than hide feelings.So, thank you for you honest opinion.
I'm not about to start another war but, I encourage everyone to go back over everything they said. This all went to hell when I said the pictures I saw appeared to be healthy animals and that I knew one of the individuals that had commented about this issue. I wanted to know the names of other parties involved with the other side of the story. I'm not from Pike County and knew nothing of this until it appeared here. However, to obtain any answers, verbal bashings had to take place. I for one would like to know who I will be dealing with. I'm sure most of you are intelligent enough to know that people can write anything on a blog (factual or nonfactual). Beez finally offered another picture by posting a site to be viewed. Afterwards when I viewed the clips, I wanted to contact him but, more verbal abuse had to ensue. I don't mind making a donation to help out if the need is real. That's why contacts are important. I would also like to meet the people face to face that thinks I'm such an a**hole.
g mccall once again read over your own statements and realize you did some bashing yourself. Speaking down to people especially adults will get negative reactions. I felt like you were attacking the intelligence of the people who were stepping up to defend the animals and the volunteers. Saying things such as they have an intelligence factor of zero is bashing my friend. I agree with the post that states if you can't take it then don't dish it out! So what do you intend on getting out of meeting someone face to face that thinks you're an a##hole? That sounds like a blind threat to me. Maybe you're one of those bullies that never grew out of demeaning others for your own pleasure or maybe you're just real tough with words. Either way, you are just as guilty of attitude and bashing as any of the others so how about trying to treat others the way you wish to be treated and maybe you will get some respect.
Not a threat - an opportunity to show that I'm not.
Therefore, I apologize to anyone that has misunderstood me. I apologize for wanting to know the people asking for help. I apologize for wanting to understand some facts. I apologize for passing along other info I've heard. I aplogize to anyone I may have offended. I apologize for anything I've done that I'm not aware that I done.

Mr.Gary, tank you for stepping up. Now I hope we can stay on the right track:THE HORSES,it is going to take a long time for these horses to get on their feet. They will need all the donations and support we can give them. The money is slowing down and we need to find ways to keep the donations coming in. They need leather halters, wormer's,electrolytes,shavings, the wormer is Safe Guard or Panacure. They are the same thing just different names.

What happened to everybody?
Just to let you know, the owner will be getting some of the horses back.He has already picked out the ones he wants. I don't know about ya'll, but this isn't right! Guess, money talks in this case.
Haven't seen any of you at the barn to help out, what happened?
Several weeks ago one of the sick babies died. I wasn't going to let any of this out, but when the system is going to be like this, the public has a right to know. If you want to know if this is the truth, just go and show up to volunteer. They have been letting people show up cause they can't get any help.
About 40 horses were moved to the Decatur location and more should be moved this week. Only the sick ones will stay a little while longer.
