Were his grades not good enough to get into a real school? He was the top rated player in the state for goodness sake. The top rated player won't go to UGA. What is their excuse going to be now?

At least he is going to school. He should be proud and I am sure his family is.

Yes he's going to school. Yes they should be proud of him. Let's hope he'll take this as an opportunity and try to excel in his studies instead of skating by on his athletic abilities. So many kids think that they are owed because they have some abilities.

Oh for crying out loud, some people are such buttheads! The kid has accomplished a goal that is not very easily achieved. So what if he didn't get recruited by, or want to go to UGA. His GPA may not be 4.0, but that doesn't mean he can't go to college and continue to accomplish his goals. He and his family should be proud.

AMEN!

Maybe he wanted to go somewhere that has a winnig record. That kinda eliminates UGA and GT doesn't it?

Maybe he wanted to go where you could spell winning.

maybe his grades were TOO good for UGA...anyways, he comes from good genes...his uncle, Sheroid, was an all state linebacker and AJC Class A state Lineman of the Year at Gordon Military in 1970 and another uncle, Stanley, was a star for the Trojans in the mid 70s...congrats amd good luck to this fine young man

One thing is for certain, any high school athlete making it to the next level is an incredible achievement. I think it's less than 5% of all high school athletes make it to the collegiate level. So good on him. While we are talking sports, any UGA fan worth his salt needs to go to youtube and pull up matthew stafford and watch his senior year highlight clip. Another good one is Caleb King.

You'll need these kids to compete with National Champions FLORIDA GATORS!

For crying out loud!!! This is an accomplishment for any youth of today. Instead of belittling these kids or being critical, let's praise them and encourage them to continue to strive for even better. This is our future. Small town, small minds should not be the perception of our beautiful community.
It is great to be an athlete, but when it comes to "being in the real world," getting a job, and trying to survive, those future employers "might" look at the college you attended. They will look at:"DATE OF GRADUATION" before anything else and offering a job.
How can we "assume" this young man does NOT have the academic abilities to attend any school he wants? Have we thought about the fact that he might have family ties there? Have we thought about the fact that he might not have wanted to attend UGA? I might add his sister is a recent graduate from UGA as well as his Uncle? Have we thought about the fact this could have been the best scholarship offer that he received?
Please Barnesville- Lamar County, let's wake up.

It's nice that the young man is actually in college. A college degree will go along way regardless of where it's from!

In regards to the photo I don't see contempt or arrogance. All you have to do is look at the photos of any eighteen year male in a high school yearbook and you will find similar expressions. Seems to me as if he's assuming that "manly" posture that many young men of his age assume.

Well said...I agree

I dont see arrogance either but I do see a young man with a bright future as long as he doesnt fall into the Michael Vick school of life! Any young adult who succeeds in life to me is a great accomplishment. I say keep your studies top priority and football your favorite subject. You cant play football forever but you can be a doctor, or a lawyer. Way to go!
