pigskin prognostications, week 6

it's hard to believe we are already in the sixth week of the college football schedule. i went 6-4 last week. now 34-16 for the year: an average of .680.

kentucky@south carolina: the former mildcats are mild no more. ranked #8, they travel to williams-brice stadium to take on the #11 gamechickens in a great thursday night matchup. cocks are a 3.5 point favorite at home. methinks the feel good kentucky story continues for one more week at least as andre woodson feasts on the carolina secondary. kentucky 31 south carolina 20.

florida@lsu: the #9 gators travel to baton rouge to battle the #1 bayou bengals. florida was embarassed last week at the swamp by the struggling wareagletigerplainsmen. some of the swamis are picking the gators to win this game. i don't see it. neither does vegas where the pros have lsu as a 9 point fave. it will be closer than that. lsu 42. florida 37.

texas vs. oklahoma: the red river shootout in dallas finds the #10 sooners 11 point favorites over the #19 horns. again the spread is too large but the favorite wins. both teams are overrated. oklahoma 29 texas 24.

notre dame@ucla: lots of classics in this series but this game will be a dog! it is written: the irish sucketh! fatboy weis is searching for answers. surfer boy clausen is searching for styling gel. irish get whacked and go to 0-6, worst start in their history. ucla 48 notre dame 6.

stanford@usc: the cardinal (weird nickname) might as well peck at is reflection on the plate glass window. sliderule u - west coast campus gets walloped by the #2 trojans as o'j.'s number gets unretired at halftime and awarded to the nearest janitor. usc 66 stanford 17.

virginia tech@clemson: this game is a matchup of underachievers. there's a flat on #15 vt's beamer while the #22 tigers laid an egg last week at grunt field. thought here is virginia tech stinks slightly more than clem's son. vegas agrees, having installed those of the purple and orange unis as 5.5 point faves. that is about right. clemson 27 virginia tech 21.

vanderbilt@auburn: vandy has a better sec record than auburn going in but auburn is coming off a big upset of the reigning national champion florida gators. neither team is ranked. auburn is a 7.5 point favorite but is ripe for the upset pickin's. alas, the dores are not quite that good. auburn 21 vanderbilt 19.

utah state@hawaii: #16 hawaii is probably the best team you have not seen play. stay up late and watch them sometime. they are awesome. utah state gets a trip to the beach but little else. hawaii 51 utah state 14.

georgia tech@maryland: tech is a 3 point favorite at college park after upsetting clemson last week in a game in which the tigers played horribly. maryland is coming off an even bigger upset in which they stopped #10 rutgers. ralph friedgen is a great offenseve mind. chan gailey - uh, not so much. terps win at home. maryland 27 georgia tech 24.

georgia@tennessee: the #12 dawgs have won the last three at neyland stadium. the vols in tears come in having had a week off to prepare for this game. to win, georgia needs sophomore quarterback matthew stafford to handle the pressure of the big orange arena. mark richt knows a win is a must to stay in the sec east race. he is excellent in opponents' stadiums. dawgs win going away after getting some key turnovers and good special teams play. georgia 31 tennessee 20.

YOUR AVERAGE MAY DROP A LITTLE THIS WEEK BROTHER SCOOP.

NO ONE LIKES THE COACH FROM JOHNSON CITY, TN. THAT WEARS THE VISOR; BUT ALL OF US HAD BETTER GET ON OUR KNEES TO HIS GAMECOCKS TO DEFEAT THE BLUE DEVILS OF KENTUCKY. SINCE I DON'T REALLY THINK KENTUCKY HAS PLAYED ANY REAL COMPETION SUCH AS SOUTH CAROLINA, I LEAN TOWARD SC AND THE MAN WITH THE VISOR BEATING THE #8 KENTUCKY BY A SCORE OF 21 TO 10.

HERE'S ANOTHER TEAM THAT HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OFFENSIVE COMPETION, THE LSU BENGAL TIGERS. ANOTHER UPSET IN THE SEC. I WOULD HOPE AND PRAY FOR THE GATORS TO TAKE LSU BY THE SCORE OF 52 TO 48. NO DEFENSE.

TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA. WHO REALLY GIVE A RAT'S ASS UNLESS YOU ARE A OKIE OR A COWBOY. I SAY TEXAS BY A TD. 28 TO 21.

HERE'S ANOTHER LAUGHING STOCK WHICH USE TO BE A GREAT GAME UNTIL "FAT" CHARLIE ARRIVE A ND. THE IRISH HAD BETTER FIND RUDY AND PUT HIM ON THEIR SHOULDERS WHICH WOULD NOT DO ANY GOOD. UCLA BY MORE THAN 2 SCORES...UCLS 34 NORTE DAME 10.

USC/STANFORD.. HERE'S A TEAM WITH THE BEST OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IN THE COUNTRY. HE PLAYS A WAITING GAME AND WATCHES THE OTHER TEAM'S DEFENSE AND THEN MURDERS THEM. USC WILL TAKE THIS GAME BY 3 SCORES. USC 48 STANFORD 13.

NOW WE HAVE FRANK BEAMER'S THUGS VERSE THE CLEMSON TIGERS...LET'S GO TIGERS. BEAT THE FUTURE VICKS AND HALLS. CLEMSON 31 VT 13.

NOW WE HAVE TWO EXCELLENT COACHING STAFFS IN VANDY AND AUBURN. I HAVE SEEN AUBURN MAKING A HEAD WAY THE PAST TWO GAMES; BUT I DO BELIEVE BOBBY JOHNSON WILL SHOW THE PLAINSMEN THAT HE SHOULD BE THE HEAD COACH IN KNOXVILLE INSTEAD OF NASHVILLE. UPSET. VANDY 24 AUBURN 20.

HAWAII VERSE UTAH STATE IS ANOTHER GAME OF WHO REALLY GIVES A RAT'S ASS IN THE SOUTHEAST??? I WOULD BE A FOOL NOT TO TAKE JUNE JONES AND THE RAINBOW WARRIORS.
HAWAII 44 UTAH STATE 3.

I KNOW YOU DON'T LIKE THE FOOTBALL TEAM AT NORTH AVENUE AND FRANK GORDY'S VARSITY; BUT THEY WILL BEAT THE "FAT MAN" FROM MARYLAND THIS SATURDAY. GEORGIA TECH 28 MARYLAND 10.

I HAVE TO GO WITH YOU ON THE DAWGS WHEN THEY TAKE ON THE VOLS AT ROCKY TOP; BUT IT'S ALWAYS A TOUGH GAME WHEN PLAYING BEFOR 103,000 FANS AND MOST OF THEM DRESSED OUT IN ORANGE. YOU HAD THE GHOST OF THE GREAT PAUL "BEAR" BRYANT AT "BAMA", LISTEN FOR GENERAL NEYLAND IN KNOXVILLE. THE DAWGS WILL HAVE THE CROWD IN ORANGE QUITE BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER. GEORGIA 38 TENNESSEE 10.

GOOD LUCK SCOOP.

Did anyone check out the front page of the AJC sports section yesterday? Gave props to a Lamar Countian for holding the GHSA passing record...524 yards in a single game.

Anonymous said...

wdm that wouldve been Ronnie Hinson in a win over Troup back in 1978. I had the pleasure to block for Ronnie in that game. The amazing thing about it was that we only scored 48 points that night and two touchdowns came on defense. I will never forget Red Jackson picking a pass and going about 70 yards for a score. He was so slow it took almost a whole quarter for him to ramble that 70.

boy getting old is hell. Make that 1977 on the passing record. And thanks wdm for alerting me to that article. I didnt know about the kid from Henry County nearly breaking the record.

I am a DAWG, but I look at reality and accept it. The reality is after watching Kentucky & the gameCOCKS, sPURRIER is back and will take the COCKS to Atlanta in Dec. & beat LSU this time to take the SEC. I hate it! but life sucks when the top COCK is on the sideline.

Anonymous said...

hold that thought 10:17
Mr. Reality DAWG

UGA will win out & beat LSU in the dome. cocks will lose 2 and be out. the visor will be worn out by December

Anonymous said...

Dawgs has a hard road ahead of them in order to get in the SEC game. We definitely have to beat Kentucky and Florida.(oh and Vandy).

Anonymous said...

Yeah the Dawgs do have a tough schedule, but I think thats great. Will determine if they really are good. I hate it when teams get high rankings w/o playing anybody worthwhile. Go Dawgs!!

Anonymous said...

Nice 322. Georgia is ranked 12th and they havent beaten a soul. The only real team they have played, USC east, beat them. Yeah i hate it when teams are ranked so high but havent played anyone, too.

Anonymous said...

As long as dem DAWGS keep on gettin it done, I could care less about these haters.

Anonymous said...

wish i was up on ole rocky top!!!

You puppy fans can pretty much put ketchup and mustard on "dem dawgs" cause they're done!!! LOL!!!
