is a 24-foot long ice machine....

that is eight feet wide and nine feet tall too big for a convenience store parking lot in the bvl?

that is what judge bill fears must decide after a hearing today in lamar superior court.

note: the image above was retrieved online, is used for illustration purposes only and does not necessarily reflect the appearance of the machine proposed for barnesville.

more where you would expect it at lamar's definitive news source

This is horrible!
This must be stopped at all cost!
If we let this giant machine into our town it will surely destroy us all with its ice spewing capabilities!
Yank, Yank.
Is this really an issue?
Someone wants to make a buck or two with a large ice filled box and all we can do is bitch about it.
In my opinion, like it really matters, we should allow businesses to venture out into ice machines- HOLD ON WAIT FOR IT- as long as people are willing to buy ice. HOLY CRAP, I KNOW HE DIDN'T!
Just like with any private property the government should take a step back and quit trying to decide what is best for individuals and thier property.
I can't build a damn shop at my house without paying you first for a freakin permit and the poor sap who owns an ice vending machine can't place it into a parking lot without someone complaining about zoning laws.
Is it the business of the city or the owner of the property as to whether or not this should be placed on his property?
Who's opinion matters more, the one generating the taxes or the group collecting them?
This is just one of a million cases a year that lets you know that we are hell bent against letting the private market handle itself.
Maybe this ice box will be so big that it could prevent Barnesville from being destroyed by Global Warming!
I really would like to know the harm this machine would do.
Maybe it eats children?

I am a parts supplier to the company manufacturing these units and live in Lamar Co.
These units are self contained ice making machines. If we were to lose power for any extended time just pull up a water tanker and hook up a generator and what do we have, all the ice we need. This should be looked at as an asset to our community. FEMA was looking to installing a string of these machines along the Gulf coast in case of a natural disaster.
I see no issue here at all.

It's a great idea let's put two or three in the same park lot, maybe then these high price stores would lower their price. That way i want feels like im being robbed when i pay 1.50 for a ten pound bag of ice.

Good grief.

The City and county lets trash pile all up. Just look at the dumpy area on College by the curve at the RR tracks. Look at the tire stores around town. Look at the trash out in the county, it isn't just the city.

The county wants to rehire fired workers at a raise or people who were voted out to monitor the resources of the person who won the election.

The city wants to steal county money from the Ag Authority.

They want to stop an Ice Machine like it will ruin our image?? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

Just what image are our leaders trying to protect?

Can't be any uglier than a number of current businesses, not to mention many of the mini-strip centers in the county.

I have noticed these in other towns & they are less of an eyesore than many convenience stores, tire stores or laundromats.

Since Joe has already started campaining for re-election, maybe the next article we see in the paper will follow up with his promise to get the litter cleaned up.

I think that the towns people will fight anything that has progress on it. Progress is always happening, nothing can change that. The towns people need to relize that if they keep being petty about everything, that when the important issues come up, no one will listen. Fight the important fights, smile at the petty stuff. You will get more accomplished.
