charlie mays, a man dubbed a 'career criminal' by law enforcement, has rejected a plea bargain and will stand trial before a lamar county jury next week.
mays has one of the thickest - if not the thickest - arrest records in lamar county. he will be tried next week on charges stemming from an incident in which he stole a car from a thomaston street home.
mays faces up to 17 years in prison and will serve every day of it if convicted due to his status as a recidivist.
if you are among mays' many victims over the years or are just fed up with those of his ilk walking the streets, contact the office of the judge of superior court at 770.358.5156 and urge maximum punishment.

This is something we all need to do. Let's keep our streets safe.
I feel he chose the jury trial on the advise of his geek public defender, who sees and opportunity to make the taxpayers pay to put this person away for a while. Maybe the geek lawyer should go with him, after conviction.
It only takes one juror to free him. I'd take that risk over definite jail time regardless how guilty I might be.
The biggest problem here is the man's untreated, unrehabilitated drug addiction. The man is physically sick moreso than a criminal. The criminalization of drugs is the reason that Mr. Mays is labeled a "career criminal." Because it has now become virtually impossible to treat a person afflicted with an addiction of this magnitude and nature, the criminal justice system has been given the burden, the duty, and the responsibility to punish the addict. It really is a sad, sad commentary on the American judicial system and the so-called "war on drugs." This man is existing so deeply on the abyss of society that confinement really is the only option. He can't fully function in society with a progressively worsening illness. Only an act of GOD can save Mr. Mays from himself.
wholy crap this guy is scum i knew it would'nt be long before somebody put the blame on socity instead of where it belongs
He chose to do drugs therefore making himself a drug addict just because he has a drug addiction does not make him any less guity and therefore he is a criminal. Don't blame society for this persons behavior. Come on now you are not born addicted unless your mother was or is an addict. Maybe that act of God should come sooner rather than later!
If he's a drug addict he's more dangerous out on our srteets. He chose to do drugs.Chose to commit crime. He won't be able to commit any more crimes or hurt anyone if he goes to jail. Put him where he belongs. Prison!

I agree 100%. I only pointed out the obvious because this is happening all over in our judicial system. Drug-addicted criminals are wreaking havoc on an already overly-burdened judicial system. It is not society's fault in the least. It's the legacy of the drug epidemic--legions of addicts committing petty crimes and felonies and costing taxpayers excessive amounts of money to finance the result of their undisciplined compulsions.
Great post, 11:22AM!
Let him free and he will go rob the "wrong" house one day. Some people have their own judge, jury, and executioner fully loaded for this kind of waste of human flesh.
Did bpd or lcso get this guy?
bpd
Just heard there will be no jury trial. He changed his plea to quilty and the judge gave him 10 years but he only has to serve five????? This is what the judge decided.
Unbelievable! No wonder these people comit crimes. There is basically no punishment.
And the crime goes on!
Hey they have it better in jail than they do on the streets three hots and a cot and not having to worry about where they'll spend the night. Hell if I were that hard up for a place to stay I might consider a life of crime. The have it so much better.
BOREING!!!!!!!
