county may have to borrow money again...

and the commission tonight authorized the chairman to negotiate and sign a line of credit for up to $1.5 million to be repaid before december 31, 2007 with tax revenues. this has been a routine occurrence here for the past several years.

chairman jay matthews and commissioner gene hardwick suggested that the need for a line of credit indicated poor budget planning and said a meeting with all department heads and constitutional officers should be called to discuss across the board belt tightening.

"we may need to revise some budgets this year," matthews argued.

the two local banks will bid on the credit line.

what do you think?

Why would they suggest poor management pratice with their record. As far as poor management pratice goes, they are already at the top. They just gave away over 1.5 million to the city. Maybe they can kiss up to them for a loan.

i'll be guessing 1st national bank because it has ties in the family.

Do they want an uprising? Let them suggest a tax increase and they might get one.

Which county departments are over budget? Who is signing the checks and approving their spending?

Anonymous said...

What is so difficult about not spending more than is budgeted? Are any department heads accountable for their spending?

As a local vendor I thank the commissioners for using a bank to extend credit and not my business again. The county owed my business several tousand dollars last year for many months and it hurt.

sounds like to much was budgeted based on revenues

anon 9:49am you are correct. i am a local merchant that was in same position. guess now that county is paying thier bills they realize they donot have as much money they thought

If the tax office can seize your property for taxes owed and sell it after you have worked hard to pay for it. then they should be put on a budget to show them how it feels to live within their means. Don't keep robbing the working tax payers to help fund their expenditures.

This has to be ignorance at its highest level. The county is talking about the possibility of making a loan just after they completely gave away assets that would total twice the amount of the line of credit they want. But another important detail is the fact that the county taxpayers can not see what has taken place or else refuses to. They should be wanting to hold these leaders accountable. There would be no need for a loan, plus the budget could have easily been balanced had your leaders saw fit NOT to give away YOUR property.
Yes I did say your property. You, the county citizens, are totally responsible for those assets. I can't understand how intelligent individuals can let this sail over their heads for a lack of understanding and then hail the commissioners for their ignorance. How far will you let your commissioners go before you say enough is enough?

YOU ARE JUST PLAN STUPID!

HEY 6:11pm what in the hell are you talking about. The property had nothing to do with the county being broke. The budget was never based on that property of money. The CDs are still in the bank and can't be touched to balance the budget. The county is broke because of past poor management, revenues and expenses out of wack spending out of control and the sorts. Has nothing to do with the ag assets. As a matter of fact once the land is sold the county will be in better shape. I see on the web site that rudys is being sold finally. I am one of the local vendors that carried your a$$ and the other tax payers last year for months while the county was broke last year but did nothing about it. I begged for payment for months and got paid in full in late February this year. The county would be even broker if they had filed a stupid lawsuit and ended up with nothing but a big legal bill.

I also know I was not the only supplier not being paid. I was told the Sheriff could not even but tires because of unpaid bills at the tire store. So lets not get started on the county being broke now because of the ag assets.

WAKE UP!

6:16 and 6:28 I guess we should all kiss your a$$ for coming to the rescue. Well you all don't save the county on your own and if you think you did then you all need to wear the banner of stupid. Are you capable of understanding English? I know what I'm talking about. Do you? Climb off your high horse.

OMG 6:16/28. Pat yourself on the back you dumbass. NUFF SAID!

6:11; Sorry you have the weight of Lamar County on your sholders. The unused SPLOST money from 2000 can be used to reduce the debt. It is money remaining after the SPLOST contract that expired on Dec 31, 2005. Section 6 of the contract states that excess funds will be returned to the county for reduction of the debt. I would have thought that someone of your intelligence would have known that.

Anonymous said...

Correction.... Sorry 6:11. This was for 6:28PM.

Anonymous said...

7:51 you may be correct but with all the unnecessary BS from a very few citizens i guess our county leaders are giving an abundance of caution before transfering the SPLOST money to the general fund for other uses. They have some legal steps to take first. Makes sense to me that the commission did good by setteling this matter to keep us out of more debt. Had it not been setteled we would hve large legal bills with none of the money or land. SO HOW DID THIS SETTLEMENT LEAD TO BREKING THE COUNTY?

Anonymous said...

12:15 no wise crack meant but you need to get schooled up on what took place with the transfer of all the land. The county were the big losers in that deal. 3 to 4 million dollars.

Anonymous said...

6:11PM pissed me off so I checked out the details for myself. It looks like the county really did get the short end of the stick. The city was more interested in money than they were solving the problem. When our own folks start wanting to steal from each other then who can you trust. I am going to do my part by doing what I can to replace them.

Just have JB put some more units on I-75,he already got two go ahead and put a couple of more. Just wondering how you do burglary suppression when you got units out on 75?? Not trying to start anything, I'm just asking.

Anonymous said...

I had understood Joe to say during his campaign for Sheriff that he was not going to put units on I-75 or at least very seldom. Seems like he is doing just the opposite of what he said.

Also, why can't the jailers secure the jail. Hell, the inmates are already locked up and they continue to give the Sheriff trouble. Put thier a$$ behind the bars and lock the damn door. How hard is that. Do we need to hire Barney to run the jail?

How can we expect the Sheriff to protect us when the bad guys are out of jail when he can't even secure them when they are in jail?

Anonymous said...

WHY DON'T YALL DUMB ASS PEOPLE QUIT ALL THE SLANG ABOUT THE SHERIFF. IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM THEN VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE. UNTIL THEN SHUT THE HELL UP. jb did say in his campaign that he would cut down on the interstate policing but after getting into office and doing some research he saw what a lucrative phase of enforcement it would be for bringing in funds so he stuck with it and it has done very well and pays for itself. as for the jail, no one has escaped on JB's watch. yes there have been a couple of incidents, as there are in any detention facility, but no one has left of their own accord.

nice tries though. thanks for playing

Anonymous said...

I found a BUTTHOLE he calls himself BOSS HOG him and JB would make a great couple.

Anonymous said...

If this is a game then you loose. I think there has been more than a few incidents. Yall ought to start sending you tapes in to bloopers. Then you would win..... some money.
