I find it funny that when backed into a corner reasons start to appear that were never there before. Meeting minutes should have already identified this, but after over a year it hasn't until now. How long does it take to manufacture reasons. Who is helping out with it. Hogwash! How dumb do you think we are?

CAVE people and inquiring minds want to see the evidence!!!!

Sounds like a CYA effort!!!!

Bring forth the AG Authority Chairman to make thier case. In the meantime there are more questions than answers.

Approaching the chairman (Bobby Burnette) doesn't make it an offer. It should have been brought up at a commission meeting. The whole deal just doesn't sound right. I see no reason for the secrecy or the delay in explaining it. Who stands to profit from this? Maybe we should call a real investigative reporter to check on this. Anybody have Mark Winne's number from channel 2?

Scoop,
You missed the scoop.

i am interested to know what you folks would do regarding this matter if you had absolute authority to resolve it.

If I had absolute authority, I would do the following...

1. Decommission the AG Authority.

2. The County would take charge of the property, it assets and the SPLOST monies.

3. I would reserve some land for the expansion of the jail facilities, etc.

4. The remaining land would be put up for sale to the highest bidder. One caveat, if the BOE was the highest bidder they would have to float bonds for financing. The BOE would not be allowed to backdoor the taxpayers of Lamar with a school tax increase to pay for the land.

5. SPLOST monies would be divided
among all political subdivisions, ie, City, County, Milner, etc, to be spent as designated by SPLOST guidelines.

As a benevolent dictator, I would solve the AG Authority problem in a heartbeat.

brother galt...that is an excellent plan!

perhaps we will get more.

Heck, I left off the most important caveat. Here goes...

Once the AG Authority propery is sold, all monies have to be designated as "tax relief" for the hard working taxpayers of Lamar County. As the benevolent dictator, I probably would amortize the monies over 3-5 years for tax relief.

None of the AG Authority monies could be used by any of our Commissioners to support their little political fifedom projects. Our brilliant Commissioners would not be allowed to ever use any of the AG Authority monies for any reason other than tax relief.

Now, that is my solution to the AG Authority fiasco.

The division of the SPLOST money is a moot point. The contract has expired and all that money is to come back to the county and be used to reduce the debt. That is how the law is written. That money is not to be shared at all, for any reason.

And don't get sucked in to what would you do if you had absolute authority. It is an attempt to turn attention away from the subject. How long has little things been going on behind the taxpayers backs. This is just one example. If everyone will remember not long ago, an attempt was made to use SPLOST money in leiu of a loan. Another example of deception on the taxpayer.

What a screwed up mess the constant mismanagement or slack management of resources in this county are.

We have commissioners like Hardwick who need so much to do they serve (illegally) on multiple agencies, while the same group of commissioners can't seem to handle very simple things that are clearly written in law.

I wonder when people in this county are going to wake up and start demanding elected officials and people appointed to boards follow the law and also do what is right for the general population instead of themselves or their buddies.

Run the ag authority out of town on a rail.

That'll never happen until you folks stop being 'enablers' for those in positions to abuse the system.

Why wait. Lets go ahead and and call the Dept of Revenue and the DCA now. Get the state agencies investigating the past operations to find out whats been going on.

If all this garbage changes or damages the possibility of attracting the new Chinese business coming to Barnesville, whos fault will it be?

Anonymous said...

You can bet the deal with the Chinese isn't so sweet for us either.

I haven't read the details yet but I'll venture a guess how it will work.

They will not pay any taxes or greatly reduced taxes, we will buy them a building and land.

They will bring some property of theirs that they greatly infalte the value of and put it in the building we buy.

After the tax abatements run out, they will take all of the things they brought and move them to another place where someone else buys them a building and gives them a tax break.

We will wind up with building and land and nothing inside.

Why do I think it will happen that way? They are smart. We are dumb. Unless we keep giving and giving they will pick up and leave and we will be stuck with another empty building.
