there was nothing but the highest of praise for barnesville and its welcome from participants in today's heart & soul tour which stopped in town for an hour.
visitors were greeted by gideon barnes, buggies, antique autos and locals in period dress like scott tenney (left above).
"we knocked their socks off," one particpant in the tour welcome noted.

No on seems to be interested in something positive that goes in throughout our community, huh?
Well I have a full time job and missed it all so i cant comment. Glad it was a success.
I think Scottie looks wonderful in Tech colors.
Good for Barnesville. We have heart and soul but no meat. We need industries to move here. People keep moving in. Schools keep growing. Government keeps increasing. We have no way to pay for these except through increased property taxes. We don't have the infrastructure or the resources to pay for these "improvements".
If a household is running short of funds, they cut back or use what they have more efficiently. Not governments. They just raise taxes. Saying my property value has gone up 24% in the past year is ridiculous. I live on a dirt road for pete's sake. Ten years ago they said it would be paved within five years. Liars. But they have continued to raise my property values anyway.
You can have all the pomp and circumstance you want. It's all smoke and mirrors. People sleep in Lamar/Barnesville, but they work, shop and play elsewhere. I love Lamar County. I have lived here my whole life. I will probably die here. I just hate to see it die because of lack of leadership.
but where is the yogie outfit
Take it from someone who has been through the process with lamar co paving roads. They will not take the initiative to do it they will contract it out If you ever get it paved.
hmm....maybe people weren't interested because it didn't really effect the majority of the community. did they tour the "real" barnesville, or just the Thomaston Street area? because i can tell you, the majority of Barnesvillians are more like me than them....
I thought they toured greenwood st
same situation....
Are you kidding?
Everyone did a great job and the town looked great. Although the whole thing reminded me of the movie Funny Farm, where everyone put on a act inorder to get his house sold. All we needed was for a dog to haul ass around town.
