first ever recreation football team...


in lamar county.

whom do you recognize?

this photo was provided by former county commission chairman bobby burnette. his father, w.t. burnette, funded and coached the team. the elder burnette was also a commissioner.

I recognize Merritt Taylor, Lorie Taylor, Russell Jackson, Tommy Lane, and Tommy Fountain, Plus Jimmy Burnette at the bottom, will have to study to pic again.

You're asking about a date. Judging from the ones that have been recognized, it must be about 1902 or 1903. The Taylor boys are at least that old.

Tommy Fountain, Bobby Williams and Merritt Taylor and 5th row is Otis Askins, John F. "Buddy" Shiver, Tommy Jack Van Houten and David Willoughby. The team was coached bo Bobby Burnette.
