McCreary should be
admired for his tenacity
No matter how you feel about Rick McCreary’s challenge to the result of last year’s primary vote in Lamar County, you must admire the man for his tenacity.
Despite long odds, McCreary took his fight all the way to the Supreme Court before losing. In his quest for pristine voting lists and squeaky clean elections, he spent $13,000 of his own money, fast-tracked the effort to form a county elections board and jump-started a separate state probe into last year’s vote.
“My goal was to try to change the process for future elections,” McCreary said.
By any measure, McCreary has succeeded in that effort and he is to be lauded for sticking to his guns.

Every honest citizen in the county should be grateful to McCreary as if not for him, the recent election board change would never have taken place. Even if you can't stand the man or his views, anyone who makes sure every vote is properly counted is true American.
what proof do we have they were not being counted before?
I find it interesting that McCreary 'matters' to you now.
He didn't matter before, when you thought Bobby would be re-elected.
Of course, he lost.
This post belies your true attitude, which you can't hide. "No matter how you feel about..." implies that McCreary is somehow controversial, which he is not.
I think you have treated McCreary exactly as you have a number of others who disagree with your political platform in the last few years. McCreary has been controversial only to the extent that he has upset your and your pals' collective apple carts.
You thought Bobby would win, didn't you?
Gene is up for re-election soon. I hope he's ready. He may be the next to be voted out of office.
McCreary is a great American who deserves our unflinching respect.
This is true always, not just when it is politically ok.
I think the true test would have been if Rick had won, would he have the same questions. If you believe he paid with his own money i have a ocean front property in Tennessee I would like to sell you. Rick does remind me of a "true" American, Bill Clinton. He is in it for himself. Just research his salary and other dealings of the water Water Auth. when he was in charge. You will get a better picture of poster boy Rick.
I was of the impression that his financing was coming from a group of developers in Henry County.
I cannot give him the acolades you do. I feel it was stricktly for self, none of this sqeeky clean nonsense, that you gave.
I don't care where he got his money from; the fact that Lamar County is now making positive changes to the voter management process is the important issue. What he would have done if elected or where he got his funding is moot since he lost the election and the appeal.
Leave Mary Fletcher alone. If she were white you would not consistently publish her name in your fish wrapper week after week.
Publish more about the white corruption in Barnesville including the judge, the sheriff office employees, the crooked election tampering, etc.....
Anon 1049,
Do what you people do best...keep using the race card. I guess it is the white people who made her buy drugs and she only got caught because she is black. Poor Mary.
I think maybe, and this is just my opinion, that Mary got and is getting a lot of publicity because she is not just your average jobless dope head. This is a person who works with CHILDREN. I dont think race has anything to do with it. Anyway, Im sure some other school with hire her. For some reason teachers can just float from school to school, no matter their backgrounds. How sad.
what does Mary Fletcher have to do with this blog? I thought we were speaking of Rick McCreary. Also, I get tired of constant playing of a race card. There have to be better arguments, if not, silence is golden.
I was thinking the same thing. I havent seen her name in a while.
I don't care where the money came from either. The end result is that lazy person who was supposed to make sure records were up to date no longer can sit back and let the records continue to be a mess.
Now the state is finally involved, and hopefully next election we can be sure records are accurate.
The problem with our local government is the same as the national government. People elected or appointed don't do their jobs.
It starts right at the top with George Bush and his sneaky poor management style. Chicken Bush who hid from VietNam with daddy's help has got us into deep trouble in Iraq, something that might not have happened if his daddy let his son learn what life was really like.
The same thing happens here with people protecting each other, and people being allowed to do a slack job by the public acccepting substandard honesty and performance.
It's too bad it took Rick McCreary to force people to do the right thing. We got rid of slacker Bobby, slacker Bobbie, Patty, Henry, and a few others doing the taxpayers harm. Now someone needs to sue the Board of Assessors and make them do their job. After that we need to get rid of the IDA. Missy is running around telling businesses that are perfectly happy here how to get out of paying taxes, and we are giving breaks to an employer every time they whine.
We should thank Walter for all he has does. Walter could be more supportive of the regular Lamar citizens interests. He is still our best news source.
