weapons in vehicles...

the georgia general assembly is considering legislation that would ease restrictions on those who carry loaded weapons in their vehicles. currently weapons must be in the glove or similar compartment.

do you carry a firearm in your vehicle and/or keep one nearby in your home or place of business?

why or why not?

I hope they will rethink that one.
Gives the criminals a free hand, in my opinion

Australia passed strict laws requiring citizens to turn in their hsndguns. The law abiding citizens complied. The criminals kept theirs. As a result, major crimes such as murder, armed robbery and assault have increased dramatically. The bottom line: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Phil: I dont think this applies to Australia's act. It says to me that it is ok to have a concealed weapon in your car. I fail to agree with that. I have no difficulty with a weapon in the car if it can be seen

About time we even up the odds. Now I can keep my SKS and a few hundred rounds with me where ever I go. Bring the bad guys on.

i think its a great thing,i just think that the law enforcement officers out there that try and make it safe for people are going to have to be a little more cautious in their work,we can keep passing all the laws you want about gun control, but the criminals will keep getting guns no matter what, take a look at most of the past dictators like hitler stalin, mao Ect.. the first thing they did was to disarm the public

Anon 10:40 a.m. I think you misunderstood my point. I was trying to show what happened in a country that obeyed the law and turned in their firearms. Now all the criminals have firearms and the crime rate is risen. Your vehicle is an extention to your home and you have the right to carry a gun in your vehicle. However, it should be in plain view and not concealed in the glove box. It would also be wise to inform a law enforcement officer if you are stopped that you have a gun in the car.

Phil I better understand. My concern on this law is the Concealed weapon provisions, that allow a person to hide their gun.
I do not object to having a gun in the car as long as it is visible

The reason behind a law requiring that guns be kept in glove boxes or trunks is so that they are hidden and so less likely to be stolen. Given the irresponsible nature of many people, I can see them going into the convenience store and leaving their handgun on the seat or floorboard where it will be taken by a criminal.

As to police being more careful, in most states a cop can run your plate and find out that you have a registered handgun and they routinely do and so will approach your car with extra caution anyway.

Lastly anyone who believes that the first thing that Hitler and other dictators did was take away peoples guns, need to study some more history.

you will see alot more break ins....crooks are going to try to find out who has one in the car and trucks

Crooks probably dont register their guns either so running plates really dont matter as far as that goes

Just go ahead and get a Georgia Firearms License and it won't matter.
