I'd like to reply to those anonymous people that made the statements against Christianity, our forefathers, and the founding of our great nation. Here are a few words from some of our United States presidents along with some actions by our government.
It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.
George Washington 1789 -1797
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
John Adams 1797 - 1801
The God, who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.
Thomas Jefferson 1801 - 1809
The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.
John Quincy Adams 1825-1829
The Bible is the rock on which this Republic rests.
Andrew Jackson 1829 – 1837
We have reason to renew the expression of our devout gratitude to the Giver of All Good for His benign protection.
Martin Van Buren 1837 – 1841
It becomes us in humility to make our devout acknowledgments to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe for the inestimable civil and religious blessings with which we are favored.
James Polk 1845 - 1849
Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right.
Abraham Lincoln 1861 - 1865
Hold fast to the Bible. To the influence of this Book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization and to this we must look as our guide in the future.
Ulysses S. Grant 1869 – 1877
Conscience is the authentic voice of God to you.
Rutherford B. Hayes 1877 – 1881
I know there is a Supreme Being who rules the affairs of men and whose goodness and mercy have always followed the American people, and I know He will not turn from us now if we humbly and reverently seek His powerful aid.
Grover Cleveland 1885 – 1889 and 1893 - 1897
A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.
Theodore Roosevelt 1901- 1909
We do not need more intellectual power, we need more spiritual power. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen.
Calvin Coolidge 1923 -1929
Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies. Those whom God has so joined together, let no man put asunder.
John F. Kennedy 1961 – 1963
The men who have guided the destiny of the United States have found the strength for their tasks by going to their knees. This private unity of public men and their God is an enduring source of reassurance for the people of America.
Lyndon B. Johnson 1963 – 1969
The separation of church and state is a source of strength, but the conscience of our nation does not call for separation between men of state and faith in the Supreme Being.
Lyndon B. Johnson 1963 – 1969
Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.
Ronald Reagan 1981 – 1989
If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.
Ronald Reagan 1981 – 1989
Within the covers of the Bible are all the answers for all the problems men face.
Ronald Reagan 1981 – 1989
We are never defeated unless we give up on God.
Ronald Reagan 1981 – 1989
Part of our essential humanity is paying respect to what God gave us and what will be here a long time after we're gone.
William J. Clinton 1993 -2001
The momentum of freedom in our world is unmistakable - and it is not carried forward by our power alone. We can trust in that greater power Who guides the unfolding of the years. And in all that is to come, we can know that His purposes are just and true.
George W. Bush 2001 – Present
Dear Sir:
No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins.
Secretary of the Treasury
Salmon P. Chase
Congress passed the Coinage Act on April 22, 1864 and “In God We Trust” first appeared on the 1864 two-cent coin.
June 14, 1956 President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorizes the phrase "under God" should be added to the Pledge of Allegiance?
July 30, 1956 a Joint Resolution of the United States Congress is signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, authorizing “In God We Trust” as the United States national motto.
The U. S. Supreme Court issued bans on prayer in public schools in 1962 and in 1963 as the result of a court case sponsored in part by Madalyn Murray O'Hair. The ban not only outlawed prayer in public schools but it also banned Bible reading in public schools.
The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.
Abraham Lincoln
Take a look at the way things are now! I'd say Mr. Lincoln hit the nail on the head.
Of course the great thing about our great nation is that you are free to believe whatever you want. And, you still have time to change your mind.
how silly,if you want a good cartoon to laugh at just go in ingles!!
oh here we go again somebody else spouting off about religion--listen i'll bet you you have never read the WHOLE bible!because if you have you will have a different out look on the book, its a book written to fit any condition and any agenda you wish how can anybody take a book seriousley that states in exodus 21-7 that its allright to sell your daughter!! or Exodus 35-2 that says anyone working on the sabath is to be put to death!! just read the WHOLE bible and not just the parts these babbling so called preachers tell you about!!the book is full of stuff they dont want you to read about
3:52...... Sounds like something Satan would say.....read the one where your going to hell to be with him.
Can someone paraphrase what 3:43 said?
3:43.... is what you typically would call an idiot. He doesnt know what to post, so he just writes what comes to mind. Evidently he lost his job bagging groceries at Ingles so he's getting back at them on the blog....woooowhee what a good one!
3:43,
Yet again I did the research on this which most people in Barnesville will not they will just grab it and go with it.
First off. These quotes came from a website wtv-zone.com It was written by someone named Marry but gave no last name or any time or place that this was said. I gave you letters and dates that you can check with the National Archives in Washington DC. So far no one can say were or if these quotes are real.
however Washington did say this
The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion”
or
There is nothing which can better deserve our patronage than the promotion of science and literature. Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of public happiness. [George Washington, address to Congress, 8 January, 1790]
or
Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. [George Washington, letter to Sir Edward Newenham, June 22, 1792]
or
...the path of true piety is so plain as to require but little political direction. [George Washington, 1789, responding to clergy complaints that the Constitution lacked mention of Jesus Christ, from The Godless Constitution: The Case Against Religious Correctness, Isacc Kramnick and R. Laurence Moore W.W. Norton and Company 101-102]
or
...I beg you be persuaded that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution. [George Washington, to United Baptists Churches of Virginia, May, 1789 from The Washington papers edited by Saul Padover]
Yet again I say to you don't give me things that can not be proven tell me exactly where this came from and I will listen.
If these quotes are true then I guess the politicians back then were just as big of hippocrates as they are now.
G mcall It seem you are dealing with some one far smarter that most people in this town. You should probably just give up now.
5:31 PM why are you afraid to put your name by something you feel so strongly about?
Second - I have no idea what " wtv-zone.com" is. These quotes were researched too.
Third - You live in a free country where you are allowed to believe what you want. I'm not going to try and persuade or change your thoughts. I'm only sharing my thoughts with you. It's your choice what you want to believe.
There's two sides to everything. You've said yours and I've said mine. What else is there. You don't have to appear to want and force change people's thoughts because someone contradicted your message. Just like you, they are free to accept what they want.
5:45, you are probably correct. I posted before I had the opportunity to read what you said. I'll take your advice now. Thanks.
gmc
I don't want to change peoples minds. I just want them to know truth. One of the most frustrating things for me in this town is that people believe what ever they read or that get forwarded to them. People just spout things that they can not back up.
I believe in freedom of religion. That being said if you allow one religion in to a school you allow it all. Would you be offended if you child came home and said that a child in the hall was praying towards Mecca.
I have the utmost respect for most Christians, I say most because I am sick of being told I'm going to hell and I am a heathen because I don't believe the exact same thing other people do.
As far as the Bible is concerned....God said it and that settles it. End of story. Got a problem? Take it up with my Lord and Savior.
He does not have a very good complaint line. When you call all you get are people who tell why your wrong but don't listen to a thing you say
Here's a link that explains it all.

A little comment about when Alonzo Taylor was the Chief of Police - during the times that he was "on duty" he was at home 'sleep' and would not answer his phone or the door.
Talk about HIJACKING A thread! Y'all need to learn some BLOG etiquette! Gary I'd have thought you would know better!
STAY ON TOPIC!
Its supposed to be about the cartoon and the author that used to live in Barnesville!
THIS topic has NOTHING to do with "statements against Christianity"
3:43B is the ONLY one who has stayed on topic!
Martha,
The topic had been put to bed by Walter. I put my comment in the next best place which happen to be the first topic to appear. While it's true it does't fit this topic, it was something I wanted to say in response to other comments. And for any and all purposes, God is welcome in any catagory in my opinion. However, I apologize if it ruffled your feathers though. If you would have noticed, it appeared the dialog on the subject was over after you made your comment.
Ahhh...well my apologies to all...perhaps going forward you could make reference to the topic that was closed.
Yes, Walter seems to enjoy taking down the ones that start getting interesting. I was wondering myself why he shut down the one about Judge Thomas. Although from what I saw no one had any real reason to bash either candidate other than sour grapes.
Usually, I don't mind when it goes off topic as there is a sort of sequay involved and it just evolves if you will excuse the term into a different topic. This just appeared to come out of thin air.
I was wondering about the cartoon guy!
Forgive my outburst, please. :D
Martha,
Please forgive the interruption of the topic once more.
To John W.,
I respect your freedoms. I have no idea what religion if any you have. I've given this some thought and I hope that you don't misunderstand but I feel I'm wrong if I don't offer.
I'd like to invite you to visit my church as my guest. It's in Warner Robins which is about an hour away. I know this is an odd and perhaps inappropriate way for an invitation, but it's the only way I can think of for this situation.
Thank you for your invite. I would love to except but currently I live over 700 miles away. And don't get me wrong I am a christian and do attend service on occasion. Any way thank you unfortunately distance will not let me.
Sounds like we have some internet love going on.
