What an irresponsible comment from the fire chief to say that if we had personnel at parker branch station we could have saved the house. maybe, maybe not, but is that not also true for every station in lamar county. if so then lets build a station on every road in lamar county and man it. how many house fires have we had this year? look at other places with stations with full time personnel. they lose houses to fires all the time. never have i turned on the news and seen a news person say thank goodness there was a fire station close by this house fire so they could put it out before damage was done. 5 minutes or 15 minutes fire is going to do enough major damage that cost / benefit does figure in to things. the fire dept. does a good job so don't worry about having to justify why you could not do more to save a structure.

Milner's needs to be staffed with fulltime fire fighters. That is where the people are and coming.

In a perfect world everyone would have enough staff. But face it, its not going to happen. Just look at the PD. Isn't the black arts festival this weekend. How many stabbings and shooting have there been in the last few weeks... Just think about what is going to happen this weekend. Its going to be a mess!

I'd pay more tax for fire, but then Gene and Royce would probably make sure the rural county got stuck with all of the bill and gave Barnesville a big tax break.

Right now barnesville is running around 40-50% of actual value on many or most houses. The county is mostly at 90% or more.

So whatever we do, the people in Barnesville will get a big break.

No more taxes, the county comm. would somehow give it to the city and appoint HA fire chief

12:10 where do you get this stuff? Are you just day dreaming? There are to many people in Lamar County that would fight that kind of change. Yes, I think it would be nice, I wouldn't have to drive out of town to get the things that I actually need. Gas is crazy but there are to many people here that don't want that kind of growth and traffic.

I was there within 5 - 6 minutes after dispatch. If we had personnel assigned to Station 6, we would have had a one room and contents fire. It would have been an easy stop. I do it all the time as a professional firefighter that runs 12 - 13 calls per day and ran somewhere around 40 house/apartment fires just last year. Your "cost / benefit" comment does not hold water. Yes, the house would have sustained major damage, however, the occupants would not have lost all their possessions and memories. The facts are that response times do influence outcomes. Whether it be fire or medical. Oh, I guess you forgot, we do respond to most medical calls as well. I guess you wouldn't mind waiting 20 minutes for help if you are having a heart attack or stroke. The county is growing and we need to grow the fire/rescue department with it. Look at all the other counties around us. They are moving forward. Lamar has to catch up or it will be disasterous.

You people are crazy our fire dept is great sure we could use a couple more full time fire fighters to man some of the stations but not only would we have to find those fire fighters we would also have to update some of the equipment and we really need to have something done about the living conditions at the grove st. station i I would not even let my dog live in there!

Lamar County has a great fire department. They just need an Chief and an Assistant Chief with some backbone. It seems as if they are scared to tell anyone what to do. In order to man all the station the county has to have enough money to pay them. They say they can't afford to pay anymore firefighters. We have a few fire stations that needs some work done to them, but they don't have they money to complete them. But unless you have ever been a fire fighter you have no right to be talking about the fire fighters we do have. Maybe if you think you can do a better job than the fire fighters we have then maybe you should go see the chief and join!!! God bless you.

We need a commission with a back bone to stand up and say let's do it. Otherwise we will have a commission who will ask what could we have done to prevent this from happening.
