They just don’t stand a chance.
That is the synapse that keeps firing through my brain.
It started as I watched the flag-draped coffin bearing the body of Master Sergeant Davy Weaver unloaded from a charter jet at Robins AFB May 28
.
It was a powerful moment.
Flight line operations at the sprawling base were brought to a halt. The solemnity was sublime - the respect palpable. The color guard was in place. An honor guard bore the coffin to a waiting hearse.
The silence was broken only by an occasional wail or sob or a barked command. The Patriot Guard Riders were there. I have a newfound respect for these volunteers who shield such services from those who would use them to advance their own whacked out agendas.
As the cortege made its way off the air base, military personnel and civilian workers from the vast expanse of buildings lined the roadways to pay last respects to a fallen hero.
It brought tears to my eyes.
On the way back to Barnesville, motorists pulled to the side of the road. Truckers blew the air horns on their big rigs to salute the fallen.
MSG Weaver was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 18. Shortly after the improvised explosive device tore through the vehicle he was in, shredding his body, a solder was assigned to his remains and stayed with them throughout his journey home. At the funeral home, a honor guard was present continuously.
MSG Weaver’s funeral was conducted with full military honors. At least three generals were there. Lilla Baptist Church has seating for about 140. I counted over 250 mourners crammed into the tiny church. The choir loft was filled with Weaver’s fellow soldiers in uniform.
Old warriors were there as well. Battered campaign hats and grizzled faces told of their battles - World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Bosnia. Their eyes told their stories and hinted they had seen such funerals before - too many of them.
Outside, a hundred or more additional mourners stifled under a tent in the heat. The 21-gun salute was fired into the late spring sky. A lone bugler in the tree line mournfully belted out Taps.
Tears once again filled by eyes.
Those who fought in World War II have been called this country’s greatest generation but those who fight for their country are the greatest of any generation. Sadly, some pay the ultimate price as did MSG Weaver. His family will never be the same.
This country took care of him until the end. It is now taking care of his family.
That is what defines American military might - the will to die for freedom at home and abroad.
Americans don’t wrap the simpleminded in explosives and send them to die with the false promise of 72 virgins.
American soldiers preserve freedom where ever they are sent. They fight honorably. They die with dignity.

Yes, that video is a fake.
It stemmed from a picture taken when everyone was looking the wrong way for a few moments.
It's very common today with all the video editing and photoshop programs to make almost anything.
One dead giveaway is the quality of the video and sound. It is difficult to make one that looks high quality, but it is easy to make a fake with low resolution.
All these chain e-mails and heavily edited U-tube videos don't mean a thing.

We have to understand what went wrong in order to know what to do now. All this silly crap about flags and Muslims and taxes have nothing to do with where we are at today.
If we all took a deep breath and look at what really happened, we will see the goverenment has terribly mismanaged the economy ever since Carter. Clinton and Bush just made things much worse in a short time.
The real straws that broke the camel's back were deregulating the loan industy, bad trade deals, and not controlling the investment market. The Iraq war hasn't helped, but by itself it wouldn't have been a problem IF we taxed enough to pay for it. We should never borrow money from China or anyone else to fund a war, we should pay as we go.
The housing market crashed because Bush and Clinton wanted to turn loans loose to everyone. People who should have been driving small cars and living in small houses were allowed to go upside down on loans or secure loans they could never pay back.
The trade deals suck because we trade with countries that are much poorer than us so they sell us far more than they buy from us, we don't enforce a level playing field on wages or pollution, and we reward our businesses for going off shore. When the jobs go away, people can't spend money. Look at what happened with Carters.
The housing market crashed because Bush (and Clinton to a lesser extent)wanted to get every poor person into a big house with a new car on credit. Bush let the loan industry do all these upside down no collateral loans. It's not just houses, it's cars and everything else.
All these things make the economy really good at first because people are spending like crazy even though they should never be buying what they are. Eventually thing would have collapsed. That's the only reason Clinton had a good economy.
Bush just tried to do more of what Clinton did and the wheels fell off sooner.
If we look at this honestly and objectively, neither McCain or Obama are going to fix the economy. McCain wants more of what Bush and Clinton did. Obama wants to take it off in another direction that still won't stop the collapse, but it might be a bit softer ride to the bottom.
What has to happen is all the people unable to afford the big houses and cars are just going to have to lose them. They will have to move back to small houses and get cheap old cars. We have to get some manufacturing jobs back that are OWNED by Americans, grow our own food, tax enough to pay for what the Governement nneds to spend, and stop loaning people so much money. If we can't pay for Iraq we need to leave. If we can't pay for Social Security or Medicade our old people who don't have families that will help will need to go back to work or die.
We are in this mess because the politicians think they can give big tax breaks to the rich, that we shouldn't regulate investments or speculation, that we can trade evenly with people making $1 hour that can just dump pollution into the air and water, and that every American (even those with pissy $15 hour jobs) can afford a big new four bedrooom house and new 18 MPG SUV. It's the same mindset that made no child left behind a disaster.
The problem is the guys on the radio like Rush, the people that own or manage the media, and the people that run for office are depending on us being stupid. They want us fighting so they can do something that screws us even more, like a national sales tax. That's great for someone making $250K a year or on welfare, but it will screw the middle class bad.
I hope we all stop wasting time with this silly nonsense about Muslims and crap and get our own house in order. Right now all a terrorist has to do is blow up one key pipeline and we are screwed.
The Republicans AND Democrats and our stupidity put us in this position and we don't have a potential leader that will get us out. One will drag us even deeper faster and the other will drag us off sideways.

It is not the job of the gov. to regulate investment. Any American owned company that wants its business placed over seas is fine by me- its their business not yours, mine or the government's. Bush nor Clinton pressed anyone into a bad loan, only those banks or bankers that purposely deceived their clients should be punished- stupidity should not qualify you for exemption from your contract. A national sales tax is being used the world over. We grow a lot of our own food but now we make fuel out of it that's being subsidized by the gov. We can't trade evenly with all the taxes we pour into every product made inside the US. Rush does a better job than the nightly news and the hatred for talk radio will only lead to suppression of free speech- but what would you care, it's all hate talk right! Debunked Insight Magazine and Fox News Smear Campaign
In the past week, many of you have read a now thoroughly-debunked story by Insight Magazine, owned by the Washington Times, which cites unnamed sources close to a political campaign that claim Senator Obama was enrolled for “at least four years” in an Indonesian “Madrassa”. The article says the “sources” believe the Madrassa was “espousing Wahhabism,” a form of radical Islam.
Insight Magazine published these allegations without a single named source, and without doing any independent reporting to confirm or deny the allegations. Fox News quickly parroted the charges, and Fox and Friends host Steve Doocy went so far as to ask, “Why didn’t anybody ever mention that that man right there was raised — spent the first decade of his life, raised by his Muslim father — as a Muslim and was educated in a Madrassa?”
All of the claims about Senator Obama raised in the Insight Magazine piece were thoroughly debunked by CNN, which, instead of relying on unnamed sources, sent a reporter to Obama’s former school in Jakarta to check the facts.

If Doocy or the staff at Fox and Friends had taken the time to check their facts, or simply made a call to his office, they would have learned that Senator Obama was not educated in a Madrassa, was not raised as a Muslim, and was not raised by his father – an atheist Obama met once in his life before he died.
Later in the day, Fox News host John Gibson again discussed the Insight Magazine story without any attempt to independently confirm the charges.
All of the claims about Senator Obama’s faith and education raised in the Insight Magazine story and repeated on Fox News are false. Senator Obama was raised in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother. Obama’s stepfather worked for a U.S. oil company, and sent his stepson to two years of Catholic school, as well as two years of public school. As Obama described it, “Without the money to go to the international school that most expatriate children attended, I went to local Indonesian schools and ran the streets with the children of farmers, servants, tailors, and clerks.” [The Audacity of Hope, p. 274]
To be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ in Chicago. Furthermore, the Indonesian school Obama attended in Jakarta is a public school that is not and never has been a Madrassa.
These malicious, irresponsible charges are precisely the kind of politics the American people have grown tired of, and that Senator Obama is trying to change by focusing on bringing people together to solve our common problems.
