This President and no president before him has ever set the price of gas. 72% of the price of gas is base on the cost of crude. The price of crude is set supply and demand and the stock market. Don't blame the President for something he has no control over.

If you want to do something about gas prices, first sell your gas guzzler and then get Congress to tell the environmental wackos to take a hike and start drilling in the artic and off-shore and allow building of new refineries.
The problem with drilling in the Artic & building new refineries is that both would take close to a decade to have any impact on supply. Additionally, to build a new refinery, you need a location which is reasonably far from residential areas and near navigable waterways for oil delivery. I'm not sure how much oceanfront land is not near residential areas anymore.
and until we become independent of oil???????? the reason why we use oil every day is because there is no suitable alternative. the supply side or the demand side must be effected- supply up/demand down- for a difference to be seen at the pump. let the prez. freeze the price and you will be faced with rationing and inflation. don't listen to the mumbo jumbo of the politicians and their plan to confiscate the well deserved profit from oil companies. this is all hoopla and will only backfire in our face if caps are placed on these companies.

Rapid interurban rail does virtually nothing to increase problems like this because lazy slugs who steal and return home never leave their home city for half hopur rides past all the prime pickings and safe return on rapid transit. They're too lazy and cheap and the ride from urban area to urban area, unlike a quick jump from local staion to local station, is unsafe for transporting stolen goods.
You'd be much better off encouraging your friends and neighbors to stop drinking, abusing their wives, beating their kids, doing drugs, sticking kids in front of a TV set for a babysitter, and pissing off the porch than you would stopping mass transit from urban area to urban area.

the Metra rail in Chicago is one of the best trains around, It goes from the suburbs of Chi-town for about 150 miles in each direction. Its cheap, it's clean, and there is no traffic.
