It's qualifying time for local election and I'm thankful Mr. Hardwick has opposition, How many have qualified for sheriff? Who is running for tax commishner this term? Inquiring minds want to know.

Can't wait till BBQ and Blues Festival !!!! I have a bunch of friends coming in from out of town, what a great way to show off Barnesville.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me while I get excited. Okay, I'm excited. Yahoo!!!

Anonymous said...

There are a couple of teams from B'ville entered with the "Big guns" of BBQ!! I hope they show 'em how BBQ is supposed to be cooked (Not like the resturants we have here in town!)

Where are the police when all the open container laws are being broken during these festivals in Barnesville?

Anonymous said...

I was thinking that finally we were having a positive post. All towns waive the open container laws for special events. It is nothing out of the ordinary. Of course, I guess all towns have their prudes also.

Anonymous said...

Name the towns that waive the opem container law during special events. I don't believe that's true.

Anonymous said...

i've never been to the bbq blues festival. is it worth the trip?

Anonymous said...

Are the open container laws waived for the entire city or just the special few attending the festival? What about the DUI laws? What about open container while driving a car or golf cart? I would like to know what I can or cannot do while visiting Barnesville. Can I just come to town and ride around and drink? Sounds like a fun town. Who makes the decision to waive laws in Barnesville?

Anonymous said...

Look like Barnesville Buggy Days

Anonymous said...

What you can or can't do in Barnesville depends on where you are in the pecking order. You see, the rules are different for different people. You can get away with all kinds of crime if you're in the right group. If you're in the wrong group they will hang you at dawn for spitting on the sidewalk. It's all a power thing......for now.

^^^^^Not elite!

EMS, Firefighters, Ranger, Georgia State Patrol, Police and Sheriff. You know...

Anonymous said...

Yeah that right. I saw it... Fire/Rescue Cart, EMS Cart, Police Cart, Sheriff ATV, and Police bike team.

Anonymous said...

If I were apart of any agency that had to work any event in this town, I would be hoping that the events would be cancelled. The crap they must have to put up with....

Anonymous said...

Most of the people that bitch are the ones who do nothing. They just assume that these festivals happen on there own. If it wasn't for the few doers in this town, nothing would ever happen.
As far as the open container, if you keep it sort of consealed around the festival and don't act like an idiot, most of the time you will be fine.

Anonymous said...

Well I for one am greatful to those people who give their time to make this town a better place. I also appreciate the Chamber for putting on BBQ and Buggy Days festival. I have helped out before and I know how much of there personal time is involved. For those who always complain, get active and make you point in the orginzations rather than complaining behide your computer.

iplan on driving around barnesville during the party. if you see me say hello. i will be selling autographed pictures. 10 bux if you are in it wirh me an 5 bux fir me alone

Anonymous said...

ok, come on back, the BBQ and Blues will come and go, the same politicians will still be here, let's talk, rumor has it that one of the long term officials has said she is not running

Anonymous said...

I have never actually seen anyone walking or riding around with a beer can or a bottle of liquor right out in the open.

If you behave yoursrlf you can get away with a beer or drink in a cup. I don't think anyone will walk up and ask to taste your drink or smell your breath.

Its nice B'ville, the COUNTY seat , has something to bring in revenue to actually benefit the folks with businesses and such.

I don't see any of the money coming in from the sheriffs dept, the other outside revenue, actually benefitting those folks.

I am still wondering about the use of the cherry picker? How will that be used to benefit the business owners in B'ville?

Also, how many patrol cars does the LCSO need?

Anonymous said...

Interesting, if you have ever been a competitor in a bbq comp you know they tell you in the cooks meeting "pour your adult beverage into a red cup dont walk around with the labels showing."

Anonymous said...

Everyone please bring your kids and lets teach them how to break the law early in life.

Anonymous said...

Who has the authority to waive these laws?

Anonymous said...

quit freaking worring about it! sit back and enjoy a good butt plug or something

Anonymous said...

The authorities, hence the name.

Who has the authority to tell us we can't have an open beer on the streets? Or we can't buy beer on Sundays?

Anonymous said...

The Police dumba$$

Anonymous said...

Where do the police get the authority? They don't write the laws.

And name calling is such a sophomoric act.

Anonymous said...

4 patrol, 2 EMS, 12 firefighters, 2 sheriff, and 9 police.

Don't need that beer or wine. No, not New Orleans. You know FAMILY. Just eat some BBQ and drink and music tonight and family fun night and kid's park and cooking and apparatus and classic car show.

Police have "officer discretion"! That means they can look over any law that they want unless it's a felony. No one is saying that you can run around acting like a fool with a open container. It's just doubtful that the police will go out of their way to look for these things. If you put it in a cup and act right you should be fine. Just please be responsible with it and dont get yourself in trouble. I look forward to seeing you there..

More golf cart fun...

This time one of the infernal things was spotted traveling on Hwy 18 (speed limit-55 mph).

Just a matter of time before the first fatality happens.

Anonymous said...

Agreed! We need to get these Golf carts off the streets!

Anonymous said...

How many of you are buying into the property tax reduction scam?

Oldest trick in the book for local governments. Raise property value assessments, but ease the public's mind with a lower millage rate. In a few years, our rate will be restated because it is much lower and not comparable than surrounding areas. Then you have a higher rate with a higher property value. End result...bend over. Wake up people. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes. This may take a longer attention span than the average American's, but it will happen

Anonymous said...

How old do you have to be to drive a golf cart in Barnesville? Have seen some very small kids driving them around on sidewalks in town. How old do you have to be to have an open container at a festival?

Anonymous said...

Oh, there's no age requirement as long as you're one of us.

If you're not, then you probably can't afford a golf cart anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

Anonymous said...

16 years old or older

Anonymous said...

"one of us"

What is "us"...? Folks that need to pick out the coffin they will rest in?

"us" needs to get some insurance to operate on the street, a driver's license would be nice as well. Long as we at it, a tag would be a good idea as well. Allowing children to mix it up with motor vehicles on the street is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

"us" should pick out the coffin for themselves, cuz they gonna lose big time in a tie with a car/truck.

Anonymous said...

Watch out for the little darling from Murphy Av, he will pull out in front of you. Golf carts usage should be strictly enforced for everyone's safety.

Anonymous said...

You are right. Sooner or later someone will get hurt or killed on a golf cart, or they will cause an accident and NOT HAVE INSURANCE.

It is idiotic to run a motorized cart around on streets without license plates, insurance, and control of who is driving.

There is some kid on a green golfcart running around town who sometimes puts the thing up on two wheels cornering and who pulls out in front of cars all the time. He drives like an idiot.

All that would go away if there was a license number and if he did cause an accident, which he someday will do, he had insurance.

It will take someone getting seriously hurt or someone getting screwed out of money from damages caused by operation of a golf cart before something is done. Common sense or wisdom will never be applied until after someone is hurt or killed.

Anonymous said...

Get over the golf carts already. You can say the same thing about some of the idiots driving cars around here. I think once a person turns a certain age their drivers license should be pulled because they are a danger to everyone. What about the kids on bikes and skateboards? One almost plowed into me the other day but they cant outlaw bikes. Find something else to cry about please.

Anonymous said...

You fool. People who drive cars and other vehicles on the highway have to have car tags, licenses, and insurance. They have to meet some standards of safety. We can't run off-road 4 wheelers or motorcyles on the streets without tags. It doesn't make any sense at all to allow a motorized vehicle on the streets with trucks and cars without some effort at assuring they are responsible for any problems.

Someday someone will wind up brain damaged or dead and the horses behind parents who allowed their kids to drive around will get sued and the people who got hurt won't be compensated.

Its a really bad situation that only fools would let go on.

I hope your dad sees your post and whips your little booty. You should learn how to get your point across without the foul language. That way you wont look like a fool.

kid on the golf cart said...

okay i really dont care cause you need to mind your own business and stop talkin about little kids drivin the golf carts it just shows you have nothing else better to do

Anonymous said...

Golf carts are a fun, safe and relaxing way to navigate around the city and a lot more of "US" have full coverage insurance on our carts than the narrow minded would think, and as a cart owner I do agree that there are a few idiots out there that are giving "US" a bad name. I hope that the few bad apples don't screw it up for the sensible majority of cart owners of all ages.

kid on the golf cart said...

so im assuming you have a golf cart?

kid on the golf cart said...

so your saying you dont think i have full coverage on my golf cart but my daddy knows how to raise a son he keeps me inline just fine so you dont have to worry about it

Anonymous said...

really? could have fooled me!

kid on the golf cart said...

about my daddy or the fool coverage thing cause you dont know who i am so how would you even know

Anonymous said...

Please let me say that this is a big deal; because I happen to know these young people, I can attest to the fact that they are being irresponsible (as they are in other situations). I am concerned because sometimes teenagers can be wreckless. They are, after all, teenagers. As for daddy keeping you in-line, please remember that he also taught you to be respectful. Don't forget it.

Anonymous said...

I think the kid on the golf cart has it right for once, he needs "FOOL" coverage.
