'My Baby Daddy Was Shot' In Struggle With Police

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- College Park police say a man has been shot to death after a struggle with an officer.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office identifies the man killed as Antoine Cantrell.
Police Chief Gary Yandura says officers responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Thursday about a 28-year-old man who was causing a disturbance.
He says officers spotted the suspect about 20 minutes later and an officer chased the man into woods near a recreation center.
The chief released a statement saying the man began struggling with the officer over his gun and the officer's gun discharged, killing the suspect. The chief says two other College Park officers were in the immediate area at the time.
"My baby-daddy, Antoine Cantrell, was shot," Canrell's girlfriend, Trellis Varner told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter Amanda Rosseter. "We just want to know why, cause they're not telling us nothing. They're not telling us why, what happened, why they shoot him, cause he don't carry no gun. He's not that type of person. All he did was run."
Cantrell's family members said he always ran from College Park police.
"It's an ongoing thing between him and the College Park Police Department," said Canrell's brother, Ainsley Jackson. "Everytime they catch him, they jump on him."
"The suspect had an extensive record within our department," said the College Park police chief in a statement he gave to WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News.
Fulton County Jail records show Forest Park police arrested Cantrell in October on drug and trespass charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting College Park police in the investigation into the shooting.

As I said before, I don't look down on "non-white" people. Just those who abuse the system. That includes whites. There is nothing racial about my point of view.
if the blacks had had the same oppurtunity as whites, then why was it necessary to past an equal oppurtunity employer bill, why was in necessary in the past to have busing, why is it necessary to have charter schools......you know, even if you wont admit it that blacks and other minorities have more difficut times getting the good jobs, getting in the better schools, getting the recognition they deserve......we have come along way here in the u.s., but there is a great distance to go.....and those who dont admit that the gap is there, is either out of the loop or in denial......
In 2008 what opportunities don't they have. You are living in the past. They have had all of those things for years and still some CHOOSE not to take advantage. Not because they cant but because they wont. They have more advantages they anyone. In today's world it is better to be black. You are more likely to get college grants, to be picked for a job... whether qualified or not. Standards and qualifications have been lowered beyond belief. The list could go on and on.

Parents can put their kids in just about any school they want to. Vouchers have been in place for that if the school is not up to par. But I still dont get your point. My kids go to public school. Always have.....Does that mean I am poor?
my point is 1)are privite schools better educators than public schools.....if not, why are so many white kids going to privite schools....2) if privite schools are better, then the poor and the blacks are being disadvantaged......i believe in the public system....and believe if all kids had to go to public schools, then any problems would be resolved immediately..................just like if all government employees and elected officals had to get their own personal individual insurance policy,,,,then we would see legislation for national health care this year........in both cases it proves that people dont complain and dont act against a problem that doesnt affect them.........
Could it be that more white families choose to work their butts off to provide for their kids. Are white people to blame for choosing to go to college? this article shows the flaws in the schools of the south....we need to upgrade the schools......pay teachers more....increase math, english, and reading skills.....there is no reason that every american cant complete high school.....we should accept no less......some northern states have started paying the poor students to entice them to study harder and stay in school.....this payment will pay big dividends......
the problem is all the parents. fathers who are never home and who set bad examples by acting like thugs or talking trash and who dont think school is a priority. parents who arent involved in kids education are the big problem and it isnt just blacks.

Look all of you. I used to live and I still work in college park at a very high end prep school. The man who was shot was nothing but a tyrant. He had been removed from my campus just last year for walking though buildings and staring though class room windows. He was caught and arrested after we locked down the campus. He was in no way a good person. He has terrorised the people of college park and was a general nuisance. I'm glad he is dead, its better for society that he his. I hope it truly was an accident, but either way I'm glad that he is gone.

If GOVERNMENT Schools pick up the educational pace they would find themselves with higher enrollment and Private Schools with lower. A "Free" education that is also a top notch education would be an excellent choice when compared to taxes on our "Free" education plus tuition in a local Private School.
These schools will never compare to Private because of the underlying problem of GOVERNMENT CONTROL.
Give parents a choice- VOUCHER PROGRAMS!!!!!

817 is a product of Public Schooling. Please let me know what the terrible consequences are for allowing parents to pick the best school for THIER child. The Government's control over education has produced millions of Industrial Workers, this was the plan and it has worked well. Children are graduating from Public School's all across America this year almost always at a lower graduating rate compared to Private Schools. Some will go to college, most to work, and that's fine. The problem is how lost the vast majority of government educated kids are at the beginning of their college experience. Voucher Programs can help educate the children with goals of higher education and help the technical kids find a profession they can excel at. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

The books and articles I've read have proven to me that answers come from private enterprise seeking profit by meeting a needed demand. Every time you think about Government and "Problem Solving" remember that UPS exists because of the GOVERNMENT'S FAILURE TO MEET THE PUBLICS DEMAND! Money has increased way higher than inflation to the Government school systems since the 70's (from what I remember) but, the quality of education has remained the same or has even worsened. Competition increases quality and productivity.

if all the rich influential and powerful parents send their kids to private schools, then you have several problems.....if there is a problem with the public school, the powerful people will be silent because it doesnt mean anything to them.....also their kids grow up in this vaccum not knowing any kids that are diffent from them....also, the kids from the better families try harder and make better grades, so you are subtracting them from the test scores of the public schools......i still think is everyone goes to public school and there arises a problem, then it will be fixed quickly......bottom line is everyone should have same schooling and same healthcare.....that is not socialism, i didnt say everyone needs to have same car, same house, or same salary

I am black and my children go to a private school. Both of my kids make good grades and are treated just like the white kids. I dont want my children going to school with common street trash so I chose MA. I think I should have the option to send MY children where ever I want.
