Captain WHO public WHAT? HAHA!!

Anonymous said...

why didnt they catch him

Anonymous said...

cause its the SO looking for the guy instead of the city

Anonymous said...

Stop with that stupid stuff.

Looking for a person in a woods in rural country without immediate access to search dogs or air support or an unlimited staff is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

We all know that.

On the other hand the people of Lamar county can't stop the thieves on the Ag Authority who gave millions of dollars of county assets to the city of Barnesville.

Why bitch about a person who only steals a car worth a few thousand bucks when the great people serving the county steal taxpayer money and get away with it over and over again??

our future in barnesville is only going to get worse. i have been telling everyone that with growth comes all this crime. just wait about another 5 years barnesville, lamar county won't be reconizable. i'm so happy all these outsiders that are so smart moved to our quiet little town and ruined it

"without search dogs and air support".....you have got to be joking. The guy was on foot. My question would be why they didn't call for assistance from other agencies? That would have provided the extra hands that you say are lacking.

"stupid is as stupid does" and it shows

Anonymous said...

9:28 you gotta be kidding me. i hope you don't call a new drug store and a couple of fast food stops growth. barnesville ain't growing very fast at all, and by the time it grows to any size at you will be dead. we need some growth or else we be taxed to death.

Anonymous said...

I hate to tell you this but most of the problems you have are not because of growth or outsiders.
We have a huge social problem that is being fed by multiple sources, so it isn't any one single thing.

Crime in this county is from (in order of descending numbers)local long term residents, Griffin area thugs who drive into the county, or travelers from the interstate. You only need to look at the names to see that that is true.

Crime in rural areas is increasing because rural areas are now becoming the new America ghetto.

The lack of reasonable paying jobs (thanks to free trade agreements) and parents sticking kids in front of a TV or not parenting are also major problems. Not parenting includes daily drinkers who love their drinks more than their families, not just druggies.

Meth and/ or any addicting drug, including alcoholic drinks, is at the root of many crimes. We better get working on the parents and on getting some jobs and teaching kids and parents to work and also to spend quality time together....not just bitch at the kids sessions.

We are getting to be in sad shape and it is multiple causes, but not growth. Rural areas are now the new poor ghettos. Look at Carters and the rest and see what NAFTA and other agreements have done to use. Wait til the Chinese run off with all our remaining money.

Anonymous said...

with all the republicans in power, you would think crime would be getting better....maybe we should try democracts and maybe gun control.....

Anonymous said...

If people didn't own guns there would be more crime. That may sound stupid but look at the incident that happened last week where the guys tried to rob the guy in the car.....too bad they didn't know he was a cop and had his own gun...now you have one more dead thug. People have to have protection. Its better that everyone can own a gun and not just the criminals.

liberleft said...

you arent really saying it is a good thing that the robber was killed, are you?......besides, if there was gun control, the cop would still had the gun.....i just dont think every car should have a gun......and i bet there are 5 families in illinois that wishes the gunman at NIU hadnt been able to purchase those guns he used to shoot the students....the current laws arent working, lets try something different....

Anonymous said...

Yes I am saying its a good thing he got killed. Do you think he wouldn't have killed the cop? He had a shotgun. I'm sure you feel sorry for him though. I'm sure it he was just a product of his upbringing that is everyone else's fault. I know that's how you think. Criminals are going to get guns. Whether they buy them, steal them or get them off the black market. They will find away. No amount of gun control laws will matter.

I have a gun in my car. Doesn't mean I will just use it randomly. But then again I'm not a criminal.

All these people do is repeat the same old bullcrap the politicians and lobbyists who give them money dish out.

Don't ask anyone to apply logic or step back and look at the results objectively.

Here's an actual report:

http://www.ojp.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/guic.pdf

About 1/3 of violent crimes like rape, assult, or robbery involved a gun. 70% of murders.

Over 1/4 million guns are stolen each year and the number is increasing.

It's a few thousand times more likely they will use the gun in a crime than to stop a crime.

Anyone with any amount of common sense would understand the more hand guns that circulate the more likely we are to get shot, not less likely.

Anonymous said...

I don't agree. How many of the victims of those crimes carried a gun or some other form of protection?

Anonymous said...

Do you really believe that if guns were prohibited or outlawed that it would stop criminals from getting them?

Anonymous said...

It doesn't matter what you think or if you agree. Statistics are what they are.

About 1/3 of serious crimes involve a handgun, over 1/4 million guns are stolen each year, and a gun is thousands of times more likely to be used in a crime rather than stopping a crime.

If we want to reduce the number of handguns used by criminals or reduce serious crimes we need more police and better rules about handling and selling guns, not more people with guns and fewer rules.

Just like our economy, apply some common sense. When we send jobs offshore by importing without an import duty, we get poorer. We shift money from here to overseas.

When we are poorer we can't afford to buy as much.

The solution should never have been to deregulate loans so more people could buy things they can't afford. The fix for our economy should never be to loan people more money (via a tax rebate) so they can send more money offshore.

You listen to that crap from Washington, the NRA, and every other self-serving group and it just keeps us in the same old cycle. take some time to apply common sense. If it smells like Bovine waste it probably is Bovine waste.

People can have sports or recreation guns. We just need to be sure that's what they are and they keep them secure. We don't need some angry white drunk driving around town with a pistol under his seat waiting to be Clint Eastwood.

Anonymous said...

Guess its ok for the cracked of black guy to be driving around with his gun? You need to take your own advice and use a little common sense. It wont work.

liberleft said...

if we are not going to ban guns, then lets place a huge tax on the ammo.....if it cost 10 to 20 dollars to fire one shell then maybe, just maybe we could cut some of the useless deaths.....and the good old boys could still sit around and look at their collection of guns that they are so proud of......

11:41 AM take your gun control and shove it you commie. Try to punish those that commit crimes instead of kissing there butt. You liberals never cease to astonish me.

Anonymous said...

4:13 liberleft your a f---ing idiot to.

Anonymous said...

You miss the facts. The facts are most handguns used in crimes are stolen, to the tune of nearly 1/4 million guns a year. That says nothing about the guns that are bought and intentionally sold into the thugs hands.

Nobody wants to stop all you people fascinated with firearms from being able to won one, but a good many people buy guns and then don't secure them. Other buy guns and sell them to the gangs. Other people just shouldn't have one, they have anger issues and poor judgement. The kid who shot the crane is one example of a little redneck idiot. His family should not be allowed to have any sort of firearms.

The solution to the problem isn't distributing more guns. It's more control and the assignment of responsibility when someone buys a firearm that is the type that causes problems.

Someplace between the extremes is a rational logical way to improve the situation. The statistics speak volumes about the problem and how it occurs. People should think about how to fix it with some common sense. Only a flaming idiot would think arming every person with a pistol or having uncontrolled access is a solution to too many pistols.

Arming the world is as dumb as giving $600 to everyone, including illegal aliens, because they are in a credit crunch from spending too much money for Chinese crap at WalMart or buying houses they cannot afford.

How do you turn a law abiding citizen into a criminal?

Try and take their guns.

You think ther was a war in the 1800s? Not like the one that will happen when you liberals try to turn liberty into communism.

let's not forget the college kids that we have in town some of them are theives also. They go around the city and county stealing stuff from local citizens and when they are caught they go crying to mama and daddy who get them off the hook and the locals are still left with nothing.

Liberals ALWAYS try to put the blame somewhere! They cry "we cant have guns" or "Charge them $20 a bullet" ... here's a thought... TOUCH MY STUFF YOU DIE! No Trial, No liberals telling us we need to "Shelter and educate them" no burden on society, just mind your own life and I'll mind mine. Problem solved!

you will mind your own life, but only if the government maintains the roads, the utlities, the fire protection, the ems , regulate the zoning, certify our drugs, inspect our food sources, fight our wars, regulate the flow of our oil, buy our excess crops, insure the coastal areas homes, inspect our building, teach our children, inspect goods from overseas, keep our airlines safe, and etc.........we want the government to do all these things but heaven forbid that the government control firearms or try to provide healthcare benefits.....get real

WE DIDN'T HAVE ALL THESE PROBLEMS UNTIL GOVERNMENT STARTED STICKING THEIR NOSE INTO EVERYONE'S LIVES.

Some city's up north have passed a law that requires all residece of that county to have at least on gun in there home.In almost all of those countys crime dropped by over half. The only problem with this system is crime always doubled in the next town over (that did not have this law). Gun control only hurts honest people.

I have been trying to find some of these cities. I remember learning about theses laws when I was majoring criminal justice in college. At one time I could have told you the names of at least a few of these cities and I have been going though a few of my notes trying to find them again.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:00, I have also heard of that law.

Anon 9:28,
You wanted facts, here are some. The website is www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp.

* Americans use firearms to defend themselves from criminals at least 764,000 times a year. This figure is the lowest among a group of 9 nationwide surveys done by organizations including Gallup and the Los Angeles Times. (16b)

* In 1982, a survey of imprisoned criminals found that 34% of them had been "scared off, shot at, wounded or captured by an armed victim." (16c)

* Washington D.C. enacted a virtual ban on handguns in 1976. Between 1976 and 1991, Washington D.C.'s homicide rate rose 200%, while the U.S. rate rose 12%. (1)

* Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. Between 1987 and 1996, these changes occurred:
Homicide: Fl -36% USA -0.4%
Firearm Hom: Fl -37% USA +15%
Handgun Hom: Fl -41% USA +24%
*This shows the homicide rate dramatically decreasing in Florida after adopting this law.

Gary, Kleck and Marc Gertz, Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense with a Gun - "By this time there seems little legitimate scholarly reason to doubt that defensive gun use is very common in the U.S., and that it probably is substantially more common than criminal gun use. This should not come as a surprise, given that there are far more gun-owning crime victims than there are gun-owning criminals."

I wonder how many crimes never took place because the perp new that the potential victim owned a gun!
We have had a "war on drugs" for years, yet a 12yr old can still buy drugs on any street corner. The war on drugs has proved to be so ineffective that people are actually suggesting that we legalize drugs.A gun ban will work the same way.Only criminals will own guns and crime will go through the roof.

I just read that vehicular assault is on the rise, maybe we should ban all cars. I bet none of you are willing to do that. Do you know why this is? Its because you use your car, but you are not part of the 49% of Americans who hunt and/or target shoot. If you are not willing to give up a potentially dangerous machine of yours then dont ask me to give up mine. Ask yourself how many people you know who have died in a car accident and then compare that number to how many people you know who have been shot to death.

I wish that girl in north GA. would have had a gun. Her attacker only had a knife and a "ASP". If she would have had a gun she would still be alive and her attacker would be in jail. To bad more people dont have a right to cary license.

Wow... ask and you shall receive eh 9:28?

Thanks for the info people, I didnt write that post but it sure does open up some thoughts. My first thought is "why do LEFTIES have a problem with facts?" then it hit me.... They (liberal media) wants us to be discouraged and report only what they FEEL is news (Dan Rather are you listening?)

Hmmm..... Facts are facts lefties own a gun, crime goes down. Take away guns crime goes up!

I would like a LEFTY to tell me why they still want guns gone? Any takers?

Anonymous said...

maybe the lefties are the criminals and they want to make life a little easier.

Anonymous said...

let me get this straight....you rednecks want the government to stay out of your life.....but it is ok for them to require guns....not ok for them to ban guns......ok for government to build roads and let people use it free....not ok for government to build hospital and let people use it free.....ok for government to provide fire and police protection....not ok for government to provide healthcare.....ok for goverment to pay for teachers....not ok for government to pay for doctors.....ok to pay for soldiers....not ok to for dentists........we got a real problem , right here in river city

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:14
I never said that I think it's ok for the government to require someone to own a gun. I actually disagree with that. All I was saying is that some counties have tried it and it reduced crime.

Roads are not free, they are
built with tax money.

I dont care if the government provides teacher's or not. I would never send my kids to a public school.

Why would you call me a redneck? Is it just because I believe in keeping our second amendment? I think you are just mad because I proved that a gun ban will not work. Do you always resort to name calling when you are proved wrong?

The following are some interesting gun control facts we’ve culled from Gun Facts 4.1, by Guy Smith:

Thirty five states (and the majority of the American population) live in “right-to-carry” states, and in each the crime rate fell (or did not rise) after the law became active (as of July, 2006)
When citizens are allowed to carry concealed weapons: Murder rates drop 8%, Rape rates fall 5%, Aggravated assaults drop 7%
77% of all violent crime occurs in public places. This makes concealed carry necessary for almost all self-defense needs. But due to onerous laws forbidding concealed carry, only 26.8% of defensive gun uses occurred away from home
Though the number of firearms owned by private citizens has been increasing steadily since 1970, the overall rate of homicides and suicides has not risen… there is no correlation between the availability of firearms, the homicide rate, or the suicide rate in America
Schoolyard shootings have been occurring since at least 1974, so it is not a new phenomenon due to increases in gun ownership
“Acquaintance” murders are primarily drug buyers killing drug pushers, cabdrivers killed by “customers”, gang members killing other gang members, prostitutes killed by their johns, and so on.96 71% of “victims” have prior criminal records
In states without “right to carry” laws, there have been 15 school shootings. In states that allow citizens to carry guns, there has been only one

Since Australia's gun ban, armed robberies increase 45%

Since Australia banned private ownership of most guns in 1996, crime has risen dramatically on that continent, prompting critics of U.S. gun control efforts to issue new warnings of what life in America could be like if Congress ever bans firearms.
After Australian lawmakers passed widespread gun bans, owners were forced to surrender about 650,000 weapons, which were later slated for destruction, according to statistics from the Australian Sporting Shooters Association.

The bans were not limited to so-called "assault" weapons or military-type firearms, but also to .22 rifles and shotguns. The effort cost the Australian government about $500 million, said association representative Keith Tidswell.

Though lawmakers responsible for passing the ban promised a safer country, the nation's crime statistics tell a different story:

Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;

Assaults are up 8.6 percent;

Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;

In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent;

In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily;

There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

At the time of the ban, which followed an April 29, 1996 shooting at a Port Arthur tourist spot by lone gunman Martin Bryant, the continent had an annual murder-by-firearm rate of about 1.8 per 100,000 persons, "a safe society by any standards," said Tidswell. But such low rates of crime and rare shootings did not deter then-Prime Minister John Howard from calling for and supporting the weapons ban.
Since the ban has been in effect, membership in the Australian Sporting Shooters Association has climbed to about 112,000 -- a 200 percent increase.

But how is this possible??? Liberleft promised that crime would go down with a gun ban!

UK Gun Crimes Soar After Gun Ban

Gun crimes in England have almost doubled since 1997, when a ban on firearms began.

According to the Sunday Times of London, crimes in which guns were used numbered 4,671 in 2005-06.

Anonymous said...

A gun ban always increased crime for every country that has had one. Why would anyone actually believe that it will be any different for the u.s.?

Anon 9:28
You said it yourself, "statistics are what they are". The fact is we need more honest Americans armed with a gun. You also said "It's a few thousand times more likely they will use the gun in a crime than to stop a crime".According to Anon 4:47 post (and several statistics that I have found on my own) you have your facts backwards. It is actually more likely that a gun will be used to stop a crime. This is because there are more honest Americans than criminals.

Im not saying that we should allow convicted felons to have a gun. But you cant argue with the facts..... If you take guns away from the honest people crime will go up. Other countrys have proved this for us.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue of the U.S. involvement in

Iraq, here's a sobering statistic:

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre

of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths.

That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers. The firearm

death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 persons for the same

period. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and

killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in

Iraq.

liberleft said...

i agree with the last writer....and i think that we should bring the troops back to washington and then our rate of gun deaths will decrease in washington....it is a shame that we cant control our crime in our country but we try to control violence in a country far away

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:22

You give the death rate in d.c and not the firearm death rate.

I do agree that D.C. has a real proble with violence. This started when they enforced a ban on all hand guns. D.C. is currently in the process of restoring their second amendment right's as an effort to bring crime back down. They are just another example of what will happen if we ban guns.

Anonymous said...

And D.C. residents need more protection: Crime has risen significantly since the gun ban went into effect. In the five years before Washington's ban in 1976, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 per 100,000. In the five years after it went into effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. In fact, the murder rate after 1976 has only once fallen below what it was in 1976. Robberies and overall violent crime changed just as dramatically. Robberies fell from 1,514 to 1,003 per 100,000 and then rose by over 63 percent, up to 1,635. These drops and subsequent increases were much larger than any changes in neighboring Maryland and Virginia. For example, the District's murder rate fell 3.5 to 3 times more than in the neighboring states and rose back 3.8 times more.

You can blam democrates for the problem with the SS system as well. The problem is to many people taking out and not enough putting in. If all the lazy dope head democrates would get off their ass and get a job we wouldnt have this problem. But like I said before... Its easier to sit at home and draw a check from the government. We need to put more restrictions on who can draw social security.
