Dragnet closing on alleged bank robber

Barnesville police investigators have identified the man they suspect robbed First National Bank of Barnesville January 28 and feel an arrest is imminent.
A warrant was issued late February 1 for Shon Disola, 36, on one count of armed robbery. Disola is a black male who spent the period March 8, 1991 - December 11, 1994 in Hall Correctional Institute on a first degree forgery conviction from Lamar County superior court.
At the time of that incarceration, Disola was described as standing five feet, seven inches tall, weighing 150 pounds and having scars on both hands. He has known current or former addresses of 201 Southland Drive, 123 Cherry Street and 226 Atlanta Street, all in Barnesville.
Disola is no stranger to area law enforcement officers. He was jailed in Lamar County in 1999 in connection with a motor vehicle theft in Pike County. In 2001, he had arrests for an open container violation, speeding, driving with a suspended license and giving false information to officers.
In 2003, he was arrested for two counts of domestic violence battery.
Another apparent family member, 56-year-old Patricia Disola, spent 18 months in Metro State Prison during 2002-2003 on theft by taking and burglary convictions from Lamar County.
At about 11:45 a.m. January 28, Disola allegedly walked into First National Bank’s main office in Barnesville and presented a teller with a note claiming he had a gun and demanding cash. He left with what was described as a sleeve of $20 bills totaling approximately $500. No gun was brandished and no bank employees or customers were hurt.
“We are most thankful no one was injured or harmed and are proud of the way our employees followed procedures outlined in their training. We are pleased with and appreciate the rapid response of the Barnesville Police Department. Officers got here immediately,” FNB president George Butler said.
The robbery, the first in the 106 year history of the bank, was captured on numerous security cameras.
Investigators said the Disola family moved here some years ago from Boston and that Shon Disola may have been trying to raise money to get back there.
At one point, authorities in Atlanta where Disola recently did time in jail had a lead on his whereabouts and consulted The Herald-Gazette website to study his mug shot. There were also indications Disola had pledged to turn himself in.

To the editor of this newspaper and blog: Please explain to me why this suspect's family member's past had anything to do with this current crime? This is an extremely pathetic way to drag someone's else personal life into this bank robbery. You're no skilled newspaper man and I hope that this person and the person whose mugshot you blasted all over this site in the beginning sue your ass.

7:36pm, I didn't say his past criminal history isn't fair game because obviously it is. I"m speaking of a relative of his whose past history has been splattered on this site for all to see. Some of this guy's family has been an asset to Barnesville. I definitely know of one but I don't see the good that he's done. I think it's downright disgusting and unethical what this editor did. Did he mention his buddy "Judge's" family's past transgressions? No, rightly so. I think Fair and Balance is a term that some of you need to express when you have a very impactful status in the community.
Speak now or forever hold your peace. You have the opportunity right here to talk about all the good this upright family member has done for the community. Don't just blow smoke. Family is fair game. So is yours.

I will not mention this guy's relatives name, but let me tell you, he has help keep my kid out of trouble with the work he does in the community.
