fidel castro steps down...
from the associated press...
Fidel Castro, ailing and 81, announced Tuesday he was resigning as Cuba's president, ending a half-century of autocratic rule which made him an icon in the world of communism and a relentless opponent of U.S. policy around the globe.
The end of Castro's rule -- the longest in the world for a head of government -- frees his 76-year-old brother Raul to implement reforms he has hinted at since taking over as acting president when Fidel fell ill in July 2006.
President Bush said he hopes the resignation signals the beginning of a democratic transition, though he doubted that would come about under the rule of another Castro.
"My wishes have always been to discharge my duties to my last breath," Castro wrote in a letter published Tuesday in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma. But "it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer," he wrote.
do you think this transition will make a difference in u.s. policy and this country's relationship with cuba?

will be interesting to see if george w bush ends up taking credit for this .....like ronald reagan took credit for the berlin wall and breakup of the soviet union........
Anybody seen Henry Abru lately? He might have gone back to his homeland to run for office

Next Dem. move is to side with Commie Cuba for a new trade deal. If only they could see the similarities of where Cuba is and has been and where they are taking us.
we can buy from commie china, but cant buy from cuba......whats up with that......cuba never did anything bad to us.....give them a break.......our government (republican, dwight d. ) supported castro in the overthrow of the cuban gov.....then we started hateing him.......
