I complained about my assessment. He listened and followed through with a site visit. It didn't change but I found him to be professional and responsive.

That's about typical. Someone tries to do their job and step on some toes along the way - Good bye.

Can anyone say law suit. Wrongful Termination!

That's totally normal for Lamar County as you said anyone who tries to do their job and they get the shaft like so many others in all departments.

Can you say setup. The man took the fall for someone else, I'm sure.

One assessor breaking law by being elected official, one assessor not attending certification program to be an assessor, one assessor making it a bad working enviroment. Assessors getting rid of someone actually doing a good job. PRICELESS

don't forget, one assessor is a real esate agent in lamar county. it is in her best interest to have values high!

I always thought Dan Smith was a professional appraiser. On the other hand we all know the Board of Assessors doesn't think twice about breaking the law.

While no one has a RIGHT to any job, it seems to me they fired the wrong person. The old family members without certification, the people holding an elected official, the people allowing conservation breaches and waving the legally mandated penalties should be the ones to go.

I believe the entire board of tax assessors should immediately resign. They have completely lost the respect and trust of the taxpayers of Lamar County. Let's wipe the slate clean and start all over. Shame on the board for taking out the results of their lack of leadership on the appraiser's office. Resign now, and let's get this county back on track.
