What are the future plans for the field?
It was fall 1969. I remember the stadium bleachers were filled. The banks were as well.Barnesville was filled with excitment. I was a freshman on the Gordon highschool football team. We were playing Manchester and it was a game between two rivals to put it nicely! Gordon had not beaten Manchester in a long time, We won the game with a field and Summers field erupted. fans and students stormed the field. It is a great memory that I will all ways remember. Seeing the score board Gordon 15 Manchester 13. All the proud students and fans pouring on to summers field. It was a night I think of all most every time I ride by there. Most of the proud parents of the players and cheerleadres alike are gone now. the momory will all ways live on!

I too, was a student at Gordon in 1969 and the memories I have of Summers Field on game night is with all the cadets marching in, then being dismissed into the stands. The pride of the football team - win or lose - the half time with the band. Homecoming with the girls in beautiful gowns, cadets in full dress uniforms and the band playing a great song, thanks to the direction of Mr. Clay Smith, (don't know the name of it, but it was great for the event)as they were introduced to the crowd. In 1969 we also had a football game between high school and college girls. High school girls RULED! Thanks for allowing me to recall "The Good Old Days". It is truly an honor to have gone to Gordon Military High School. Our classmates were from all over the country, it was a great experience.
1984...Charley Brown's Trojans went 10-2 that year. The defining win had to be the 7-0 win over Mary Persons mid-season when John John Sutton caught a touchdown pass from Rodney Fletcher to win the game. Sutton was crushed by two Bulldog defenders, one of who was former Trojan coach Calvin Scandrett, and suffered a concussion that sent him to the hospital by ambulance but he held on to the ball. Some believe he was hit so hard and blacked out so quickly that he had no choice but to hang on to the ball. Anyway, a stout Trojan defense, that included Junior Jackson and Craig Ogletree, shut out MP that night. A win for the ages!!!
I also played in those games and I thought be beat Manchester on the road. I'll always remember the time the field was bargained between the city, county, and BOE for demolition by using stolen assets from the county.
A lot of people don't realize this, but comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Tim Wilson both have performed at Summers Field...in high school football games. Foxworthy played for the Hapeville High Hornets when Lamar County hosted, and beat, them in 1975, 32-31. And Wilson played for the Brookstone Cougars of Columbus when the Trojans thumped them 50-27 in 1977.
Good bye Summers field stadium. What next.... New Gordon College building? or what?

I lived near Summers Field for several years when Dewaine Bell was the band director. All week long the band would play the same song over and over again. One day I told Dewaine that I wished the band knew more than one song. He just shook his head and said not as much as I do!
11:19 PM,
What about Mid Georgia Ambulance? How many EMT and Paramedic?
I Remember A couple of things like in coach scan first year wen we beat #6 state ranked jackson on a block field goal and in 2006 when we destroyed mp 27-7 its been good memories im gon miss it.
I don't understand why the Board of Education did not save Summers Field. It sure would have saved $$$$.
Can you imagine if they would have paved the parking lot, updated the stands and put in drainage like Gordon did across the road. We could have had a stadium to be proud of AND could afford! I too will miss it. Fond memories when I attended Gordon Military Academy during high school.
glad that future generations will have a stadium on their campus to make lasting memories. Bout time Lamar county got up to speed with things and built a first class facility. Glad everyone has great memories at summers field. Life goes on and you can keep your memories but don't do it at the expense of the kids today.
well since this feild is the first place the lamar county junior ROTC has performed at it should also be included.much better things have happened but they are also representing our community,I beleive it would be great to recognize major.paul stinson for helping our community raise such an incredible program, and using summers field as the foreground for their drill area.
What became of Coach Judy?
