OK who thought it was ok to throw that gory stuff in the parade?? I saw and heard about little kids being scared and crying because of that float! What was the idea with that?
It was a good parade. I always enjoy being with all the good people in Barnesville who celebrate our wonderful community.
Well now, wasn't it interesting how everyone thought Norfolk Southern property was perfect for parking their cars?
Mighty close clearance for several of them when the two trains passed through.
How about letting the people who live on Thomaston Street know that the parade would be going by there house??????
Say, what happened Saturday night in Greenwood cemetery and at the football field? Cops were arresting a bunch of folk and searching the cemetery for others?
The topic of this blog was that the parade route was extended. The story online and in the print edition told where the parade would go. Try paying attention.
The "gory stuff" wasn't just thrown in the parade. It was carefully planned and put together by those involved to advertise their Halloween horror trail It had just as much right to be in the parade as all the politicians and others using the parade to plug their wares.
Anon 7:21,
I read it in the paper twice.
As far as the parade I felt it was one of the best one's i've ever seen.
The reason they extended the parade route is where it would go by Dane's house!
Carefully planned to scare the kids? Its not a matter of 'rights'. It scared the kids. Thats what I am talking about; the kids. the politicians didn't have blood and a chainsaw...yet.
As far as being told the parade was extedned...it was on this blog, it was in the paper. Folks were probably talking about it, too. I always thought it should be longer.
I remember way back in the first few parades it seemed like everyone in the surrounding counties would bring their horse to ride. The horses went by for a long time. I really miss that. why, just three years ago there were alot more buggies.
I loved the parade coming by our house on Spencer St. We sat in our driveway and enjoyed it.
I agree about the halloween scene should have been in better taste...My 5 year old was scared by it and, she woke up last night having nightmares. Think about your audience...You could advertise without being so gory!
The float that was put in the parade for the Haunted trail was well thought out and planned to help get the word out regarding the Haunted Trail in October. It was not set to scare small children, the people involved with this float did not set out to scare the small children. What I witnessed is the fact that some parents would hold there children there for them to be scared. From what I witnessed also I didn't see the monsters as someone called them pin pointing small children to scare. Lastly, I feel that the people that took the time to create this float did it in a way that advertised there Halloween trail without trying to offend people. The same with the other floats that were created to advertise their businesses, politicians, and etc. We can't say what children will be scared of there are children that are not scared of that kind of float but would be scared of other things...dogs,balloons,clowns,etc. I truly feel that the people involved with this float did not set out to scare the children!!!!

Come on people loosen up you were a kid at one time. Didn't you have fun at halloween time? What about all the homes on Thomaston St., that decorate with gory stuff, but you push your kids up there to get candy.
I disagree, the chain-less saw dude wasn't there advertising anything. He was there to scare folks. I saw him crank that sucker up right in front of a kid about 5 yrs.
Its pretty simple. You advertise to the audience you are going to put the commercial in front of! How is it well thought out that you put that gory stuff out in front of kids YOU KNEW WERE GOING TO BE RIGHT THERE WATCHING IT.
Just for instance, you don't see commercials for r rated horror movies during Saturday morning cartoons.
The Pin head guy, the chainsaw massacre guy the cut open guy in the trailor...all over the top for this parade!
I have NEVER seen that kind of graphic gore at any house on T'Street and I have lived here for 25 years of my life! Those are all geared towards the little kids. Maybe a little spooky but NOT that blood and guts gore!
