It's time for public ridicule and humiliation of parents who never discipline their kids and think the schools are there to raise their kids and babysit for them. These parents are the ones who should have been paddled in school and maybe their kids wouldn't act like urchins and thugs. I say hold parents accountable for their kids wrongdoings.

Ah, so Mayor Banks has endorsed golf carts operating on city streets.
Now class, what's wrong with this picture?
-Does the golf cart have insurance like I have to carry on my auto?

-Mayor Banks says you have to have a driver's license to operate a golf cart on the street. Yet I continue to see minors, some quite young, operating golf carts on Barnesville streets. Is the Barnesville PD so busy running radar speed traps they don't(...won't) see this?
It is good that Banks has went on record regarding this. It will make the lawsuit from the first accident involving them so much easier to pursue.
Remember class, if you are involved in accident with a golf cart, INSIST the Georgia State Patrol be called for the accident investigation. Even if you have to call them yourself. The butt you save may be your own.
It is only a matter of time until the first fatal accident between a car and a golf cart being improperly operated takes place.

The Barnesville PD is busy catching bank robbers, and people shooting and stabbing each other. I think the golf carts is the least of their worries, it would be mine anyway. How many golf cart wrecks have there been in Barnesville?
Expelling the kids is like free days off to them. They could care less. I say whoop their ass and whoop it good. It will make them think twice before doing something at school. Mr. Harris didn't have to line me up but one time and that corrected my behavior at school.

paddling in school? what's the big deal? a long time ago, in an era far different than today, even as a polite and well mannered young lad, I received the gift of the old board sometimes. robert tenny, royce turner, and mr. marchman competed to see who delivered the heat. tenny and turner was good but marchman held the title. now the fastest paddle in the east went to mrs. cahacater (name probably misspelled) but those that knew her know what I mean. I can’t remember which one but, mrs vecey (also misspelled) or mrs cherry had a big oversized paddle with holes in it. the paddle was intimidating but they lacked in the delivery department. i guess just about every teacher i had used a paddle on me at one time or another. i turned out just fine.

8:23 Don't go putting all of it on the parents. I discipline my kids but have you ever heard of defacs? You can't even spank your own child now for fear that you might get in trouble.
These kids know that there isn't anything that will be done to them. Oh they may get suspended for a day or so. Some parents let them do what ever they want on that day. That is the problem. Kids at one of our schools have a new assistant that just gives them a slap on the wrist when they need to have charges pressed. That is a prime example of what is wrong with our school system. They aren't held accountable for there actions. One day when they mess with the wrong kid or it effects the child of a parent that won't back down and won't stand for it, maybe then something will be done. I just hope it doesn't come to that to open some eyes!

So, Ms Moore in this week's paper edition says it would be "wonderful" if the train switching could be moved out of town.
Ms Moore is to be forgiven if she is unaware of the history behind this issue. Allow me to relate the facts.
Back in the mid 1980's, the railroad began a project to add trackage north of Barnesville, where the Rayonier plant is currently located. This would have moved a large portion of the switching work out of town.
Unfortunately, your county leaders in their infinite wisdom, claimed squatter's rights for the dirt road that existed there at that time. As a result, the RR abandoned the project. I can understand why.
Perhaps, instead of building useless highway bypasses around this backwater town, construction of a couple of 5-7000 foot long storage tracks at the Industrial Park might make more sense?
Just don't ask the RR to pay for them.

Why hasen't there been any reports of the storm damage last night? Is Walter (Scoop) aware of what is going on in the county? I live on Barnesville road and experienced heavy rain, hail, and 50-60 mile per hour winds. I have tree limbs down all over my yard, a dent on the roof of my truck and a cracked windshield. My power was off for 6 hours. Did the sunshine everywhere else?

A refrigerator full of food ended up in the middle of Akiins Road during the storm. Did someone drop it off a truck or did it fall from a twister during the storm? In any case, we reported it to Lamar County first thing this morning and it's still there...right in the middle of the road. Now all the food's been pulled out onto the road and I guess we'll have animals going through it, if someone doesn't hit it head on first... Must have been a heck of a storm!
