I'm fine with it as long as it does not become a danger to merchant vessels, Mush like Galveston harbor it is very congested with large ships and oil derricks making it very hard to navigate though
DRILL!!!!
The government has already set aside 66 million acres of public land and coastal areas for oil drilling. The Oil Companies haven't drilled not one oil well on these acres. Instead of drilling for oil, how about regulating oil speculating. If the President and Congress were to regulate oil speculating, many analysts have gone on the record to say that a gallon of gas would go down to $2.00.
Permitting drilling will mean the oil companies will conduct some experiments & if there is enough oil to drill, they will then begin drilling.
Once the drilling begins, the oil will then be sold to China & India because they have refineries with capacity.
None of the oil will stay here!
I would love to have an oil well in my front yard.
Amen Brother! Oil royalties for life! OH yeah Oh yeah!

U.S. Geological Survey scientists have completed an economic analysis of a recent assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the central North Slope and adjacent offshore area belonging to the State of Alaska, a region of about 23,000 square miles (59,600 km2). This economic analysis indicates that at market prices of $55 per barrel of oil and $6 per thousand cubic feet of gas, a relatively high proportion of the oil and significant volumes of the gas can be commercially developed.
How much was gas when oil was only 55$ a barrel?
if things made in america are too high to compete with oversea products because our wages and health costs are too high, how do we think we can produce oil as cheap as we can buy it from overseas......we should just set on ours until the oversea supply runs out.
Martha,
With all due respect, you appear to be misunderstanding the report.
The mean amount of recoverable oil in the Northern reserves is about 4 billion barrels in the reserves discovered in 2005, in addition to 19 billion barrels in the earlier reserves.
The USA alone burns 21 million barrels of oil each day.
This means if we get every drop out of the reserves, it is less than a three year supply for the USA alone.
What the report you read actually says is if oil is more than $55 dollars a barrel OR MORE, it is cost effective to go get that oil.
There's a lot of nonsense circulating about oil, but the fact is we are in a real crisis. We might only have 50-100 years left if we cap what everyone in the world is using at present levels.
We have a dollar that has tanked, we have China, India, and other nations greatly ramping up their demand. If we sucked the coastlines dry and and sucked all the difficult to get oil from the North Slope out of the ground, we would have a six to ten year supply maximum just for the USA at present consumption.
You'll find an occasional Nutcase claiming he heard we have some vast hundred year supply hidden away, but we have very well documented reserves.
Even if we have a hundred year supply, which we don't, we will never see $50 a barrel again. As we get into more and more difficult to recover reserves, it costs more to recover the oil.
When the 4-10 year supply we have is gone, we are really screwed. If the Middle East blows up we could never pull enough oil out to feed our demand. If we did, and if it was all used up in 4-10 years for cars, we couldn't make thousands of products we use that are made from oil. We would be hostage, or we would have to fight a war for oil.
I know it is tough to admit it, but we actually are in bad shape. We created it by trading with China, India, and other countries.
The best thing that ever happened for our energy future is oil went way up in price. Unfortunately it went up for the wrong reasons. We should have made it $100 a barrel with taxes dedicated only for energy research instead of letting the Arabs have the money.
I really hope we don't do something stupid and suck the last 4-10 years of oil we have out of the ground. We need to save it. If we are going to use it all up, we need to build a very large military. Then we can just take the oil from the Middle East and Canada. When we own all the oil fields, we can control the world.
i drill my own oil with my big drill
10:30 Lot of info there... but where are you getting your facts from?
I disagree, we built a pipeline so we could get oil from Alaska. Oil companies regulate the oil, therefore if they say we have none then what are we to believe?
Having lived in Texas, some of my best friends are "Oil finders" for major oil companies. They tell me, the “big wigs” in the oil industry tell them all the time “It’s supply and demand” in other words, as long as there is a supply (And there is MORE than a 10 year supply in Texas AND Alaska) then we control the country.
Don’t believe me? Why is it that everyone is talking about gas prices? Why is it that CHINA can drill off shore in AMERICA but we can’t? Why is it that AMERICAN oil companies are making RECORD profits, but we continue to purchase oil overseas? Why is it that Pres. Bush just lifted the drill ban and asked congress to lift drilling laws?
Why is it that my friends have a job in TEXAS and ALASKA finding oil? Because it’s there! Oil companies will NOT drop prices drastically, I agree, after all if you were making record profits would you?
Supply and demand… it’s there, let’s get it!
Dear All,
I stand corrected Dane is fireman
Dane special secret fireman
He have redlight in his car
He have beeper
He have cell phone
He does excist
He got firecoat
he got helmet
He got SCBA
He got axe
HE got very long hose
I think I in love with Dane
Thankyou,
Dude from BLC-FIRE DEPT.
I heard many people mention regulate oil speculation. How can this be done if someone can explain this to me. How can you put a limit on something that is being bidded on.Isn't this a free market and OPEC controls much of the oil. If U.S says o.k the oil is worth $50 a barrel whats to say OPEC says o.k get your oil from somewhere else. I just don't think it is just that easy as saying regulate it. So if you can explain then do so.
I am a senator and don't want to hear all of you wine about gas prices. Up here in Washington me and fellow congressmen don't have to pay a dime to travel thanks to taxpayers, so we don't care how much it cost. Plus the nice trips, fancy meals, golf courses, country clubs, are bonuses offered to us from the oil companies and that is something we don't want to do without. All of us will be gone and won't have to worry in the coming years about the future of our country so don't cry to your congressman. Sure there are things we can do but then that would piss off the oil lobbist and they won't treat us to alcohol, ladies of the evening and all the other bonuses that come from being your leader in Washington.
Dane not real he not fireman and not have big drill.Stop it Dane not real!!!!
He not real!He not fireman! He not special secret fireman! No such thing as secret fireman! There is no Dane he dont excist! Stop saying he does!
Not real!
Not excist!!!!!
then dane is an undercover fireman....a plain clothes fireman, dammit he's something he's real and he fights fires!
What a stupid statement.
"It's all supply and demand, so the oil companies are holding back".
You fool. That only works if it is THEM selling the oil. It is the ARABS selling us the oil, not the Texans.
We know, after seeing GW Bush, that Texans are dumb and dishonest, but do you really think they are so dumb that they would withhold oil so the Arabs could make a killing on the price increase?
There is hardly any oil left around here compared to what we use. Get used to it. The days of big trucks and SUV's are over.
lets go to sand-land and kick their ass and take the damn gas ther ain't a damn one of those snad-N's ever going to amount to a F'ing thing

ok just drop it, I am not a real fireman, just like you.
I JUST WANT SOME CHEAP GAS I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT DRILLING AND THAT KIND OF SHHH JUST GIVE ME SOME CHEAP GAS
The biggest oil man in Texas is running an ad he is paying for personally telling us we need solar and wind power or Nuclear power.
If the biggest oil man the US had in recent times is worried about oil enough to do that, then we better get off our butts and do what he says.
I'm George W Bush and I approved this economy.
lifting the oil drilling ban would help just about as much as the economic stimulus rebate checks did......good job mr bush...try as hard as you can, but nothing is going to help except to end the unnecessary wars.....
Ok the only reason I want to dril for oil on US soil is so we are not bending over at the pump for those ...I just cannot even...it infuriated me to watch the President of the most powerful country in the world practically beg the Arabs to lower the price of oil only to have them doff thier little head wraps and say 'no we won't'.
I really want American to start going towards wind and solar. Adn fi all the farmers we are paying NOT TO PLANT couldl plant corn that would help too!
How long would it take get a wind field up and running and it would take more then the one T.Boone is planning in Texas. Is drilling for oil faster? I really don't care I just want to stop dealing with people who would have us begging them!
Martha,
The energy yield from corn per acre isn't very good.
Sugar cane is the highest yield, or amoung the highest yield. That's even why our bodies respond so well to sugar.
Some county in South America, I think it is Brazil (but I'm not positive) runs virtually 100% on internal energy because they grow sugar cane and refine it for fuel.
Once in a while you'll see a real kook get some press (generally he is selling something to make money, like a book or gadget) and make up a big true-sounding story with lots of small details that can be spun into a web of decite.
The fact is we know within a ratio of 2 or 3 to 1 how much oil we have.
We will never be oil independent by drilling for more oil. Even in the very best situation possible we only have a few years worth of oil left.
We should keep that oil for things that absolutely have to be done with oil.
Price now isn't a problem at all. Europeans and others have been paying this much for many years and they have a good economy. The difference is they paid it with a local tax that stayed in their countries, we give it to other countries.
Our real problem is we are spoiled and live for today. We can't plan for the future.
