commission okays budget; sheriff walks out....
county expects a legal challenge from sheriff joe buice over his budget allocation.
and now we can all start suing each other and have court and legal fees out the ying yang. Way to go Lamar County you once agin prove that you are all complete idiots
Walter; It's obvious that you don't want to print the truth for fear that it might offend the local sheriff and you might lose some business. This isn't a newspaper, it's a joke. You are not an investigative news journalist. You're in the pocket of the local politicians. This town needs a hard hitting newspaper without a panty-waist publisher.
So does this mean that with adding all those amounts back into the budget now makes it an unbalanced budget. I thought the law said that the county is required to have a balanced budget?
Wow. Letting inmates go doesn't exactly sound like a great plan here. My suggestions are as follows if anyone cares. 1. Who owns the house the city wants to buy and who's REALLY gonna profit here? 2. Secondly, please buy my house too. Bulldoze the thing and let me get the heck out of this hick town. 3. What in the world do we need another parking place for? Just pave Summers Field after you evict the Trojans. 4. You want more space? You should have bought the old Lamar EMC and turned that into your school board, headstart and bus yard. Use it for parking if you must. 5. I know we haven't had the best record with honest law enforcement here, but dang it there are SOME of them who actually take 'Protect and Serve' to heart, and they don't get paid squat. Hell, a kindergarden teacher makes more money straight out of school. Just a few suggestions here folks. Take it or leave it. P.S. I'm serious about buying my house.....
Ummmmm .... do we not have a MASTER plan for this county? With all this "buying and selling and giving property away" sure would be nice to know what this community will look like down the road! What are we trying to accomplish and why dont we work towards that?
If I'm not mistaken, another sheriff issued threats such as letting the inmates out. It's just a statement identified with anger over ignorance.
Our commissioners gave away county assets with enough value to just about equal the half the budget. They did it without a fight even after they were informed the assets belonged to the county.
JB has every right to complain. The commissioners failed and the PEOPLE watched and did nothing about it. Loss of protection from our law enforcement is just another end to the way things get accomplished. I'm sorry for the sheriff's office and the fire department, as well as other agencies that could have made good use of the value of property the commissioners and the citizens of Lamar County just gave away. Perhaps the city and the BOE will make good use of their windfall. Lamar, you're getting back what you put in. Nothing equals nothing.
Citizens need to remember that when they let the politicians get away with whatever they want to do - the people suffer - but they brought it all on themselves.
Remember that when it takes 30 minutes for the sheriff to arrive, or 15 minutes after you've been robbed or victimized in some way.
I can see I'm fixin' to have to start coming to these meetings. Especially since the board of commissioners is so nice as to ALLOW the voters to attend. Whatever. We put you in office sir, we can get you out. Remember that.
