Coach Scan is a good guy and I'm not sure why or how the team has gotten in the shape it is, but I'm not sure as a football coach I would want to come in and be the coach of a team where the former head coach is still the A.D. and looking over my shoulder possibly. It just seems like a uncomfortable position for someone to be put into.

If this is true it would Robbie Pruitt from Fitzgerald. I doubt it is him though. He is loved down there. He has established a great program and cant see Lamar Co. lureing him away. Just to compare Scan and Pruitt over 5 years.....

Scan Pruitt
Record 17-33 47-10
Region Rec. 13-27 32-2
Playoff Rec. 0-1 3-4
score 40+ pts. 5 18
allow 30+ pts. 22 2

Well, Calvin is a great guy and a good coach. I just hope that the LC fans aren't balming the coaches totally. Have you ever thought about how kids act??

Yeah I agree about the kids attitude and effort, but that still leads back to the coaches and the start of spring practice and summer camp. How does a football player stand in full gear in the rain with an umbrella? How does that show mental toughness? You have female spectators down on the field on the bleacher talking to players.!!!! Some maybe the kids, but the vast majority of this problem unfortunately does go back to the coaches.

So true Trey. It starts from day 1......DISCIPLINE! And where indeed does that come from?.....COACHES!

while i agree somewhat that things got a bit out of control this year with some players, a coach can only do so much with some of these thugs that come out to play. it does start at day one, that being the day they are born. these kids are 13, 14, 15 years old when they come into the program. their discipline, or the lack thereof, has pretty much been molded by their parents or guardians or the streets or whomever. a coach's job is to coach, not to parent. many folks simply dont want the responsibility of raising their kid so they send them off to football or other extracurricular activities to get them out of their hair for a few hours a day. that is pathetic. i hate like heck our football program is where it is right now but i do not fully lay the blame on Calvin Scandrett. he is a good man, a good friend, a good coach and he cares about the kids in the program but he cannot raise them. that is someone else's job and it's obviously not getting done. there are many facets as to why, i feel, football is not successful at Lamar County and we will explore them in print in the weeks to come. stay tuned...

to follow up on kenny's remarks, we would love to have your input on the series we are preparing that i am tentatively entitling 'mediocrity: the history of lamar county football'.

surely there have been some good football teams at lcchs but region titles have been few and far between and the school has never really threatened to win a state title.

why is it that the prospect of playing lamar county does not strike fear into the hearts of upcoming opponents?

why are the trojans not a perennial powerhouse? do we have lesser athletes? are our feeder programs inferior to those in other communities? are we just jinxed?

post your opinions.

if you want to be quoted in kenny's stories, call him or e-mail me at news@barnesville.com

Mr. Green,
That is the best I have heard. People always want to put the blame on the coaches. What about the parents??

It isn't like Lamar is Valdosta. Athletes don't come in there year in and year out. I guess some of you think he was wrong for kicking a player off the team who threw a football at him or for kicking #7 off the team.
