I like what I read here. Thanks to the commissioners for hiring him. Lamar County's future has just gotten brighter.
New blood is what we need.
This is something everyone should see.

And a test everyone should take.

Today I ask several people what they thought about the presidential candidates. Not one person I ask knew anything about any of the candidates and what they stand for. A couple of people could tell me the names of at least 2 candidates but that was all, they only knew the names.
I then ask them if they plan to vote. Every one of them assured me that they were going to vote.
And people wonder why we have problems in our country. We have the largest percentage of people voting with no idea what or who they are voting for. Scary ain’t it?
Well well well. . . Patterson it is huh? I still don't understand why we have had an interim in this position since January but didn't REALLY begin looking for someone to fill that position full time unitl September??? This just seems rush rush and only what Mr. Poore wanted - to get out of there and out of the spotlight - in a HURRY!!!
Sure Mr. Hardwick is going to call Mr Poore "invaluable" - - - he is on the Solid Waste Authority with Mr. Poore.
And all I can say is I sure hope that Mr. Patterson is a "quality person of very high character" - - but coming from someone with no character at all - - it's hard to know what to belive.
Hats off to you Mr. Patterson - some advise - Stand for what is right even if no one else is with you. I do hope you are a man with high character - keep it up. Don't let the good 'ole boys of Lamar County get you involved in all of their mess. Above all else stay true to your self - - and Keep your family first!!! (that is of course after your relationship with God)
I have every reason to believe that Mr. Patterson will do an outstanding job for Lamar County as County Administrator/Manager. I believe, because of his background and experiences, the title Lamar County Manager would be more appropriate.
As Johnny Poore returns to the Solid Waste Authority, Lamar County citizens should be very thankful that he was available to assist the county in its time of need. Unfortunately, too few citizens realize the mess the county finances were in back in January 2007. We are not out of the woods yet, but due to Mr. Poore’s efforts and the Commissions support we are in much better situation than only a few months ago.
Lots of work is yet to be done; however, with Mr. Patterson’s experience and our Chairman’s determination that the County keep moving forward, I am certain that the course that Johnny Poore has set is the right course that will serve this county very well for our future endeavors. Lest we not backslide!!!!
We citizens must do our part. Elections mean things!! We must elect commissioners that are willing to hold down and control spending, we must elect commissioners who understand their fiduciary responsibilities, we must elect commissioners who understand the budget process and we must elect commissioners who are willing to hold both elected Constitutional Officers and Lamar County department heads accountable for their actions and expenditures. And above all, we must elect commissioners who are willing to be held accountable themselves and not retreat to “executive meetings” and/or head for the tall grass when the going gets tough.
To often commissioners in their various appointments and hiring’s create potential (and sometimes actual) conflict-of-interest situations. This is not acceptable and must be avoided. I realize that many times it is difficult to get people to serve on various committees, etc.. However, that does not relieve the individual commissioners of their responsibilities to ensure conflict-of-interest situations do not arise.
In my opinion we have made great strides since January 2007. However, we are probably a couple of election cycles away from having a full Commission which will being looking forward rather than in the rear-view mirror. Old habits are hard to break!!!
With Johnny having set-the-course and now passing the torch to Mr. Patterson, we citizens must hold our commissioners accountable and refuse to accept any and all efforts to undo Mr. Poore’s efforts.
Mr. Patterson…welcome aboard!!!
Johnny Poore…thank you for your outstanding service!!!
I hope he does yall worse than you think Patty or Larry could have done. I grew up in B'ville and there is no way I would go back. Larry is a good guy and Patty held that job for over 25 years and all it took was one thing and everyone turned their back on her. She must have done something right. I bet yall regret electing Joe Buice as sheriff. He is more two faced than anyone I know. I hope yall are happy
Patty, Leave Goverment alone you proved a point you was runner up.Listen you are a smart person Lamar county is a small county you have lived in that county long enough once you mess up people don't forget. One of the things that has hurt you is you have forgot where you came from and you have forgot your friends you grew up with. These are the people that will staand by you through thick and thin. Lamar county does not want you back in that court house 28 years flushed down the toilet you see it wasn't you that suffered it also was your family. When you got in trouble I bet you didn't even think about that.
John Galt good sermon but I hope you are speaking for the future cause we done screwed up the past. That's going to take some time to fix what we as the citizens let happen. Like I said - most people have no idea who or what they vote for. They just go mark a ballot with the flip of a coin or by checking by a name they heard tossed around.
lilred -in-the-face
OOPS
sounds like anger pouring out all over. Just remember - someone has to win and someone has to lose. I would have liked to have had that job too.
Best of Luck in the new job
That's right. Atlanta is running out of water. While, meanwhile, back at the house, approximately 50 percent of high school students in Lamar do not graduate. Give or take a point, or kid, or two. So that will be good for Lamar, because when the big evil "A" runs out of water, the pickup trucks racing every morning to Atlanta for work will burn less gas and it will be nice here because of no work in the Atlanta area. Not a problem, as there is a overage of jobs and education right here in Lamar. Well, not really. And people can drink water while wondering why they cannot pay their bills because there is no work. And UGA will simply be the U of Lamar, without high school grads of course, and things will be fine because there is no Georgia in Lamar. Only Lamar. Yea, that's the ticket. Lamar doesn't have an E, only an M, but it needs to add one to spell ME, because that's the only thing adults in this county care about. The results in the schools are proof enough that it is nothing but talk here. Anyone want to buy a house?
Hiring people who are educated is the first sign of progress. Maybe I will keep the house for awhile. Sheriff Joe Buice is not the problem in this county. Education IS. Common sense is also common to some very smart people who never made it through school, and we have a few good ones here who are mostly smarter than those of us who opened the books. Just hope that they speak up.
IN YOUR FACE!!! This is not Patty. See my point, this town assumes too much!!
lilred said"I grew up in B'ville and there is no way I would go back" thank you so much, barnesville has been a much better place now that you are gone.
how kin u say edukashun is a problum here? we aint got no educashun, so it caint be a prublum
