Congratulations to the 90% of Lamar voters who let their pockets be picked by about 800 people. That's probably how many show up for football games in an entire season. Enjoy your new stadium.

You know this vote was for a bit more than just a football stadium. I think the vote shows that the people of this county might even care about what is good for the children. So see you at the games

shows how much you know 749. we have had great crowds at every game this season. even with torrential rain at all of the home games and the trip to forsyth to play mary persons the fan support has been great. so you just continue to sit at home on friday nights and grumble about everything and drink your paycheck/welfare check/social security check away and watch reruns of andy griffith while we have some fun

Helen:

If I was the redneck you think I am, I would be at the game sucking down Bud Lite and eating fried chicken and throwing the garbage out on Houston Street as anyone who drives by the next morning can see.

The vote was about more than a football stadium, but to spend two million dollars for a non-academic purpose when are SAT scores are in the toilet makes no sense. If we cared for our children we would use the money to teach them to read and write and add and subtract. But where is the glory in that?

whats wrong with you man dont you know that when lamar county builds a new stadium that the kids sat scores will go up ,the drop out rate will drop, unwed kids will stop having mixed race children, crime will drop, drugs will go away, and you will actually be able to understand what language the kids are speaking damn son get real football is what makes a kid lead grow up to be an usefull person to society

Sure worked for OJ and Mike.

10:19 - Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but there is more truth in what you say than you know. When we moved here years ago my kids played baseball for the high school and we had no field. We played at the rec field or where ever we could beg our way to use a field. It was sad and embarrassing.

Now we have a jam up field, kids holding their heads high.. kids going on to play ball in college.. some real school pride. Baseball team grades are up, they wear their uniforms proudly. Other teams are impressed when they come here... Finally!!!

You can't keep giving these kids third world facilities and treating them like second class citizens and expect to get much of anything good in return. I'm thrilled this went through and I do think you will see a different Lamar in 10 years than you do now. You have to give them something to be proud of... and the pride will be contagious.

The majority of the money is actually for a auditorium for the school system. Something that Lamar county has never had. Maybe they will even start teaching the arts, A proven way of increasing test scores, verbal skills, etiquette, and what fortune 500 company presidents believe every person in the business world should have knowledge of. Way to progress Lamar.

Anonymous said...

Let them be proud of rising SAT scores. Thinking that great sports facilities will turn a school around is like thinking that a new paint job on a car with a worn out engine will make it run better.

I am all in favor of teaching the arts. What we do in our public schools is a disgrace, but the old cunard that it improves verbal and math skills and raises SAT scores has been disproved by numerous recent studies. They should be taught because they are good and valuable in and of themselves.

John W. said...

I would like to see these studies could you leave a link thanks

john w @ 9:27 - and just how long has your head been stuck up your a$$?

5 will get you 10 that taxes will still go up and the majority of that money is going to get a sports arean to replace the one stolen by the city and/or pissed away by the county, depending on how you want to look at it.

Anonymous said...

Wow... ZERO pride in education and sports. Anyone ever talk to Dr. Truby about all of this? You should. I believe His vision and leadership will turn Lamar schools around. It changed they way I was looking at the SPLOST vote! It's MORE than a football field for all you ANTI sports people, WE ALL get a little piece of the pie,... New auditorium, stadium, education supplies and school upgrade. I say WIN WIN!

Anonymous said...

Where there is NO vision the people perish is what scripture says. Sounds like were living it here because people are affraid of success. People are affraid to believe that an "upgrade" to the school will make kids better. People like to moan and groan because the football team get a new field, the track team (Who NEVER had a home meet) gets a track, the teachers and students get supplies and facilities. Hmmmmm Sounds like a VISION to me, but hey some small minded life long Barnesvillians dont want that!! WE LIKE IT THE WAY IT WERE!! Dont let SELF CENTERED Ideaology defeat the future!

Anonymous said...

I agree 1:39. All 161 of them!!!

Anonymous said...

if you beleive everything "scripture" says there is no reason to try and discuss anything,i learned a long time ago when a person becomes bible blind they will never see the truth

Anonymous said...

it will be interesting to see in ten years just how much lamar county schools SAT scores increase because of a new football stadium, showing support for your school system should'nt start with football stadiums

Anonymous said...

2:46 You are so clueless... the money is for a long list of things ... the football field is just one thing on the list. Perhaps if you had done your homework on this issue you would know that.

Why would you not want better for the next generations?? Why be so selfish? Get a grip and get over it.

The more I see people's true colors on these blogs the more I understand the attitudes some of the kids here have... they have no plans for the future and they just "exist" Many of you have lost your vision for the future and have passed that feeling on to your children ... how sad.

Thank God for parents who encourage their children to make the world better every day, reach for the stars and have a vision for a better life... those will be the few that make things happen in the future!

Anonymous said...

2:43 Why do you say that? Almost like "profiling" Please dont put me in a box, I didnt do that to you. I'm not your "Average" christian. I listen and not judge. This blog has NOTHING to do with Christianity, but that scripture speaks VOLUMES to church and un church. No vision = what we have! Plain and simple. Like I said before, talk to Dr. Truby, go to the school meetings and hear fro yourself what SPLOST is all about. Then you will capture the vision!

Anonymous said...

tax and spend--tax and spend that sure is the way to a promising future thats for sure well we all better get used to it because the lieing hildabeast clinton will get elected by the same tax and spend mentality of lamar county t

Anonymous said...

Holy Crap Batman!! Has ANYONE read the SPLOST list of "Stuff" were getting? If you did, why are you STUCK on the football stadium? WOW, new upgrades in safety and security, New computers, band equipment, New auditorium, school bus upgrades, renovation to the existing High school. WOW!! Our kids deserve better! Our future deserves better!! Look at the elementry and middle schools then walk over the the High school... We need the upgrades!! THANK YOU LAMAR COUNTY!!

Anonymous said...

Because we want "upgrades" for our children were now being labeled? Small minded people in Lamar. All they care about is the "right now". Has anyone Noticed the influx of houses and people coming into the county and we want NO upgrades to the schools? Hmmmm

Anonymous said...

Have heart people, it is going to be a struggle, but real change is coming to Lamar County. And change for the betterment of all citizens. Even if all of the people who want to continue to live in the past don't want it.It is good to see that there are positive thinking people posting to what is usually a very negative blog. And it is good to see that there are people who actually took time to read the information on the splost and realize how important it is. I don't have children, but those who came before me paid for my education with their taxes and I and we all now must pass that favor along.

Anonymous said...

Fantastic job YES voters! I think it's wonderful the less than 200 whiners who went to vote NO couldn't drum up any more support for their ignorance.

I'm happy a new football stadium is on the horizon and yes, my kids are athletes. But more than that, I'm happy that there will be funds available for the much needed upgrades and renovations to the high school. It is astounding to me that the school looks EXACTLY the same as it did the first time I passed through the doors as a Freshman in the Fall of 1977. Everyone who has ever been to an awards ceremony, or sports banquet held in the cafeteria knows there is a legitimate need for an auditorium. And who in their right mind could aruge with the need for computers and books?

Anonymous said...

6:33...so lets spend $2million more on books and computers not a blessed stadium.

Anonymous said...

I'm happy that so many of you got what you wanted but I am ashamed of so many of you for allowing what you let take place to get there.

You let the city steal assets from the county, "you", AND, you all could care less. That means they are no better than common criminals out on the street and you support it.

You watched as a lame board of commissioners bow down to the city led by coward that was afraid to stand on his own two feet and fight for your property after being told that what the city did was not legal. You all allowed it, could care less, and you did nothing.

Why should anyone want to work for you all when you all just don't care. Your attitude; whatever happens - happens.

I guess you all will get exactly what you all deserve and I truly hope that I am the one that is wrong about everything. Only time will answer those questions.

I did not go out and vote yesterday because I knew what the outcome was going to be so I'm not complaining either way. I support education and I support splost. I don't support theft, deceit, and lies which is what I consider much of this ballot was about.

What the Lamar County football Trojans need is a new coach, not a new football stadium.

Anonymous said...

Of course atheletics is far more important than education.

Why shouldn't Lamar county spend money on a new stadium on land stolen from taxpayers by the good old crooks on the Ag Authority and the City?

After all the county has the dumb buttheads on the commission who allow the City to shaft them at every turn.

If we let a dozen people constantly rob us of tax money why not let the school system do the same?

Too bad they didn't have computers and books when you went to school. You might have learned where to place commas and how to spell.
:-D

At least you knew how to touch the X for yes or no. That's more than 9000 slackers did.
Dems da same slackers who allow the City to steal from the County.

They steal from the county because they know the Commissioners are spineless slugs who keep appointing the same crooks to all the authorities.

Books and computers aren't going to make a difference either. I went to a private school and used books from the 70's in the 90's and we all shared two or three computers. Our SAT scores blew LCCHS out of the water. When are you people going to learn that money is not the answer to your government educational problems. Last time I looked, the Lamar County School System was spending roughly 8k-9k per student. How much more do you want? If you can't teach a kid to read on 9k/year, will 10k/year really make a difference? That kind of money would get quality education at a number of area private schools.

New books, computers, or a football stadium is not going to change anything. The only thing that will better the results is more parent involvement and -cover your ears democrats - increased FREE MARKET COMPETITION and decreased monopolistic bureaucracy.

How many of you anti tax jackasses went out and voted. Your all just ignorant sacks of crap that would have been better suited as a stain on the wall

Anonymous said...

It sounds like a lot of you think that the sales tax is going up. Do you think that or is that just what I'm reading? I hope people posting know that the tax is staying the same. And Private school guy read a book called the Bell Curve and that will tell you what you need to know

Anonymous said...

The Bell Curve - A system used to make stupid people equal to smart people to make up for a poor education.

This count does not have the childs best interest at heart if they did then my grandkids would not be subjected to the lifestyle that they have to live in. As far as the SPLOST goes at least some of the welefare people will be paying also.

So what if I failed to take out a comma when I restructured a sentence or misspelled argue. You obviously understood the intention of the post, so why are you sweating the small stuff?

Quit trying to be the grammar patrol and instead spend some time trying to find out why YOUR people failed to vote NO.

if georgia were the Ahole of the world, you could find lamar county stuck 1 mile up inside. all the little power hungry politicians could be named "the roids" as they are a pain in the *** and don't know s**t. the people can be the toilet paper as they are usually covered with the s**t and then flushed away. other people can be farts cause they start a stink but soon fade away after the roids fill the paper with s**t and flush it away.

The time for sheep to remain silent has ended. Say NO to tyranny, hate speech laws, being tasered, micro-waved, chip implants, forced vaccinations and all of it.

DO your own homework and your own research when something doesn't feel right. Think you're not in school anymore? Think again life IS school.

Trust your gut instincts when something sounds disturbing you'll be quite surprised if you keep score how often that feeling turns out to be correct.

PS...if you post with any stupid name (other) you can still be anonymous, it will make everything so much more interesting.

Anti-Education,
I agree with some of your post but I have to say that I LOVED that little punk getting tasered.
I have seen the video, and yes there are many different ones, but I still came to the conclusion that flinging your arms around and running in circles from security is always a sure fire way to be locked up- or in this case tasered.

Please give me a little more info on your "forced vaccinations" rant, I'm not really getting the point of that.
Please don't send me to a RENSE.COM sight but give me a little more info.
Interesting.

The "forced vaccinations" is meant to be for the vaccination that drug companies feel young girls should be given to prevent a cancer that they may never get. But the human body is not the persons own personal property any more. One more thing about this is that I have observed is that the more young girls eat from fast food places, is that they develop way too fast because of all the steroids that are place in cows and pigs to grow them faster so that they can be killed and consumed by younguns.

HEY FOLKS I HAVE AN IDEA!

WHY DON'T WE ESTABLISH SOME BASE FEE PER STUDENT TO ATTEND SCHOOL AND ANOTHER BASE FEE FOR THOSE WHO RIDE THE BUS. OR IS THERE ALREADY SUCH A FEE PER STUDENT?
HOW ABOUT $50.00 PER STUDENT PER MONTH TO ATTEND SCHOOL AND $12.00 PER BUS RIDER PER MONTH. MAKE IT PAYABLE OVER 12 MONTHS.

I OPEN UP THE DEBATE!

AND DO NOT TELL ME PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO EDUCATE THIER OWN CHILDREN!

Anonymous said...

I OWN TOO MUCH PROPERTY NOT TO VOTE FOR THE SPLOST. I OWN SEVERAL RENTAL HOMES IN THIS AND OTHER COUNTIES. I HAVE OFTEN THOUGHT OF ESTABLISHING SEPERATE FEE EACH MONTH TO THE RENT TO REFLECT THE AMOUNT NEEDED TO PAY THE SCHOOL TAXES. I KNOW I AM ALREADY DOING THIS IN MY RENTAL RATES EACH MONTH BUT IF ALL LANDLORDS A LIKE WOULD CHARGE A SEPERATE AMOUNT FOR SCHOOL TAXES AND SHOW IT IT MAY GET SOME ATTENTION.

Anonymous said...

6:44 p.m. That is a great idea!!Why should a person who has no children have to pay school taxes. This should be the responsibility of the people who have children and they should also pay for the extra buses that run the same route every morning and evening. Two or three buses running the same route is a ridiculous waste of taxpayers money!
