since the reports by general petraeus and...

ambassador crocker, have you changed your mind about progress in iraq?

No, but I have changed my mind about the democratic party.
Now I KNOW, without a doubt, that they refuse to back any effort and all progress made in the effort for security from Islamic extremists extending home to our shores or our allies back doors all in the name of politics. There is no other excuse for thier actions and this party is FOREVER tainted with thier latest remarks.
A Question for you Democrats,
If the remarks by General Petraeus are secdond hand lies then why do they agree with him stating that the political state in Iraq is failing? Harry Ried says that anyone who has lied in the past or during any testimony can not be counted on as a credible source of information, but, this particular information is perfectly credible because it sides with the democratic agenda!
The Democratic party has completely failed in thier judgement on this THEATER in Iraq and now is forced to simply grab at straws and make any bold move possible to sustain what little grip on voters they have.
If Liberals are the only voting base you have left (obviously so according to thier remarks), then you have already lost the election. Moderate democrats have respect for the military and this respect overshadows ANY party affiliation and the same goes for Independents.
Hillary, Obama, Edwards in any combination for President and Vice President is nothing but a deeply flawed campaign.
I'm not trying to change anyones idea of who to vote for, I simply see this as the honest truth as an American and as an Independent.
I will say that poliutics would change alot if we all just became free of party affiliation, they BOTH screw up, some more than others.
SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING, IN A HURRY!

I have to agree with the first poster. I am dumbfounded at the venom used by the majority of Democrats at the recent hearings. Let's not forget, less than a year ago Gen Petraeus was comfirmed by the Senate with zero no votes.

Now this same General is a liar according to many at the hearing. Can't you see our emenies laughing themselves silly? What must the average soldier think when political leaders are calling their commander a liar.

Do people desire political power so much that anything is ok? Frankly we has a nation need to seriously consider where we are as a nation and how we can make fundemental changes in our political process.

Those who know me may say, he's a Republican and not take any stock in my comments. I am a Republican, but I also think many Republicans are way off base and the republicans lost the last election for good reason. We republicans deserved to lose because we where spending money faster than the Dems and frankly had developed an arrogance of power.

Back to the central point. God help us if we consider all people liars simply because they disagree with you.

I am still a proponent of usings exclusively midgets in the military.

Kent K., you have got to be kidding me. What you accuse "democrats" of is standard operation for the republican party. You guys are political thugs who hijacked the word "conservative" and manipulated good Christian Americans into a frenzy by using fear and scare tactics to justify your ends. Congratulations to everyone who wanted to "free" the Iraqi people. A million of them have now been freed of the need to breathe. Before you put me in that little liberal labeled box, let me assure you that I am pro-military and have no problem with Petraeus. He's been charged with an impossible job and he's not one to tread water. It's the political mess that needs to be cleaned up. Republicans need to be taken to the woodshed again in O8 along with a few Democrats as well.

So I guess GLOBAL WARMING and the threat of GLOBAL DISASTER by it is in no way shape or form spreading fear.

Congrats Barb @ 3:12PM, you just proved that you are an idiot.

If you're going to make a comment, you should at least be knowledgeable about the subject.

Barb-

You seem to have missed the point I was attempting to make, and by the way, I am a republican and I am not a political thug.

The point is this. I am not writing about the merits or demerits of the decision to go to war. I am not writing about the merits or demerits of either political party.

I am writing about the elected officals that publicly accuse the commanding general of U.S. Forces in Iraq of being a liar. That is way out of bounds and brings discredit on those who participated in such slander.

Barb, would you agree the move on .org advertisement was wrong? Would you agree calling a career, highly decorated general a liar is wrong?

The ball is in your court

If we sent ALL of this country's elected officials (House, Senate, President & VP) to Iraq instead of troops, the world would be a better place.

Both parties need to be eliminated!

Kent K,
MoveOn.org is a fringe group of really peed off people that are trying to push an anti-war stance and create headlines that support their cause. I wouldn't have ran that ad and neither would any other mainstream Democrat. I just read an article by Dick Morris about the 08 election. On both sides of the article were ads selling "conservative" themed t-shirts. One of them was a really bad pic of Hillary with a slash through her face. The caption read "Re-defeat Communism." Fringe stuff Kent. One thing is for sure though, our General has tough skin and withstanding a political ad is the least of his worries.

Barb-

MoveOn.Org is not a fringe group, they have regular confernce calls with the Speaker of the House and with the Senate Majority Leader. If that is fringe I am amazed at their power. In addition, name one democratic candidate for president that condemed the ad, General Betray Us. Not a single one did.

In addition, you didn't answer the queation about the advirtisement or calling the Commanding General a liar. Do you comdem both actions?

P.s. Barb-

Comparing the excess towards a political candidate and excess towards a Commanding General during a war is totally different. That is exactly the point I have been trying to make.

The democratic opinions of the war have changed almost every other year.
1- they were willing to support the President and realized the danger at hand.
2- no wmd's = no cause for war (never mind what they did find and the fact that Iraq wasn't following UN guidlines on thier probation for having wmd's in the past) Saddam hung himself with his blocking of the UN Inspections. If he didn't have anything to hide then why block the UN when American soldiers are next door hunting Al Queda. This blockade forces America to protect thier soldiers from potential chemical warfare by going in themselves (remember the UN would not go in).
3-"It's all about oil and taking up for his dad, he thinks he's a cowboy!"
The oil has not been taken over for profit of American businessmen or America itself and if Bush was such a war pig "cowboy" we would have bombed Iran by now, but there is more to think about than just dropping bombs or invading countries.
4- The Iraqies will never help. The Iraqies are helping and dying for thier freedom and if given enough time to form a usefull military they will be the front line not us.
5- Thier Government is a wreck and it will never work. Religion is too powerfull in this region to overcome diversity in government or any other ruling positions.
Given the lack of support this war effort has had and the gains it has made without it, I wouldn't say anything is impossible.

What exactly is the time allowed by Democrats to take a Dictatorship and turn it into a Democracy in the middle of HELL?

Petraeus is not a representative of any political party therefore playing politics with his name as a serving General in our military should be frowned on. IF HE WAS SUCH A LIAR AND BUSH HAD HIM IN HIS POCKET THEN WHY DIDN'T ANY DEMOCRATS SPEAK UP AGAINST HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE?
The sad thing is that he had good AND bad news but all the democrats want to do is tear him down in the name of votes for the good news he reported.
Now is not the time for sound bites, either capitalize on our strengths or get out and leave all that has been worked for behind.
I will say this,
if you think we should leave Iraq and just "Hunt Down Bin Laden" you have lost your mind. He will have the strongest support of any Lunatic in the history of the world and recruits lined up from Iraq to Iran.
He has informed the world with the latest videos that HE will not quit in this war, if we leave it will be HIM saying "I have defeated the greatest military on the planet, would you like to strap on this bomb?"
Think about that.

Most of you have "0" concept of the workings in the military.

Generals are not "YES" people. They are surrounded by them which makes their job difficult. They can and do say what they believe and bow down to no one. That outward displayed appearance is know as "respect to the office"

Thank you 7:59 and 8:34, you are exactly correct. It amazes me in this "tear everyone down world" that people can't see the difference between politicans and a commanding general leading men in combat. It is so vastly different to should be obvious to anyone.

I wonder if the writer from 6:26 ever served in the military? I doubt so, because if he had he wouldn't use the term "betrayus" to address a combat veteran with over 30 years of service to his country. I thank God we have men of the quality of Gen Petratus.
