gordon professor steven rodgers, 56, was injured - apparently in a fall - this afternoon in the parking lot of melton hall on campus.
the emergency call was originally paged out as a possible shooting but that proved to be false.
local residents terry chapman and gus hickman spotted the man from college drive and summoned help.
the victim was lifefighted by emory air. his condition is unknown.
in the photo above, students watch from the melton hall steps as rodgers is loaded onto an ambulance for transport to the medical evacuation helicopter.

SHAME ON YOU!! Reporting on an accident is news. Publishing a picture of the bloodied and injured victim is sensationalism. If this is what they teach you in journalism school, I am saddened. This man and his loved ones have suffered enough trauma for one day; seeing this horrible photo will only add to it.
I agree - what lack of empathy and just plain decency - you are doing nothing more than ambulance chasing. Printing a story would be appropriate, but the picture is totally out of line.
How wonderful, yet another stellar performance by Mr. Journalism himself. You make me sick!
Thank you for showing some common decency and removing that sensationalistic photo. In the future, please, please keep in mind that behind every accident, act of violence, or death there is a human being. A human being with family and friends who do not need to be subjectd to any additional pain.
And you three self-righteous lost souls make those of us who enjoy this progressive site sick.
Walter give us the news. Don't sugar coat it. By venturing here we accept responsibility for what we open. It may not be pleasant or we may not like what we read but hooray for you for capturing the scene. Put it back on.
Thank god for Walter. He has done his job by letting us know what goes on. I am sure the same people who think that picture was "sick" are the same ones who use the n- word and are the worst biggots. But god forbid he do his job.
Thank you Walter........keep up the great coverage.
News isn't always pretty. Get over it, whiners.
First of all, For all the complainers...If you don't like the man's work...Don't darken his blog!, You chose to come here, so get over it. You are fortunate that Walter maintains this blog for you to have somewhere to bitch and moan anonymously. Scoop, Regardless of all the bitchers and complainers, I for one enjoy your blog and paper keep up the good work.
ROME
i enjoy your blog too. keep up the good work!
POWP
I guess next time you would like Walter to ask the victim to whip himself off next time?
I thought Barnesville had grown adults living here.
You can't handle a little blood?
We are human beings. If you cut us we bleed, so grow up!
I bet the reason he put this up was because it was first reported as a possible shooting at Gordon, were young adults live and go to school. So he put up a picture of the man to show that it wasn’t a student and that it wasn’t a shooting.
To Walter Geiger and everyone who has spoken out in support of him:
1. News is NOT pretty, that is true. And yes, Mr. Geiger does a great job of reporting the news in our fair town. But bad things can be reported without graphic photos. Stop and think (especially you Mr. Geiger) - if your wife, husband, son, daughter, etc. were killed in an accident - would you want a picture of their bloodied and injured body on the web or front page of the newspaper? Think of how that would magnify the grief you felt. Granted, this man was not killed (as far as we know) -- but the original photo posted on here was in poor taste, to say the least. And could be very hurtful to his family/friends.
2. We are not "whiners" -- we are just asking, again, for some human compassion and decency. Even in the world of news or should I say ESPECIALLY in the world of news...it is possible to exhibit good standards of behavior.
3. Yes, we visited this blog freely and of our own will. HOWEVER, this blog is not identified at being "The Barnesville Mayhem and Gore Blog" -- we chose to view the blog to learn of local NEWS, not see sensational photos. The REPORTING of the news is not an issue here; the lurid PHOTOGRAPHY of the event is. And last I checked, an intelligent opinion can be freely expressed in this country. You have your opinion, I have mine. To quote one of the bloggers: Get over it.
4. Re: the blogger who insinuates that those of us who criticized the original pic on this blog are racist users of the "N" word -- So, you are saying that if I CARE about the feelings of others, then I am a racist??? It's such a ridiculous stance that I'm not sure how to address it. How in the world you make that connection baffles me. But one thing - if you're going to use words that you obviously have no understanding of, please at least learn how to spell them. It's b-i-g-o-t not "biggot". Spell check -- it's a wonderful thing - use it, please.
And finally, no matter what your position on the reporting of today's events may be -- please keep this man in your prayers. I'm sure his family would appreciate it.
terry chapman and gus hickman good job spoting him but we all know what you where trying to spot is some hot gordon girls
I am not anonymous. My name is Amanda Buice. I just want to say that when I worked at Gordon, Dr. Rodgers worked in the house beside me. He was friendly, but what I remember most about my encounters with him was his love for his daughter. He is smitten with her! My son and his daughter were in a swim class together this summer. Dr. Rodgers and his wife came to class together with their daughter. It was obvious that she was the apple of his eye. She is three. She is in Atlanta now with my sister Rhonda who works at Gordon. She is asking for her daddy and where he is. She is crying. Mrs. Rodgers is alone here with no family. She told Rhonda last night how wonderful this community was and how amazed she was at the outpouring of kindness shown to her during this time. May she continue to think that and may we do what we can to be wonderful. I decided to post this here on the blog site to ask that you who have a faith pray for Dr. Rodgers and his family. And I guess I also wanted you to know more about the man you are discussing....to honor life...to be thankful...and to be more.
Thank you Amanda. Someone here with class.Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Our prayers go out to Dr. Rodgers and his family.
Thanks to Amanda for her comments. A true lady.

USC knocked UGAy out of their socks.
I heard that he was shot....what's the scoop...scoop?
He was not shot. He had a seizure and banged his head hard on the pavement.
Does anyone have an update on his condition?
Dr. Rodgers passed away on Sunday 9/16/07.
