a 19-year-old woman was allegedly driving under the influence of marijuana when she caused a december 6, 2006 accident that killed local mortician james williams and seriously injured his wife, blanche, who has now returned to work at the family funeral home in barnesville.

brittany shea guthrie (left) was indicted yesterday by a bibb county grand jury on charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of marijuana and serious injury by vehicle.

the accident occurred on shurling drive in macon. guthrie allegedly drove into the path of the williams funeral home van. the resulting collision carried both vehicles into oncoming traffic where each was struck by a second van. the driver of the second van was also injured seriously.

My heart and prayers go out the the Williams family.

This is a very sad situation. I don't know the Guthrie family or anything about Brittany Guthrie. I'm just basically stating my opinion.

We all at some point and time during our lives have been one screw up away from jail. Stop and think about it. One beer, a hit off of a joint, a pain pill etc...there's lot's more!! There's lot's of people that aren't abusing these things but every once in a while will have a beer with their pizza, or have to take a pain pill because they had a tooth pulled. Things like that... And all because of having done any of these things and getting behind the wheel of a car, getting into an accident. the rest of your life is over!! Because you will spend it in prison.
Maybe this 19 year old had a problem or didn't, I don't know. But if it was just a one time thing she did...could you imagine what her life is going to be like. She could've been going to college or on her way. She could have been a wonderful person.
This could be any of our children or even ourselves.
Have a blessed day.

Anonymous 12:03, I never smoked marijuana or did drugs. I do not know what "group" you associated with, but I know of many others who have lived life without illegal drugs.

I wonder how many people do not realize how long THC remains in a persons blood after using weed. I also wonder how many people do not realize that if a person causes a traffic accident with injuries in the state of Georgia that their blood will be pulled and tested for illegal substances. Have THC in your system and cause an accident with injuries = jail. Fairly simple ain't it.

not just jail.......vehicular homicide equals PRISON!!

Yellowrose, just what do you mean by "group"?

Yeah - what "group"? Pot isn't just for commies anymore.

Prohibition didn't work in the 1920's and it doesn't work now. Our laws are severely antiquated.
Too bad being high for a few hours means a few weeks of tainted body fat.

LOL! By "group" I merely meant "birds of a feather flock together" group. A person tends to be comfortable and associate with others who share his or her interests and values. This preference often leads a person to believe " everyone shares the same activity or values"

I was merely disagreeing with the comment "who hasn't smoked janie, I sure have".

Communism never crossed my mind, but the comment is still amusing me.

Sorry anon 7:51 your wrong. The officer has to have reasonable suspicion or some type of evidence to have the blood taken. It use to be if it was a fatal crash then both drivers would be tested, supreme court has ruled that to be unconstitutional. If people were tested in all the wrecks that occur the hospital would have to build a whole new wing just to test blood on people involved in a crash.
