if you want a future for this country vote for a democrat

There's an intelligent statement!
If you want a future for this country, look at what the candidates stand for and vote accordingly. The party system has become a total laughing stock!

We need a misc. blog!

If you want a future for this country, we need to revamp the legislative & executive branches & put an end to the 2 party system as we now know it.

Term limits!

In the meantime, a full-time paid fire department would be a big plus!

thats the truth, but those folks realy do a great job,i'm glad we have them --after we moved to lamar county we meet some of them and i'll tell you they are better trained than most full time firemen

show me the money and i will support increased staffing. but do not show me the money if it comes from increased taxes. did horton and brown say they would vote to increase our taxes to fund thier wishes of more staffing? horton is my commissioner so i will be asking him myself.

ok lets man parker branch but lets go to fire districts and tax them to fund it. i live near piedmont station and i dont think my taxes should go to fund a station on the other side of the county.

ANON 10:41 since Horton is your Commissioner why not ask him why should Commissioners who are part time county employees being drawing Major Medical Coverage at approx $6000/yr. Since he is one of the two commissioners drawing these benefits, his response should be very interesting.

Some of our Commissioners are more worried about protecting their political turf than the hard working tax paying public!!!

Remember elections do count!!!!!

While a full time staff would require an increase in property taxes, your homeowners insurance will decrease due to a better protection class.

I do not doubt that our volunteers are well trained, but the inherent problem with a volunteer fire department is response time & having enough available at the right time.

i agree, right on this one walter, there are very strong storms in one area. Tell your readers how lamar county is offering to pay for the personal property being withheld from Mr. Vaughn even though Judge Wilson has signed two or more court orders for his family to remove it. Bids have been placed on the restaurant as a whole and the equipment does not belong to the county.

This is the second place to burn completely to the ground on Walton Road. I don't know exactly when the fire started but it sure took a lond interval between the lightning strike that I suppose is what hit the building until when the fire dept. arrived.

Anon 1024: Fire insurance rates are, with all things being equal, a function of pressured water and fire hydrants.

You can man each fire station, full time and still not see a reduction in fire rates until you have water and hydrants throughout the county.

Although the Water Authority is doing a fine job, they work with grants. Grants have to be requested, approved and then allocated. These grants, for the most part, are state grants. They come and go at the whim of the state government!!!

I have checked with the Water Authority and it will be quite a while before the county has full water coverage thoughout. Probably years!!!!

What we really need is a merger of the City and County fire departments in order to bring about more professional fighters, enjoy enconomies of scale and hopefully quicker response times.

Unfortunately, we have the polictical aspect we must deal with and that presents a problem. Everyone wants to protect their little polictical turfs regardless of the benefits that the citizens might enjoy by having better fire coverage.

We must deal with facts, not emotions.

The county radio system is a mess...not from money.... but from poor planning.

The installations are poor and need cleaned up, and part of the problem is the large commercial tower near the county tower never should have been allowed there. NEVER.

Bad engineering idea that puts our first responders at risk.

It would be interesting to learn why someone allowed that tall tower to be built so close to the smaller county tower.

There is a fire hydrant straight across the road from thier house there was no problem with that it was just the low response time. Yeah there will be water lines all throughout lamar county and any one who has their own well should get in on the hookup before they jack the prices up and you pay $900 for a meter. They probably also stop people from having their own wells drilled and condemn the ones that are already there.
