though only a relative few outside the metro area are served by it?
the high costs of indigent care are bringing down the facility with what is likely the state's premier trauma center.

Poor management and treating so many indigent patients is what lead to the problem. No I don't feel that we should bail them out.
1)It's the only major trauma care center between Macon & Chattanooga, so if it serves quite a lot of Georgians.
2) It's one of only 2 burn centers in the state.
3) If Grady is shutdown, other metro Atlanta hospitals will have to treat the indigent, so that high cost will just get transferred to other facilities.
In the event any of my family is in a bad accident anywhere north of Spalding county or in a fire, I would prefer Grady stay open.
i didn't know they were in trouble.
Don't mess with the taxpayers or someone might file a suit!!!
this problem with health care is just getting started. with more and more mexicans pouring into this country daily, its gonna get a whole lot worse.
as far as us footing the bill, NO WAY!! my check has shrunk enough with the millions on welfare that depend on me each week.

keep Grady alive! they may keep you alive!
if we are going to piss a-way tax dollars, may as well piss it a-way for a good cause.

That would make a good bumper sticker or marketing slogan.
If I fail in the free market the Government isn't going to bail my business out, but then again I'm not in the business of patching up wasted human flesh and delivering bastard children into an already dead society of government dependancy. Believe it or not this is the reason for thier troubles. They say you are only as strong as your weakest link (the old chain thing) but I say if there is only one link in the chain endangering the rest of it, cut it out and create a stronger chain whenever you get the chance. The "poor" are the worst disease in America and I'm not talking about people living in true poverty, I'm talking about those who won't do for themselves or thier family and have been taken over by the "poor" state of mind. Wanna talk about burns- they burn my ass every payday. FRONT PORCH JOBS DON"T HAVE BENEFITS!
Rev.MJB- I have managed to piss myself off again, I need therapy. All "poor" people can kiss my ass.
hey,
i just solved the problem of the hungry and the homeless! simply feed the homeless to the hungry, job done.

If you want to talk about wasting tax dollars, let's talk about the billions wasting on a senseless war in Iraq!
I would really rather have the money spent here to help American citizens rather than carry out Bush's stupid vendetta against Sadam!
Of course we need to bail Grady out, but only after it is put under a private board. One of the problems it faces is that it has been like the airport and the water authority in Atlanta in that it was used to give jobs and sweatheart deals to the politically powerful. Get rid of the corruption and costs will drop dramatically. Until then. no bailout.
Not sure why any of you think that closing Grady will reduce the amount of tax dollars you are paying to have the indigent & uninsured treated at Grady. Closing it will only mean those same people will go to another hospital, who is subsidized. You'll probably pay more if its closed due to higher ambulance costs for the indigent.
This is not the first time Grady has had financial problems. The only repairs have been a band aid on sever bleeding. I think that a plan to maintain Grady needs to be constructed, and funding to be charged on a county use of the free service. In other words the county who uses that service the most pay the most.
In addition to being the only Level 1 Trauma Center to serve our area, Grady also houses Georgia's only poison treatment center and one of the best, if not the best, burn unit in this country.
While poor management and care of the indigent (legal and illegal) have strained Grady, the doors to that hospital need to remain open. Indigent care is a strain on all hospitals these days. Not only are the sorry folks of this country without insurance, but there are many, many, many working Americans who can't afford insurance for themselves and their families. I pay $450 per month out of my salary for group health insurance for my family. If I were a single working mother, I may not be able to afford that and keep a roof over my childrens' heads and food in their mouths. Healthcare in this country needs to be a priority.
So I'm sure your on the "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE" band wagon huh?
As if enough illigitimate little bastards aren't gettin my money, now I gotta pay for everybody else who will quit thier job and hang around the front porch when they get free health care. If you think socialized medicine is the ticket please look into it a little further before you cripple our health care all together. Health care is an individual responsibility, please keep the Gov. out of this.
CHILL OUT! A little angry? I didn't say anything about socialized medicine, but I do believe that the BIG MONEY HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES could make insurance a little more afforadble to those of us who work to provide it for our families. The premiums just keep going up and the coverage keep going down. You'd think that if you are covered under your healthcare plan, any service you need would be provided, right? Well, it doesn't happen that way. Get diagnosed with agressive cancer, be treated until your "lifetime limit" is met, and then you are on your own regardless of how much treatment you still need. Not every person who is "in need" is a sorry ass with bastard children. You need to get over your selfish self.
There should be a 'lifetime limit' on welfare, food stamps and SSI benefits for those who have never worked a day in their lives. Then you would see some changes in this country!
Can't argue with that. My position isn't one of support for those too sorry to work.
No tax money or any other funds should be spent until the current management is removed. How did Grady get this bad in the first place? This isn't a new situation; why was it allowed to happen, to get so bad? Those who are in control are stupid & incompetent and must be removed. You can't ask tax payers to bail out a system like this that has been mismanaged. Those managing Grady have their positions only because of political correctness, not because they were ever competent to do the job. Do you think the CEO of any other entity would be allowed to stay if he/she ran the company into the red like this? Of course not. Political correctness has and is ruining everything. This is another instance of blacks in a position of power that they're not competent to do. This has got to stop! It's time to wake up and put a stop to this.
