I think they need an all round school year! It would be like Collage.

The only ones hurt are those trying to work summer jobs.

Most kids now spend all free time inside playing video games or watching TV. The length of the summer break is NOT causing them to miss any life experiences.

I think the kids need a longer break!!

To 12:46 p.m: That's the reason we have children who are fat. Sorry parents allow them to sit on their butts all day and play video games or watch tv. They should be outside playing ball, riding bikes or swimming.

School starts much too early and it is driven by parents who want to have their kids wharehoused so they do not have to be bothered with them, or have them interfere in their careers.

I feel school should start the Tuesday after Labor Day on Monday in September, and end the Friday before Memorial Day in May. They school system can get the required 180 days in, and complete the school year. This would make the emphasis on Academic Excellence easier to accomplish in my opinion.

For those of you that say "kids who play video games or watch tv all day are fat.” Im one of those so called kids, but I'm not fat.

I'm 6 feet tall and weigh in at 160 pounds. No, I’m not 12 or 18. I’m 23 years old and love to play video games and watch TV for most the day. I grew up in the 80’s when video games took off, thanks to Nintendo. I have played games from 3 years of age to now and I have never been over weight.

I guess my metabolism is just perfect.

If you want to help the fat kids. Stress to the schools they need a better P.E. system!

I think we played outside during the summer because we had no AC, no video games, only 3 channels on TV and most importantly, it was SAFE to be outside. Heck, back then we would hitch-hike if our bikes threw a chain or broke a tire. The only rule was to be home for supper.

My son was also in on the video game craze of the '80's but he also had outdoor chores to do and also played with the neighborhood kids now he is lean and mean and a very nice looking man. But look out he's getting into the mid 30's and thats when you really start putting on those extra pounds. But then too I also agree with 2:11 p.m. that kids do not have enough physical activity and when they sit around playing video games and eating unhealthy foods they do tend to be fat. Just look around you there are a lot of fat lazy kids with no respect for anyone.

Yes, it starts too early. I agree that school should revert to starting after Labor Day and ending before or just after Memorial Day as it did back in the day. As far as fat kids go, PE needs to be reinstated. Real PE, where the PE teacher teaches you how to exercise and then makes you do it. Jumping jacks anyone?

It works out perfectly because it has the children sitting in class for the most consecutive days of uninterrupted instruction.

i don't understand why they start so damn early anyway! day after labor day is okay for me. i did it for 12 years and had no problem with it! i don't like the week long breaks every six weeks, it's pointless, you must work your schedule around those breaks, granted the spring break it nice, and the two weeks off at christmas, but a week in nov? a week in feb? i agree with anon 350....

SCHOOL SHOULD NOT START UNTIL AFTER THE SALES TAX HOLIDAY IS OVER.THE PARENTS IN LAMAR COUNTY ARE BEING CHEATED OUT OF A FEW DOLLARS......

It is so hot outside they might as well be in school as opposed to sitting in the house playing video games.

Frankly, from my past experiences, I think that much of school is a waste of time! A lot of sitting around and being bored. I'd like to see the school day shortened. All year round school is a bad idea unless you're going to give the kids more breaks through out the year.

I'm dead serious about this. I'm not trying to be funny. My public school experience was much like that Pink Floyd video of "Another Brick in the Wall". You know "We Don't Need No Education."

The guberment schools are producing slaves and serfs (not free people). Political Science and civics classes at the school is a joke! By the time a kid gets out of the 5th grade he should have large chunks of our Constitution memorized.

That however will never happen because it serves our gubermnet to keep to populace ignorant so that others can have more power.
