were investigators correct in raiding the local vfw club the day before the memorial day weekend or should they have left the old veterans alone?
apparently authorities were tipped to the fact there was liquor at the bar there when the club is licensed to sell beer and wine only?
many think the vets have earned the right to some privacy and say the tipster was a person removed from the club by members for overindulging himself.
what do you think?

Obviously there is some real criminal activity in Barnesville/Lamar County.
Get with the real criminals, leave the Vets along and let them enjoy themselves.
There are enough drug houses in the area to keep our crimefighters busy.
Where do you draw the line at favortism? Does the American Legion post still sell liquor? What about the Crow's Nest? Are all the people who attend the VFW actually vets? I know a couple of people who have gone who aren't. Are the laws not meant to be enforced and who is to decide which ones aren't? If a group of vets started a pedophile club should they be excused? Can vets get away with any crime? I know these are crazy questions but where do you draw the line.

The law is the law. I support and admire our vets, but they are not above the law. And the people running the place aren't either!
Whats the big deal? If the vets would like to sample a little drink, who are you/we to tell them they can't? They deserved it. I am not even going to acknowledge the whole pedophile club BS!!
No one does anything about the sale of hard liquor without a license at The Upper Room so why bother the vets?
I agree the vets do deserve to have a place to go and drink,cook out,dance or what ever.But there is a greedy one or two operating the vfw as if it were their own buisness and taking away some illegal profits including daily illegal gambling profits.I say keep it legal share all the money with all the vets who so deserve it and maybe all will be happy,GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM.

whether the vfw was doing something wrong or not if the pd knew about it back them why did they wait to do something about it now?
everyone seems to go on speculation about what is going on, and some know the truth, who cares if they were gambling was it hurting your tax dollars, you are probably pissed off because they didn't invite you! How many of you out there have friends over and play cards for money, that is gambling isn't it?

I remember the VFW Club from the 50's, 60's and later having Alcohol, by the drink. Raiding them is a joke to me. Some Big named persons of the 50's and 60's could be found out there having a drink. Everyone accepted it, not alot of whining, just knew it was there, and as long as no one got hurt. Who Cared.
Judge E. Byron Smith would throw this crap out of his court and that would be the last of it. Then he would get in his Corvette and go to the VFW for his toddy and tell some good stories.

Well it’s sad but true, the problem with today’s times is that very few people know how to keep their mouth shut when it comes to private issues. There was no reason for anyone to RAT on the goings on of what has been going on for years and years. It’s my opinion they should be tarred and feathered. I remember when grammar school students had to wear tattle tail tags when they told on others. But now since we are headed for some sort of police state culture where people are encouraged to report anything or anybody, therefore lots of good law abiding citizens are getting hassled. I understand some things should be reported but all too often there are those who get a sick sense of power or enjoyment out of tending to others business. These people usually start rumors and exaggerate for reasons unknown by me.

You talk about common sense. Sorry but it is not common sense to pickle your brains in alcohol. My pap used to go to the vfw, come home stewed every night and pick fights with every body. If I had my way that place would have been closed 30 years ago and the building torn down. No one DESERVES a place to go get drunk. They can get drunk at home just as easy. What they were doing was avoiding paying taxes, the same thing every one is up in arms about illegal immigrants.

I support our troops from the present and the past. I'm as patriotic as the next guy. But I don't believe anybody has the right to break laws and endanger other people. Serving our country doesn't give you the right. I don't stick my nose where it doesn't belong any more than you do. I do have a right to an opinion whether it's the same as yours or not. I believe that's what the vets fought for.
Talk about heroes. Our law enforcement personnel are heroes. The most dangerous part of their job; stopping obnoxious drunk drivers on the way home from the VFW.

I think the crime is that we are worried more about a bunch of old vets and their friends and what thay do at their club that sponcer not just vets,but countless other charitys. Not as many as you think and not so much as to protect you but to secure citizenship. Have you served and seen this or is this something you've been told?
I have seen it. Maybe it is to secure citizenship, but it is just as welcome. How many others join just to earn an easy paycheck. Especially the w/e warriors.
No my best subject was not english that why i said I speak AMERICAN and i bet those guys who are trying to get citizenship cant speak english but i also bet when they get to basic they will learn. If they can under stand a D.I. they understand. And if they go to war for my country they should be citizens.
