what do you think about the ag. authority hassle..

read about it here barnesville.com and then respond.

if the land is sold and the proceeds are returned to the public coffers for public projects or the greater good, do you really care?

obviously the approximately half million dollars barnesville was given by the authority should be used for the public good also.

what would you suggest?

do you think an acceptable compromise can be reached?

again, do you care or are bikini contests and american idol of more importance to you?

"It's wrong but it's not illegal." That's what I tell my 19 year old cousin every time we sleep together.

Anonymous said...

these are the kind of things that happen when the people you elect to represent you don't care and try to cheat you. the people must get involved.

wdm said...

Where do you get out of all of this that the local governments are trying to cheat you out of something? The mayor says the money hasn't been touched and assets are still clearly there -- so where do you get someone is trying to cheat or steal or that they don't care.

wdm said...

And secondly, I am always wary of the one person coming forward for all these concerned citizens. I am all over Lamar County and I don't know I have ever heard one person mention anything about the ag authority (never, ever). So this whole "the natives are restless" makes for a good quote in the newspaper but might be a stretch of the truth or at minimum very isolated rumblings.

Anonymous said...

wdm - Because you are in the dark, don't assume everyone else is too.

Anonymous said...

with all this growth and development that barnesville is seeing cant we hang on to it and try to turn a profit with it somehow?

wdm said...

Gmccall -- I wouldn't call it being in the dark. I am making a basic observation. The only two people in Lamar County I have ever heard even mention the ag authority are you and now the librarian. I bet ya'll are buddies aren't you?

Anonymous said...

Why don't the Ag Auth. members comment in public? Seems like they owe the people of Lamar an explanation. Also, they should never be on another committee that has any thing to do with the public if they act in secret. Why haven't they been railroaded or tarred and feathered? Who are the members anyway? They've changed a couple of times.

Let's make it 3 natives who are restless. I was concerned when the authority was created in the first place. There was no place or need for it in a county the size of Lamar. We have now spent much tax money on it and having discovered it was a bust see the politicians haggling over who will get the spoils.I wish we could sell it all and give the money back to the tax payers, but that is no doubt illegal. I predict a new spate of office furniture and vehicle buying is already being planned.

"Wrong but not illegal".....sounds like the "good ol' boys" are still at work on the Lamar Co. Commission.

I know Leeza Woodall was on the Authority at one time, but she was smart enough to git while the gittin was good. I don't know who else was on it.

I would like to respond to wdm. I do not know Gary McCall. I have never met him nor have I ever spoken to him. Assuming that since we agree on an issue we must be buddies is a very narrow minded assumption. Could it be that both Mr. McCall and myself believe that we as citizens in a democracy have the right to ask questions of our elected leaders? I was urged to speak before the commissioners by numerous citizens in the community. Some people choose not to speak in public because of comments like yours. They did not want to subject themselves to criticism from those who do not agree with them or those who do not know the facts about the issue. Why is it that the messenger is usually the one attacked? Please don't be so quick to make assumptions about me or any motives I might have without asking me. I have no reason to be deceptive. I do belong to several citizens groups that have members who are concerned about this issue. It was at their urging that I addressed the commissioners. You can contact me and I will supply you the dates and times that we meet. You would be welcome to come to any of these meetings. So maybe the natives you know aren't restless but the ones I know are. I think most of them would be open to speaking about their concerns with you. I never implied that I spoke for all of the citizens, just those I am associated with. On the issue of the SPOST money, I in no way implied that the money had been touched. I never implied that anyone is trying to cheat or steal. This should be evidenced by being in attendance at the meeting or watching the video of the meeting on Channel 10. The issue here is the right to have an open government where the citizens are allowed to know about decisions that will affect them. I attend every monthly city council meeting. I also am a regular at the county commissioners meetings. I have always felt that I have no right to complain about the "government" if I do not participate in it. I hope that I will not be subjected to more attacks on my motives or integrity because I have exercised my right to express my concerns to a public, elected body. Please respect others rights to work for an open government in our county.

It has been alledged that the AG Board has has meetings with the Board of Education, which were not public. This is something the State Attorney General should be asked to look at to see if there are any improprieties involved.
As far as the money goes that is not an issue as yet. Should the board members, who do not wish to make public statements, and put this matter to bed, need to make a public statement, and act like the persons they claim to be.

Anonymous said...

Beverly Eskridge, I, Gary McCall, thought you (@ 2:43 PM) said that exceptionally well.

wdm said...

Ms. Eskridge, In your blog here you represent yourself as meek and mild. Let me remind you you are quoted in the paper as threatening the county with lawsuit with "no room for compromise." What in the world makes you believe your way is the only way in this ag authority deal. What?? What makes you believe unless it is the way of you and your tribe of restless natives it is not right. If you want open government, that is fine, go ask for it but don't use deceptives measures such as misrepresenting numbers or threatening lawsuits.

You and GMcCall are no George Soros'

Anonymous said...

wdm - you got something right.

I am nowhere close to being the 80th richest person in the world and don't think I ever will be.

If you want to impress people with intelligent BS, why don't you tell the people who he is and why you chose him to make a comparison.

wdm said...

You will not use this medium to forward your personal agenda (at least without me providing some side commentary.) I have read many of your blogs and don't understand why you are so mad at the commissioners? I don't know what they have done to you but you put forth alot of energy in belittling them (the old and the new commish.) I still don't understand what the commission has done or not done that has you and Ms Eskridge so tore up about the Ag Authority. I can see where you would be mad at the school board and the ag authority (if they've been dealing behind doors) but not the commissioners. You have said some pretty nasty things in your past blogs about our local leaders that aren't founded or just.

Anonymous said...

Quit knocking Ms. Estridge. Her only crime is not being from here. Unfortunately there are people in this county who believe that if you were not born here and are not from here, even if you have lived here for 10 or 20 years you have no right to say anything. This is exactly why this is one of the most backward, ignorant, racist and underdeveloped places on the planet.

wdm said...

George Soros for those who don't know is this guy who basically controls American media through supposed citizens watch dog groups. I believe he is head of the top 5 groups. He also, as stated by Mr McCall, is extremely wealthy and apparently, Mr Soros doesn't like our president. So to get to the president he is using his control over billions of dollars to pound Americans daily with juiced up polls, horror stories from Iraq, and a majority of the other negative news you hear such as the depleting ozone, the melting polar cap, immigrants taking over America, and all the other things that are the president's fault. I do also know that he was from Hungary and survived the Holocaust. The reason I compared McCall and Eskridge to Soros is because I see them using our local newspaper and blog forums to forward their personal agendas (whatever it may be.) When I watch the national news and listen to the proganda machine it has become it sickens me because I can say or do nothing. But you dang sure better know I can say something with this blogging.

wdm said...

Ms. Eskridge, I apologize to you if this has gotten personal. I am sure you meant well in your line of questioning at the commissioner meeting but threatening lawsuits is not being friendly.

Anonymous said...

Walter, your apology to Ms. Eskridge is as hollow as a Halloweem pumkin.

Why are they dodging the question about the ag members? Who are they? Are they the county bigs who now don't want to be known?

Anonymous said...

If appears to me the AG Board is alot of people with alot of answers, but none of the questions.
Their names should be made public, and they should account for their actions.

Anonymous @ 10:56: This is the list I had of the members.

Valerie Smith
John Walters
James Blackmon
Tony Bush
Kenny Roberts Jr.
Dick Esco
Dar Bohenstiel
Bobby Ferris

I understand that some of these members are no longer on the authority.

From the minutes of June 1,2006, this is a list of members present. An (*) matches the names above.
This is an important date to remember.

Dane Bishop
* Bruce Akins
* Dar Bohenstiel
* James Blackmon
* John Walters
* Bobby Ferris
Greg Martin

wdm @ 9:58 - tell me what I said that is not founded or just. Go back as far as you would like. I'll try and answer them for you.

Also lets get on even ground. Have the intestinal fortitude to identify yourself on the comments you stand for. Surely if you feel so strongly about something, you're not afraid to let others know who you are. Start setting an example or continue hiding. Your choice.

I wonder why the DA has not requested the Attorney General to look into this matter. It is obvious to me the Sunshine Laws have been abridged. The secret mettings, that are alledged that occured between the AG Board and the Board of Education, should warrant a look by a higher legal authority.

My name is Dean Morgan. I stand behind everything I have written. I have much better things to do with my time than research your previous blogs (this statement from you alone should indicate how far out there you are.) You know you have been talking trash about our elected officials. You also know the county commissioners cannot lower themselves to answer you in a public forum like this. So, in my opinion, it is of weak character to attack someone who cannot properly defend themselves.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:05
If its so bad living here than move, its that simple.
Also, I agree with WDM on people bitching about our leaders when they can't defend themselves. There usually the same people who do nothing for our community yet they fuss about everthing. If you want a say so,then get active and join some civic orginization where you can use your spare time constructivly other than writing on a computer all day.

Let's see: Bruce Akins, Akins Feed and Seed-Rich
Dar Bohenstiel: farmer from Milner- rich
John Walters: pig farmer-rich
Bobby Ferris-Sales manager for Southern Rivers- probably well paid
James Blackmon- city employee-what's he doing there
Dane Bishop- Filthy rich
Dick Esco-Mr. Buggy Days Insurance man-Rich
Kenny Roberts Jr.?- Basketball coach- another head scratcher. He doesn't even live in the county does he?
I don't know about the others but they probably have a good bit of money also. So we know the criteria to be appointed to a committee. No wonder they don't care about the taxpayer's money. They have so much it isn't a big deal to them.

Greetings Mr. Morgan. Happy to see you out of hiding. First you accuse me of making unfounded statements but when ask to identify them; you have better things to do. Secondly, I’m not talking trash about our elected officials. I can’t help it if the truth hurts. I can back-up everything I’ve said. They don’t need to defend themselves. They already have uninformed people defending them. And to another Anonymous in hiding @ 2:25 PM. I ask a question. Do you want honest leadership or are you willing to accept whatever you get, right or wrong?

I’ll tell you what. I’m going to continue identifying big mistakes and turning their nose up at the law, made by our leadership. You continue to defend them. When you prove me wrong, I’ll be happy to admit it.

Good luck.

Local politicians "are happy keeping everyone stupid and in the dark"..."a demonstation of weak and ineffective leadership"..."we have had ineffective leadership long enough" These phrases written by our illustrious GMcCall are from a single blog. This is why I stand up for our local politicians because I have seen times in my life when I thought I knew for certain I was right about something and then found out I wasn't. This could be one of those times for GMac. Remember, nothing has been cheated or stolen from any of you...the city has the money and the assets of the authority haven't been sold off. At least wait until something has actually happened before you start the name calling and inuendos. And GMac, don't flatter yourself into thinking I have been hiding from you...I've been living a life, you should get one and try it.

Anonymous said...

If something is wrong but not illegal, then it is definitely unethical. The Ag members did something unethical. The city did something unethical by accepting the offer. The BOE has done something unethical by discussing it in secret. The County Commission has done something unethical by allowing it to happen and not doing something about it. Doesn't look like anyone in authority in Lamar County or Barnesville has any ethics. Again, it might not be illegal but it's wrong all the way around.

People fear what they don't know or understand. If the people of LC knew what was going on maybe they wouldn't be so upset. It's time somone in authority fully disclosed what's going on. We are not mushrooms and will not be treated as such.

Next election, let's see if we can find anyone with ethics. This bunch obviously doesn't have it. None of them. It will be harder than it sounds. I am truly disappointed in the commission. They haven't shown any backbone or leadership yet.

What the Ag Authority did was NOT LEGAL. Not just wrong but it was ILLEGAL.

Anonymous said...

Gary I think you have way too much time on your hands!

so what's the latest???????on the Ag Board ???

I think we should run some of these people who play with our money out of town on a rail.

How stupid do Jay and the rest think we are???

I thought after Bobby got dumped because of his not doing what is RIGHT for the people, Jay and the rest would be smarter. Of course I knew, like most people, Harwick is beyond repair. But I really did think the change of Bobby would put the rest of the people on their toes, even if Gene Harwick is beyond repair.

Go get them Gary. The only way to make politicians do what is right is to sue them. Don't let the GOB's get you down.

Let's run the people who want to give money put up by the county to the city out of town. We don't need disgusting creeps like that handling our money.

WDM,

As an independent observer of this peeing contest between you and g mccall, I'm disappointed in your responses.

You are using a tactic called an "ad hominem" argument. That's where a debater attacks the messenger rather than disproving the message.

You would score a lot more points with independent observers if you offered something to rebuke what gmcall claims, rather than just telling us all you don't like the other guy so his message must be wrong.

Why not offer something of substance we can all see that proves gmcall wrong? The fact you don't like him doesn't impress me in the least.

I've never spoken to you or anyone else about this, but I'm very concerned about the ag authority and the money taken from county residents. So is my wife, so are my friends. Don't assume because YOU haven't heard anything it means everyone else is happy.

Most people I know either have an unfavorable impression of this deal or haven't heard about it. There isn't anyone I know who knows about the ag authority who thinks they did the right thing.

Rather than attack gmcall on a personal level, disprove what he says.

Regards,
Tom Rauch

Please allow me to add to what Tom Rauch said to wdm.
wdm - if you prove that I have commented wrong, I'll be more than happy to admit it. I'm not making comments because I dislike someone. I'm commenting on things that are wrong and need an immediate fix. Perhaps you can tell me why our leadership turns a blind eye to things that have been brought to their attention that are wrong or against the law even?
