Wow! My hometown is on the move. I applaud Mr. Bell (my former principal) for truly moving this small town forward. I was waaaay past due for new blood to come in and get the momentum flowing. He has instilled so much pride in the city and this is to be applauded. Kudos to those who worked behind the scenes to see this come to fruition. Barnesville is coming out of the dark!!!
It's so pretty.
WHAT KINDA WARRANTY DOES IT GOT?
10 YEARS/100,000 MILES?
Sorry to "pop your bubble" Julia; but it was not anything to do with Mr. Bell's doing even though he is a very fine gentleman, this credit should go to the Industrial Development Authority. The IDA has been working on this project for a period of time.
I don't care what anyone thinks. I think this is a great leap forward between people. China and Mr. Chen is giving something to us all. Thanks -
What a tremendous venture for Barnesville and Lamar County. To those people who worked diligently to bring this new industry to town a big thank you. I am glad they see and recognize how much Barnesville has to offer new industry. What a great thing to be able to offer jobs to people. Thomaston is drying up and losing its industries while Barnesville sees many things on the horizon. Maybe we should be the one with the Wal-Mart and nice restaurants.
Nice development for Barnesville. Kudos to those that were instrumental in bringing this deal about. Barnesville DOES not need a Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is corporate bully that uses all kind of tax breaks and drains local economies.
Amen - we NEVER need a Wal-mart. They will kill a town's businesses one by one - then abandon their huge buildings and move on to a new area. They are not good for a city's economy in the long run... ever. Look at what they have done to the cities/towns around us... Wal-mart just posted record losses.. I think many people have had enough of the corporate giant...
I am excited about this new growth in Barnesville. It will have a trickle down effect on everything we have... schools, stores, and local businesses. You will find in the next few years our local businesses will be forced to step up to a higher standard or be replaced. If you own land here... hold on tight... you are sitting on a pot of gold.
Target, then?
TARGET, now there is an idea!
Come on people....we have a Roses now. What else could you want?
I DO get tired of driving all the way to Macon or Jonesboro just for my Target fix....
PLEASE!!!! No Target or Walmart. It is worth the drive to Macon or Jonesboro to keep Barnesville downtown merchants in business. Downtown Barnesville needs to grow more in the manner it has been the last two years. Barnesville is unique. A Target or Walmart means and empty Main Street ( or Thomaston and Forsyth Street. Let's grow with retail and figure out where to get additional parking for more merchant growth.
I give Mr. Bell credit for not stepping in the way of development. The 30 years that Mayor Matthews was in office, Barnesville had nothing going for itself. Just a bedroom community. Mr. Bell is a forward thinking, progressive leader and his leadership is to be applauded.
it is finaly time barnesville started moving forward. since a certain someone is not standing in the way of progress barnesville has really started growing. But i can't say that it is because of the mayor.
Yellowrose....
I would shop downtown more if they had what we need! I dont need antiques, or over priced clothes that fit ONE style of persons.
How many "dollar" stores does one town need? When do we get a place that will sell QUALITY items geared for every lifestyle?
It's still hard for me to believe we have a town where the car dealers are closed when I get off of work, where I cant buy a 2x4 after 12:00 on saturdays, and I need to drive to another county just to purchase quality shirts and pants that are my style, not made three sizes to big so it will hang off my rear!
Why is it hasrd for the life long Barnesvillians to allow business to come to town?
anonymous 11:00 am, you are correct. Convenience of shopping does need to accommodate buyers with jobs out of town. I just hope that Barnesville will have a plan and move slowly. I would hate to see Downtown Barnesville being made up of empty storefronts. I have seen too many Main Streets of towns throughout the South and Southwest become tumbleweed towns. The community becomes suburbs along the freeway for the closest major city.
can we open breezy point bar again?
saki anyone? tsingtao? shine likker?
