We've got a commie China facility coming into Barnesville (definitely progressive no matter how you see it) and in the same week decide its not in the best interest of citizens to watch a bikini contest (that took us back to the stone age). Now that makes a hella- va- lotta sense. Greet a Communist country in the front yard and kick one of your small business owning and tax paying citizens in the teeth in the back yard. If you have a problem with a bikini contest then don't come watch and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't dare enter the competition, NO ONE wants to see your pale- pastie- wrinkled body anyways! And I know you are pale because you have been living under a rock for the last 25 years or so. I can't wait until these type of people are in the Nursing Home drooling on themselves because people like me are going to do the unthinkable- TAP INTO OUR RESOURCES- just like when everybody whines and belly aches about oil prices, but just can't take drilling in the US coast lines or Alaska, we in Barnesville try to find ways to better the community and better serve the people but just really can't figure out what to do! Give the Gordon College students a place to go! We are a college town and we need to start acting like it, if a student wants to spend mom & dad's money on whiskey and women- PAY US, WERE RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF YOU! If you can't handle that then- MOVE OUT OF THIS COLLEGE TOWN- imagine the jobs that can be created if you loosen up on business that wants to cater to these students. More restaurants and maybe even a REAL bar that doesn't have to serve food. Just wait you pale, frail, pastie cry babies, you'll eventually die and we'll be starting HAPPY HOUR and reaping the profits. CAPITALISM IS GREAT! EMBRACE CHANGE OR REALIZE YOUR OLD AND SENSELESS!
Rev.MJB- BIKINS SAVE LIVES- prove me wrong stupid!

all those religious waco's that complained about a bikini contest run right out of the church doors and take their kids home and turn them loose at the movie or rent movies were people chop one another to pices or shoot people, blow things up or let them play thier stupid video games death doom blood guts gore everywhere but god forbid someone watch a lady in a bikini or watch a lady take their cloths off for money, which do you think leads to a corrupted mind?

You know MJB, you might be right. 40 years ago they didn't allow drinking wiskey or girlie shows or anything else that YOU might consider fun. Of course the crime rate was a lot lower. Road rage was unheard of. Drugs were something only beatniks used. And there weren't many of them.
Life was simpler but very enjoyable. You didn't feel all stressed to have a good time. Most folks didn't get too mad when they were told no. Of course kids did. Some adults still do.
Life has changed. Not for the better. Everything is faster paced. Everybody expects everyone else to do for them. Nobody wants to give an inch. We have to be first, loudest, meanest, rudest.
Eventually adult entertainment will come to Barnesville. And everyone will lose a little something good. Crime will continue to rise and we will blame everyone else.
We took the Bible out of schools, the ten commandments from the public domain. Killing babies is now a way of life. Pedophiles are coming out of the woodwork. Pornography is every where. Marriages don't last more than a wink. And think, ten or twenty years from now, these will be the good old days.
MJB, you're such a whiner and complainer. I'm glad I don't know who you are. I would be very disappointed if you were someone I thought anything about.

anon 4:47 i'v been around a lot longer than 40 years and i know for a fact that wiskey and women and drugs have always been around and always wiil be you can place the cause of higher crime and viloence on the shoulders of originised religion preaching "turn the other cheek" "dont spank the childern" "forgive" when we should have been stomping mudholes in the criminals locking them up and throwing away the key instead we say its allright just come to our church ask forgiveness and your crimes are all washed away a giant load of BULL BUTTER is what that is

Anonymous said...

Religion is not the cause of today's mess. If anything it is exactly the opposite. Liberals tell us we can't execute criminals. Liberals tell us we can't treat criminals like criminals. Liberals tell us we can't pray in public. Liberals tell us that it is a crime to even think bad thoughts about homosexuality. Liberals tell us that free speech is only for certain groups but not for everyone. Liberals tell us it is bad to spank a child. Not religion. Religion says to spare the rod is to harm the child. Liberals tell us that everyone is ENTITLED to the good life whether you work for it or not. (welfare) A free gift society is the cause of higher crime rates. Not religion.

Anonymous said...

"Liberals tell us we can't pray in public" statements like this just go to so how religion warps the mind

Anonymous said...

"Pedophiles are coming out of the woodwork" they have always been here but the thing you need to look into is what % of the preachers and preist are caught sexually assualting childern in relation to the general population?studies show that most Pedophiles were raised in strictly religious homes, kind of scary isn't it?

How are we going to support the needs for all the law enforcement officers in the future with no increasing source of revenue? Crime will always go up due to POPULATION INCREASE, not just because of what that city caters to, so this will be an issue eventually. Do we raise taxes on the citizens to make up for this unavailable money, I sure hope not, so what should we do? Should we ask for business to come in here and make themselves at home, now your talking some sense. Should we only except industries- here is the problem. Wouldn't it make more sense (if we are so damn determined to put all our eggs in one basket) to gamble on the future of the City Of Barnesville with a sure fire way to meet its needs by meeting the needs of Gordon College and its students. You don't have to have a Strip Club to do this, but these are young people looking for a place to spend their college years and countless dollars on the school best suited for them. Right now Gordon Students don't care to be in Barnesville after school because there is nothing for them and there is no push what so ever in this community to meet these needs. You may be morally against a lot of things and that is your choice, but you have to be a fool not to see this stack of dollar bills that could be used to fuel the city being waved in your face every day. If this town does not grow to meet the needs of Gordon Students, then Gordon Students aren't going to need this town. Supply and demand- They are demanding but we ain't supplying! There was no better way to show our non support of Gordon Students than by not allowing a bikini contest- which is NOT adult entertainment because you are not bearing breasts or showing any other region that is a NO-NO. People are going to keep moving here, working out of town, shopping out of town, but they will still need our law enforcement and other services without putting into the system. Yes, I know they will pay property tax and such, but I think these are high enough as is without having to make up for the population increase, without the population increasing the cities pocketbook. Makes no sense at all. Also if you would have never walked under the banner stating "Bikini Contest" outside this bar and grill and never had a seat inside this bar and grill and never stayed in there long enough to see the first bikini wearing contestant then this would have effected you ab-so-lute-ly-none! So who is the true whining complainer here, me or you!
Rev.MJB
And as for the Bible in schools, what are you going to think when they put a Koran right beside that Bible, that would be the only constitutional way to do that. I would rather go without all that and just teach my kids right from wrong in my own home, plus imagine how bad public schools would screw up the Bible, look at what they do to education and that's what they are paid for!
Also I wouldn't mind knowing you because if all your around is the same people with the same ideas then you won't be able to grow as a person period.

it wont take long before this to will go the way that yamaha did,the asian work ethic is very high as the local work ethic is "the world owes me something" it wont take these people long and they will see the error in their decission and take their operation back across the ocean and you will have another empty building in lamar co

It's true, there are a few pedophiles who are priests and preachers. There are a few who are teachers and coaches, also. Seems like a lot more women than there used to be. We hear about them because they are responsible for our children. I would think the % would be higher among the general public just because there are more people there.
And I pray in the public all the time. I probably pray for some of you without knowing it.
I have said for years that there needs to be entertainment for the college students. A bowling alley or cinema or game room. Something that would cater to the almost adult, since Georgia says they have to be 21 to do anything but have sex and vote. Most Gordon students are 18 to 20 years old.
If all you can suggest is a bikini contest (that's not much fun without beer) then you're wasting valuable brain tissue. If you are as highly intelligent as you think then you can come up with something better than that. The problem is most of these college kids don't have a lot of extra cash. There was a game room right where the lie-brary is now but the college kids didn't spend enough there to keep it open. Just us local kids.
Church is always a good place to meet other young adults. It's better than hanging out on the street corner. It's better than the t.v. of today too. I know some of you won't like that but the fact is it's true.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you. The majority of college students are under 21. Now if it were a 4 yr college and the students were older, then yes there could be a lot of money made.

wdm said...

All the owner of the bikini contest place has to do is sue the city. They can't keep him from having girls walking around in bikinis. Now if there is more to it than just a bikini contest maybe it's a different ballgame.

The generation of today walks around in a bubble like no one else exixt except for them and what they want. Wake up and get over yourself realize that there are other people in this world with feelings. A wet t-shirt or a bikini coontest is not wrong to be seen. Just look at how the girls run around half naked anyway, what's the difference. If you got it flaunt it. I am 52 years old and I could probably still enter the wet t-shirt contest because my boobs don't hang to my knees. And I am not overweight.

God says spare the rod spoil the child. He meant for the children to be taught right from wrong without hurting them or abusing them. Nowadays spare the rod spoil the child means let them get away with everything, not teach them right from wrong, that it is okay to commit crimes because we won't punish you. We now have a gereration of WIMPS!!! That get all out of control if something don't go their way and shoot innocent people because I was raised that way.

Anonymous said...

Ok lets settle this....was it truly just a bikini contest? Were thongs allowed? were they just going to walk out on stage or were they suppose to dance? For some reason I dont think it would be as innocent as portrayed. Maybe I am just stupid, but I dont think so. Basically, what I am asking is What were the guidelines for entering this contest?

Anonymous said...

Is it an adult establishment or a family resturant. I was told that only adults could come in after 10pm....is this true? You are complaining about the college kids not having anything to do...if they are under 21 they cant drink, so you wont make money on alcohol sales. Really all you have is the crowd that hangs out at Milanos every nite cause they have nothing better to do.

Anonymous said...

No kids of any age group have anything to do in this town, never have. They all have to go out of town to movies, bowling, skating, etc. I am going to open a skating rink and bowling alley.....bet that will make more money that girls dancing around half naked...

wdm said...

And the most interesting thing of all is the headline for this topic is "chinese delegation in b'ville."

Anonymous said...

Lord help us! We have strayed away from the topic. Shame on us. But really what is the big deal? The girls walk on the streets with very skimpy clothes what are the guys going to see that they don't see already for free. As for nothing to do for the young kids when I was a child we didn't have to run the streets of town for entertainment we could always creat some kind of entertainment for ourselves. That is what is wrong with today's society the parents let their young daughters run the streets til all hours of the night not knowing what they are up to and then they want to press charges on the guy for taking what is freely given.
Where are the parents of these young girls why are the young girls not at home where any 13 thru 16 year olds should be.

Anonymous said...

18 to 20 year olds like to dance and other things, but when someone tries to do somethimg for these people you just run them out of town. If you were not going to be in the bar when the contest happened it would not hurt you anyway. I'll just spend my money in Macon or Griffin were its ok to be young!
Just to let you know Gordon students do wish there was something to do.

Anonymous said...

I would like to know what city ordinance we have that addresses bikini contests and on what grounds our local law enforcement put an end to it.

Anonymous said...

No one said Gordon students dont need something to do....I said they are probably under 21 and cant buy beer.I thought the students were out for the summer anyway and most have gone to their homes. Talking about kids runing the streets, I dont know about that but, I know a lot of grown men that need to get a life and grow up.

Anonymous said...

65 to 70% of our college students are under 21, that is true from what I have seen on a website. That leaves another 30% that are legal age and I'm sure these people have friends that wouldn't mind coming around if we would cut them some slack. I know a lot of grown men who need to parent their children and not worry so much about grown men and how they choose to live their own lives, I also enjoy having a few drinks at Milano's and the Lie-brary when ever in the hell I choose to. Now if you would like for me to find something better to do then come join me at the bar and I'll point and laugh at you- This is great exercise from what I hear. When I get done drinking, as an Individual Free American can do, I will go home- with the help of a DD if necessary, and get some rest so I will be ready for Sunday service if I choose to go. I would also like to add that I personally would like a place to go for Adults above 18 around here so that I don't have to worry about offending kids if I am trying to socialize with my friends over a few beers. This is my city also. Times have changed, college kids have more money and if you don't believe me then look at the cars these people drive, they leave every single weekend and go somewhere else to have fun, just to let you know a lot of people under 21 go to clubs and bars to dance and flirt- but you wouldn't know now would you! It'll come, it just takes time.
Rev.MJB- No bikinis in B-ville and ROCK-N-ROLL IS THE DEVILS MUSIC!!

When are the religious fundies going to learn that it isn't their job to play parent to other people's children that either live here, or are here for school? If you don't like bikini contests, don't go. If you don't want your daughter in one, or son attending one, that is your perogative. But do not force your "morality" on others. Just because its a sin in your eyes, doesn't make it illegal. That bikini contest would have had no negative impacts on anyone and, to my knowledge, would have broken no laws. (I am still waiting on someone to inform me on the city ordinance that was broken)

You can't force the young crowd to spend their time and money only on things that you see as good wholesome fun. If they want good wholesome fun, there are plenty of youthgroups in the area and I am sure Rock Springs would welcome them with open arms. But if they want to party on a friday night, get drunk, make bad decissions, hook up with the winner of the bikini contest, and then laugh about it the next day, then who are you to use our local, and sometimes ill advised, government to force them to do otherwise. If you think its such a great idea to have a "cinema, bowling alley, or game room", then open one....put up, or shut up. The owners of the Lie-brary thought their money would be better invested in opening a bar and grill and didn't ask whether or not you and your "moral compass" agreed. Let them worry about whether or not the students will spend their money, or if they are of legal age to do so. If they serve underage, there are penalties. If noone goes, they will go out of business. But until you are part owner of their business, you have no say-so in how it is ran. And if they want to have a bikini contest to attract a crowd and get some interest in the place, it is their money and their business and the girls participating and patrons watching are doing so of their own free will.

If you don't agree with what they do, don't go. You and your entire church can boycott the place, but please shut up about this.

its over...get over it.

Anonymous said...

I dont belong to any church...I just like seeing how many ways you can rationalize things.

wdm said...

Rev MJB this question is for you. I heard through the local grapevine all the girls coming were employees at an Atl strip club and more was in store than just a bikini contest. Is there any truth to this?

Anonymous said...

Anon 5:15, I would like to see you rationalize your stance in just one way. By what rationalization do you see it fit to use the police to stop someone from doing something you don't agree with?

Anonymous said...

There are plenty of places to take you kids other than a bar and grill. You know by the title that it is a place where they serve alcohol and if you don't want your kids exposed, then stay away. Come on now girls run around half naked on the streets so why not let the place make a little profit from it?
I don't feel we should cater to kids all the time. I don't like going to a restaurant or any other place where the kids are being disruptive, believe it or not some people don't enjoy listening to kids having a temper tantrum and you buying them something just to placate them they need to learn the meaning of NO! And if they show their temper then take them out of the store and teach them to be more polite and respectful.
