rudy's house of bbq...

would you rather see it become a pubic building - like a milner library for the taxpayers to upkeep - or return to private sector as an ongoing enterprise so it can generate property tax, sales tax and perhaps additional revenues from the by the drink sales of beer and wine?

milner's city administrator and county commission chairman jay matthews seems to favor the revenue generation route.

In my opinion, this is an opportunity to fullfill several aims that Milner has. This would make a great Library, City Hall and Police Station, and all three, I believe can function in a location of that size. Would save the Tax Payers alot of money building those facilities later.

Generate revenue - create jobs - reduce taxes.

Put it on the market and allow our system to work. It will be sold to an entrepreneur or to a corporate group that will find a use for it. It is a great building and lot with good visibility so let the market dictate what will happen. Be faithful.

It can be a very successful business even without alcohol sales. There are plenty of good restruants around that don't serve alcohol. What they need is good food and good service. Look at the catfish houses that are packed every weekend. They aren't the easiest to get to and the facilities aren't necessarily the classiest, but they serve good food and have friendly service. No alcohol. Buckners and the Garden Patch seem to do good business without alcohol.

Alcohol is just a crutch for those who can't make it on their own. Business wise or personally.

Sell it to someone who will open a bar.

Noone asked your opinion on alchohol sales. If you don't want to drink, don't. Why do you care if a restaurant serves me a beer?

If they turn it into a library I'm going to sit in front of it and drink beer in full all out protest. A library would never produce the revenue an eatery could, seriously.
Also if you don't like people drinking then don't go to places that serve alcohol. I will back you on this decision b/c I don't want you hangin around me and my other God fearing friends with a bad case of the butthole lips while we try to relax and have some drinks. You should probably try this havin a few drinks thing, its actually fun. U LIKEY DA FUN?

How bout our own strip club and casino. Enough room across the street for a no-tell motel and package store. Surely the #1 political man could arrange the new businesses to operate without having to pay any taxes. If we play our cards right we might be able to get our own reality TV show started too.

Sounds like this place has a bunch of drunken rednecks. Or just drunk skunks. Must be a nice to place to call home, if you don't mind the mudslinging and backstabbing. Yahoo!

One thing about commercial property is it comes with a certain population base. Just about every business trade group can tell you the exact population required within a 10 mile radius of a business to determine success or not. The best use of the building really comes down to what the City of Milner is looking for as far as future growth. I can clearly see where making the building a public's use project would make alot of sense to everyone involved.

I'm not against alcohol per se. I am against the abuse of alcohol. Many people can control their drinking, but many cannot. Drunken drivers kill five times as many Americans each year than have been killed in Iraq in 4 years. How many more close calls have there been?
Drinking is fun but it comes with consequences. You say I can control my drinking. What will you say when you kill someone with your car? "Oh! I didn't mean to. My bad. I'm sorry" Most people who fail sobriety tests don't think they're drunk.
When you lose someone to a drunk driver who was just out having fun, why don't you get online and tell every one how good it feels and how that good ole boy was just having fun. Right Rev MJB? It's the fun thing to do.

It is possible to drink and not drive...I promise....I refuse to drive even if I've only had one drink 2 hours prior to going home. This is my choice and I think it is possible to drink and be responsible. What about all the car accidents caused by people on their cell phone, or people not paying attention? Should we make it illegal to have cell phones in general? Should Milner not sell cell phones at all because of the possibility of danger involved?

9:28 is correct. More and more studies show that cell phones are as dangerous as booze for drivers. While there are many who are sincere in their opposition to drunk driving, most are merely using it as a Trojan horse for their religious agenda. Why is it that we would yell and scream if someone said all women had to wear veils in public because a distinct religious minority wanted it, but we have to put up with legal restrictions on alcohol that were put in place and defended by another religious minority, Christan fundamentalists?

Give you an inch and you will take a mile! The original post had absolutely nothing to do with driving, it had all to do with drinking and having a good time. What if you looked at how many people are out on any particular Friday night drinking and compare that to how many people are dead Saturday morning. I am not aware of this ever being actually looked into, but considering how many times I've done it and was still alive the next morning, I would say that drinking is very safe. Until they prove that drinking breaks you out into a bad case of tha "I GOTTA DRIVE SOMETHIN' TONITE", we can't presume these things.
If you lost someone to a drunk driver then take it out on drunk drivers not on us drunks!
PS- We probably don't even have a license.
PSS- I truly am sympathetic for you if you have lost someone to a stupid thing like driving drunk, now that I truly mean. Drunk driving is not a game by any means and there needs to be tougher laws against it.

If you ever ate at Rudy's before $hit went down, it was pretty pricey.
If you have been to either Milano's or Lie-brary. Then you must agree that they are too pricey, and need a good bit of competition. There would be nothing wrong with putting in a bigger more appealing bar and grill in Milner. This would utilize the space and equipment that is already there with out selling or spending any more money than needed.
LC needs something with a big dance floor and a place to have fun. The best place for it would be the old Rudy's. I have noticed some places, like the paintball. But we need more! Come on we are a college town! How about some mini putt, or go kart track? A bowling alley maybe...
So many options, so many people with comments to put you down... Are we afraid of expansion?

Anon 4:49,
I agree with you! Use it for something that "most" people will enjoy! I dont think anyone will go to hell for having a little fun. A library, I think, is a bad idea. I wont get much use. Use it for something that is going to generate money and that might provide a little entertainment for people. For all you people against the sale of alcohol, do you realize how many people travel out of town on the weekends to go to clubs or nice resturants??? Well it is a lot. These same people have to drive home. I havent heard of any drunk driving fatalities is the area lately.

Milner doesn't need a library.

Turn it into a brothel!

I think it should be turned into a meth lab. Meth labs provide jobs to mexicans. They can also explode.
