one lifeflighted after wednesday afternoon crash...

at intersection of grove street and highway 341.

one person, clayton sharpe, was lifeflighted to atlanta medical center after the four vehicle crash which occurred about 4 p.m. sharp was reported to be in good condition this morning.

would we be better off if all intersections with 41/341 were four-way stops? at least if folks hit each other they would be moving more slowly?

That would be a traffic disaster. People just need to be more careful.

Try a traffic light!

Maybe we need to focus on the IQ levels of drivers. Since the blind bus driver that was from Ohio ran through an obvious intersection and killed those baseball players, people now want to pin the faults of drivers on the highway dept. and state. It won't be long know before thousands of tax dollars are spent on accidents just to prove the driver wasn't paying any attention- oops- they all ready do that!
Your tax dollars NOT at work again.

My nephew was KILLED at this intersection on his 13th birthday. The grass was too tall to see over coming from the Barnesville side and his mother pulled into the path of an oncoming van. We contacted the DOT about having a light and we were told that there had not been enough deaths to warrant a redlight. HOW DAMN MANY DO YOU NEED??? We also asked about the tall grassy median and could not get a clear cut answer but the grass got clear cut the very next day. So DOT I say to you "PUT UP A LIGHT, THE LIFE YOU SAVE MAY BE YOURS OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE"

They do need to keep the grass cut, but if people would pay attention to what they are doing then wrecks would not happen there. I drive that hwy twice a day and always slow down when I see someone at that intersection. I just dont understand.

How did 4 cars wreck?

Anon 2:26 what you say makes alot of sense, but you can be as careful as possible...That don't mean the other idiots on the road are going to do the same, I agree a traffic light would probably be best.

In order to get a traffic light there has to be more than enough traffic to justify it. If there is not enough traffic that comes off Grove St, then there will be no use for a traffic light.
I don't understand it either for the death's thing. Look at the intersection of Hwy 36 and Hwy 41. I am kinda glad they finally did something about it, but I don't think that was enough. That is one intersection that needs a light!
The people that turn left on to Grove St, think they can just turn and not yield to the traffic that maybe topping that hill.
Like some of you have mentioned, people need to pay more attention to the road, than their cell phone, their radio, or their boyfriend or girlfriend in the seat next to them.
They really need to ban the use of cell phones while driving in GA!
PAY ATTENTION to the road, and accidents like this won't happen!

People are in too big of a hurry and dont use common sense! They would rather pull out in front of someone that to wait until the traffic goes by. People are idiots. I just passed on one the way home. He was probably 110 yrs old doing 35 mph on the hwy. Old people cause wrecks too. When they cant see and cant hear...its time to take away their license.

6:42 pm you won't feel that way when it is your turn to be the old man behind the wheel. Yes old people go too slow but that does not mean that they should not be allowed to drive.

I feel a light is necessary at that location. The speeds on 341 are reaching a higher level at that location. I wonder what it will be like when the bypass is finished. Probably alot of wrecks with the increase in traffic

People have never payed attention at that intersection as long as I have lived in Barnesville (35 years). People on Grove street don't think they need to stop most of the time, there in a hurry to go nowhere!! I don't really like the intersection cameras but that is one intersection that could use one! Maybe it would stop some people from running the stop sign there.

Anon 9:41,
35 mph on a hwy is a little more than going slow. When I am that old, I will not drive because I would not want to be responsible for killing someone else.... I am not saying all old people so dont get your panties in a wad.

Pay attention when driving - if you aren't paying attention, you will not notice a red light and still cause an accident.

Anonymous said...

Also if you pay attention, you are watching all the people that are on the road with you...Its called defensive driving. Its not rocket science!

From the picture, it looks like kids were involved in this wreck or caused this wreck.

At least the ambulance doesn't have far to go.

heh, my mother taught me to drive like everyone else who were driving were idiots...i guess it helped because i have been driving for 12 years and have never had an accident (knocks on wood...) :)

In town 35 miles per hour is the speed limit. Old people who are still mentally and physically capabile deserve to drive. Its the golf carts that slows down traffic.

Anonymous said...

When are we going to realize this is not Peachtree City and ban those golf carts. Hope it is before some child is killed.

Anonymous said...

mentally and physically...thats the key words! Let them drive the golf carts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was involved in an accident at this intersection a few years ago. It has been the only car accident I have ever been in and there is no amount of defensive driving that can prevent an accident when someone runs a stop sign and hits the front side panel of your car. I agree that people need to pay attention to the road, but that means everyone must pay attention and obey traffic laws- and thats never going to happen. People run those stop signs all the time, they need to increase police presence on the Hwy in order to prevent speeding and to make people stop and think about getting a ticket before running the stop signs.

Anonymous said...

Well if you try to increase Police presence then you will have half the town calling and crying about it being a speed trap.

Anonymous said...

Thats the truth!

If people would take those cell phones out of their faces and pay attention to the road and traffic they could avoid a lot of the accidents that happen at that intersection and a lot more places. It seems like people can't live without the phones stuck to their faces. There really should be a law banning the use of any type of communication apparatus's in vehicles it is just too much of a distraction.

Anonymous said...

Are you talking about CB radios too?

Anonymous said...

If they are a distraction, then yes, if you are not a policeman, sheriff or any type of legal person that needs that type of communication they why do you need to be talking all of the time?

Anonymous said...

Put spikes in the middle of the intersection, then set the whole thing on fire, and let the midgets and mexicans fight for intersection supremacy.

Anonymous said...

Maam,
My teamster contract says I'm allowed to have a CB radio. If It don't this truck don't move!

Anonymous said...

excuse me for saying all vehicles it should have been said like this cb radio's and cellphones should be banned in all vehicles that are not work related or law enforcement. I realize that 18 wheeler's have to have them. But it galls me to be behind or beside of someone that has a cellphone stuck in their face not paying attention to where they are going and be in the wrong lane to turn and then they expect you to stop and let them cut in front of you. PAY ATTENTION!!!

Are you that lady in the little white car that I run off the road on 341 while talkig on my cell phone the other day? If so sorry for the hand jester!

Anonymous said...

No I am not the little old lady in the white car. I am the white woman in the pickup truck who is paying attention.
