global warming: fact or fiction....

al gore says its all our fault and got his very politically correct oscar for his documentary 'an inconvenient truth'.

some scientists disagree - greenland actually cooled during the 20th century, they note - and a few say those disputing gore et. al. are being blacklisted.

nigel calder, former editor of new scientist magazine: "governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. einstein could not have gotten funding under the current system."

richard lindzen, professor of atmospheric science at mit: "scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their funds disappear, their work derided and themselves labeled as industry stooges."

what do you think?

I find that based on a few clues, Global warming has happened before.
Anyone who has ever investigated the Sand Pits at Roberta GA will learn that Sharks Teeth are being found there all the time. I guess the ocean at one time came up to Roberta or further. Good sign of what is being said about Global Warming today. I think it is a scare tactic, but it is a thing that will happen, not because of the scare tactics, but a natural act.

Al Gore is a known liar (invented the internet). The man will lie about one thing why not others. Several of the scientist at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) say that it is cyclical. Not due to anything special. But again, that is not the liberal medias' position so therefore it does not receive air time like Gore, who is a liberal darling. The warming that resulted in the ocean coming up to Roberta happened way before man came on the scene. So how can they blame it on us?

i wish that the ocean would come up to roberta again, beach front property in lamar would be great! everyone join me and lets make this, friday april 6 "National Let Loose a Can of Freon" day. yall meet me at the beach soon!

Until they can accurately forecast the weather for the next 7 days, there is no way one should believe any group of scientists, whether they are believe in global warming or not. Keep in mind that from 1938-1975, the planet went through a period of global cooling, where many scientist predicted another ice age.

Bottom line - Even the "experts" are guessing.

The world was once flat and everyone believed it. The Earth was once the center of the universe and everyone believed it. So, are we experiencing global warming today?

What difference does it make? No one cares or wants to admit the possibility exist because they may have to change their life style. If it is ever proven, it will likely be too late to turn things around and everyone will just die.

Global warming is beyond by education level. However, if even the most remote possibility exists, we should start working for solutions now.

I think it's ironic when you think about all those stupid people from long ago are now being studied in our history books now. Turns out they weren’t so stupid after all.

The snow is melting in the Swiss Alps, and that isn't a repeat of history. The North Pole and South Pole have not had a warming trend like this in recorded history.

Europe has never had storms like this for such a long period.

In the 50's and earlier we has a snow blanket in the northern USA that lasted from November or December until late February or March, but it is long gone. Most ski areas in the Great Lakes area that used to be open from November until March are now open only a couple weeks.

NASA agrees the atmosphere and global weather is changing more than ever before and at a significantly more rapid rate to a higher temperature, and we can already see the effects.

The earth is a complex balance of energy absorbed from the sun and energy re-radiated back into space by infrared emissions. We were given this ONLY planet that had the proper dynamic balance between energy absorbed and energy radiated into the black-body of space to maintain a livable temperature, and we have now seriously altered the ratio of carbon dioxide to oxygen in the air we breathe.

The actual measurable content of gasses that thermally isolate the earth from the sky has drastically changed. That’s a fact.

The Bush administration intentionally changes and manipulates the data presented to the people, and that’s also a fact.

About 20-30% of the American population will blindly follow the party line of the single worse administration we have ever had, but the other 70-80% (including people like me who initially voted for this dishonest administration) are willing to admit we were wrong and our great political system is full of liars and cheats. We are willing to understand and admit Bush is among the worse presidents ever in history, especially when dealing with our environment and our middle class.

Good luck to the other 20-30% who cling to the “party line”. Good luck to your grandchildren as they try to recover from the mess Bush has made of things!

Anonymous said...

Well said, 6:40. It amazes me that some people still believe Bush is doing a good job. You're right...it's going to take a long time to recover from this mess.

Anonymous said...

Get off your Bush bashing. History will show that he is no worse or better than past or future presidents. Blaming one man or one admininstration for something that has been going on for years is just assinine. It is easy to lay the blame on current events but that is not the real truth. Believing the lies of either party or any media is futility in itself. No one yet has come up with a viable solution to the problem other than to stop doing what we're doing. No one agrees on the solution. Nuclear energy, too dangerous. Biofuels, not efficient yet. Solar power, too costly and again not efficient. Same thing with wind and tidal power. We can and will fix this but it will not be done over night, and blaming anyone is typical rhetoric. Ridiculous.

Bush isn't responsible for global warming. You must have your head in the sand though, if you can't see what a mess he's made of just about everything else...

Why wait for history to be written? He is the dumbest president we've ever had. End of story.

Now the people of Earth have truly lost their minds. How could a Pres. of only 7 years and Pres. only in the USA control all the pollution in the whole world and throughout all of history?
Until scientists prove why the planet Mars is experiencing higher temps I am willing to bet that this is false.
Now I didn't just say Yatesville or Aldora is going through a higher temp cycle, I said Mars!
I have seen some cars that have had some very poor Emissions but ain't no blown rings in no Pontiac gonna raise the temp on a planet as far away as Mars is it?........I've got it! Pres. Bush is planing on assassinating the O-Zone and the Mudda Pukin' Milky Way so that he can stick cigars up chunky martians butts in the Oval office with out anyone knowing!

While not responsible for creating the problem, Bush is totally responsible for the misinformation being dispersed about global warming and numerous other problems caused by his administration.

His administration commissioned a study of global warming and when the very people his administration sent out to look at the problem came back with a report saying it was definitely a problem and required action, his staff members edited the reports by changing statements. This is public information, it isn’t hidden. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to find it and understand it. You only have to be interested.

Bush has ordered many other agencies to disregard what is good for the masses in the name of business interests.

One area I know about first hand is the FCC. I’m an electrical engineer specializing in the area of electromagnetics and radio-frequency energy, but early on I was interested in Physics and toying with the idea of chemical engineering. I’ve worked for everyone from defense contractors to bio-medical research. I have designed and built sections of Over the Horizon RADAR (OTHR) systems, various Electronic Counter Measures systems, MRI systems, and other devices.

As such, I deal with communications systems on a regular basis. When the NITA, the government agency responsible for protecting radio frequencies used by our very own government came back with a report saying BPL (Broadband Over Power lines) would cause problems with communications systems used by our Government, the Bush administration sent the report back and told them to change it. Even Homeland Security issues, like a worthless communications media that would cause damage to military and other communications systems, don’t cause the Bush administration to do what is morally and technically correct.

It doesn’t matter if it is Federal Prosecutors, Global Warming, communications systems, our forest land, illegal aliens, or any other problem the Bush administration has a clear track record of ignoring problems and lying to the public. That’s a fact.

It’s also a fact that global warming is real, and the USA is one of the very few countries who has not joined the Global Initiative. It isn’t difficult to find and read the actual data, and you don’t need to read anything by Al Gore.

The question isn't whether or not global warming exist. It is a known fact that our temperature has increased one degree over the past 100 years. The question is whether or not it is man made. Is it possible that the sun is hotter? Is it possible that our earth goes through natural stages of warming and cooling. I believe both of these are very simple and logical explenations. If not, how do you explain the Medieval warm period and the melting polar ice caps on mars? For those of you that say we should join the "global initiative", why should we spend the money and time, not to mention sustain the crippling effects to our economy, when the cause of the problem is largely unknown.

The fact that Bush was even brought into this discussion shows the root of the problem. It isn't a left vs right, or democrat vs republican discussion. Though, this particular issue has been hijacked by the communist and socialist of the mid 20th century. That is why the Kyoto Treaty only attacks developed capitalist countries and not the largest producers of CO2. However, this issue is a science. There should be hard evidence and that evidence should point to a conclusion and support a hypothesis. And all scientists, and any logical thinker, know that because "A" happens after "B", that "B" didn't necessarily cause "A". Point in case being that because our earth has warmed while CO2 levels have risen, doesn't mean that rising CO2 levels cause global warming.

The global warming proponents are the ones trying to block information. There are many examples, the most recent of which is the weather channel calling for all meterologist who wouldn't admit that global warming was man made to lose their liscense. This is the action of someone trying to hinder the purpose of science. For what reason would they want scientist to blindly admit something in the absence of supporting knowledge? That is not science at all, but simple propaganda.

Youre old friend said…The question isn't whether or not global warming exist. It is a known fact that our temperature has increased one degree over the past 100 years. The question is whether or not it is man made. Is it possible that the sun is hotter? >

Solar activity is well documented. Odd as it might seem to people outside scientific circles, we even know the solar activity way back 1000 years ago. We even know how long the sunspot cycle took, and when it settled into an 11 year cycle. Nature records all this for us.
The fact is solar activity has not increased. There has been no measurable increase in solar brightness since the mid-70’s when Global Warming started accelerating rapidly. As a matter of fact the change in solar radiation the past 1000 years is so minuscule it couldn’t possibly have an effect. So you’ll have to try some other theory, because we already know solar temperature.

The southern ice cap on Mars, the one we can see from here, is “melting” because it is spring on Mars. Their "year" is not nearly the same time as our earth year. It is carbon dioxide (dry ice), not water. Actually because the cap we see now is CO2 and not water it turns directly to gas, and does not go into a liquid state at all. When fall returns to the Martian South pole, the cap will reform.
You won’t find any example that ties solar activity into our global warming because we can already accurately determine solar radiation and it hasn’t changed. By the way I did a science fair project on the sun in seventh grade, way back in 1961. I remember the year because it was the same year Mad Magazine printed an issue you could turn upside down and read.

>The fact that Bush was even brought into this discussion shows the root of the problem>

I’m not sure why Bush was brought into this issue, nor am I sure why Walter Geiger was compelled to bring Al Gore into it. It really is a serious matter, and all the unbiased information is available in scientific journals and reports. We don’t need to depend on Gore or Bush. I have to say though, it is a fact that the Bush administration cooks the data on anything big money doesn’t like. While Bush certainly didn’t cause the problem the fact he isn’t very bright and doesn’t run an honest administration isn’t helping the issue. Someday we will have to pay the bill.

Tom Rauch

How can anyone call Bush the worst president ever when there is Millard Fillmore, who apparently didn't do anything while in office. William Taft who was involved with the graft at Tamany Hall. John Kennedy, who had numerous affairs at the White House and has a brother who is a murderer. Lyndon Johnson, who escalated the fighting in Viet Nam but wouldn't let the troops bomb any viable targets. Jimmy Carter, who bungled every thing he touched. Bill Clinton, who seem to think that every woman he could see was his to have. And his wife who quite possibly was involved with a man's apparent suicide.

There have been a lot of lousy presidents. From both parties. Some of them criminally negligent. Some of them just in over their head. But every one of them politicians who mostly cared about being reelected. All of them have lied at one time or another. (I did not have sex with that woman.) (I am not a crook.) So for any one to point fingers and say that someone is worse than another is pure hypocrisy.

And don't get me started on the biased media.

Rauch,
You didn't address the medieval warm period. Was that a convenient mistake? Sorry, had to throw that in. I know the Martian year is longer than ours. But I am sure we have been observing for atleast a few of its years, and would know if the melting of the polar ice cap was seasonal or not.

Why does the Kyoto Accords not punish China and India's economy like it would ours?

What caused the end of the first ice age? What has caused every cyclical warming and cooling of our earth throughout time? Why is this one special? This has been going on for billions of years with no human involvement, what makes the most recent one our fault? What happened to the global cooling that we were warned about in the mid 70's?

Anonymous said...

Unknown person,

You can't win an argument by going back to a point that is already disproven in multiple ways.

We know the amount of temperature rise caused by a change in solar activity; we know how that translates to heat. We can measure solar radiation.

Increased solar activity is not a factor.

As a matter of fact we are at a solar minimum in the 11 year cycle and the mean global temperature is still going up when historically it should have declined. The sun is heating the earth very slightly less than it was 5-6 years ago, but mean temperature didn't follow!

As for the medieval warm period, that's another lame argument used by people who just repeat things without understanding what they mean. That warming period affected ONLY the North Atlantic area. Other areas were cooling.

The rate of change is important in predicting an effect, and we have to be careful to look at the mean value of temperature over the entire world, not some isolated area that happens to randomly fit the result we want to believe.

I understand it takes time to research and understand complex problems, and that people aren't willing to admit they might have to change their lifestyle or way of thinking.

I suggest you go outside today and look up at the sky. The area of breathable atmosphere over your head is only a couple miles thick. 90% of the atmosphere is at a height well below the distance between Barnesville and Forsyth! We have, since the 60's, actually changed the composition of that atmosphere.

We live in a pretty thin shell and we know how it is changing. We don't need to guess, we can measure it.

Look at the huge volume of water on earth, and we have altered the composition of all that water! Now look up again and think about all the crap we pour into that egg shell over your head.

It seems you are well versed in the subject. Will you please clear up a few more questions I have?

Is it possible that we are emerging from the little ice age?

What is the total net climate change of the past century, half century, decade?

Where can I go to verify your information? It is hard to find an objective view of this subject on the internet.

What happened to the global cooling hysteria?

We all need to take care of the Earth better but trying scare tactics just isn't the way. Beleiving in Global Warming is like beleiving in anything else, some do-some don't-fact for this-fact for that-both disagreeing with each other. No one knows yet!

Anonymous said...

But it shouldn't be like believing in anything else. You shouldn't have to have faith in the presence of man made global warming, nor should you need faith against man made global warming. There are hard true facts out there that either supports or dispproves the hypothesis of man made global warming.

Do I stand alone in believing this is all propaganda? Has anyone else noticed around election time the media seems to pick some no brainer issue (who doesn't want a healthy environment for their kids and grandkids) and make it political? Does anyone remember the big liberal media using illegal immigration during the last election to splinter the Republican party. The Democratic party (which is basically big media as well) is using this issue to centralize their voting core -- they've got the anti-war group now throw in the treehuggers and they have strong chance of having another Clinton in the White House. Just like illegal immigration as soon as this election is over all this global meltdown stuff will find the backburner until they need it again. Don't get me wrong...they will have congressional meetings and studies and billions of dollars will be being spent researching but you just won't hear about after November 08.

Tom,
This site http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17952631/ updated yesterday, says that dust storms may be causing the thaw on Mars. It also says that the temperature on Mars has gone up 1.71 degrees in the past twenty years, comparable to what has been seen on earth in the last hundred years. It also said many theories had been postulated as to what was the cause. So I guess it depends on where you get your information. Opinions are like noses, every body has one. You might be a smart man, or just think you are, that still doesn't mean your opinion is more correct than someone else's.

Also, I'm sorry you haven't been able to hold a job. You say you've worked for everyone. Maybe if you weren't quite so high and mighty you might be able to keep a job.

That means much more than comments made by people hiding behind a screen name or anonymous. Apparently they have a shadow of doubt about what they say and they don’t want anyone to know who they are. It also gives them the ability to make lame attacking comments.
