as tour de georgia rolls thru lamar county from west to east on highway 18. the tour 'traffic bubble' requires law enforcement to close every intersection with the route at once when the riders reach the lamar-pike county line.
in bville, the route runs along rose ave., left on thomaston st., right on taylor st., left on college dr. and right on forsyth st. riders then head to monroe county on highway 18 east.
the peloton cruises at 26-28 mph.
a great vanatge point will be the lawn of the first united methodist church in barnesville where a race sprint line is located.
if you are not patient in traffic, you'd best stay home from 1:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
check back today for updates.

Oh, that's just great. Something else to add to the end of school day traffic.
just wait till you have the horse and buggy riding around thursday....how stupid. Traffic is already congested enough.
Yeah what with the golf carts being allowed on the streets. The streets and roads were built for vehicles not golf carts. If four wheelers are not allowed on the county roads why should golf carts be allow to imped traffic in an already congested area.
a golf cart IS a vehicle. 4 wheelers can be driven on county roads as long as they are not a nuisance. and what the heck is "imped"? some people just need something to complain about
If you don't know what imped is maybe you should look it up. A golf cart may be a vehicle but does it require that you have a liscense and insurance to drive and does it pay advalorum taxes for the use of the road. When it is a requirement to have insurance, liscense and pay taxes then maybe there would be no complaints. When a person gets in their car to go to work, school or whatever he is not out for a joy ride and should not have to be hindered by joyriders on golf carts.
for yall that think barnesville has traffic problems then they aint no help for yall. yall need to get out of town more often.
i use my golf cart to go to work and for leisure just like car drivers do. i have never "imped" anyone. maybe i have IMPEDED the flow of traffic, but i try not to. i abide by the traffic laws and have a right to the roadway as given by the laws of the state of georgia. heck, i even go by the city ordinances which is why i drive in the road and not on the sidewalk. if this requires further discussion, let me know. ill pick you up on my cart and we'll go for a nice ride and have a nice conversation. =c)
Let's start a petition demanding that golf carts be regulated just as vehicles are. Requiring liscense, tag, and insurance. Then you will have a right to impede traffic.
The law is already there but just not enforced. To operate a vehicle on the road it must be licenced and display a tag. It must be equipped with turn signals, headlamps, brake lights, and running lights. It must be insured with a miminum of liability insurance, and the operator must be licenced to operate a motor vehicle.
On the oyher hand I don't see what the big deal is. This is Bvill, not downtown L.A. One good thing about a small town is the ability to putt-putt around and talk to the people. Perhaps you should try it and meet the people. You might actually enjoy it.
I don't really think I would like it. I don't like sticking my nose in other people's business. I live in the country and really enjoy being able to go out on my backporch or in my backyard and not have to acknowledge my neighbor who is also minding his own business

Answer: You are wrong. GA law states that Motorized carts are not required to have lights and insurance:
Get your facts straight before making stupid comments.
The state of Georgia does not require tags, titles, or registrations for the following vehicles:
Mopeds
Off-road vehicles
All-terrain vehicles
Motorized carts
Farm trailers weighing less than 3,500 pounds
Farm trailers with no springs, pulled from a tongue, and used primarily for fertilizer
Any tractor or three-wheeled motorcycle used only for agricultural purposes
Whoever asked, you DO need the licence and liability insurance to operate golf cart AND you can only drive on the streets. Reed here:
