bypass bridge taking shape....

this bridge over a tributary of tobesofkee creek on the southeast barnesville bypass seems to be the last hurdle to finishing construction of the roadway which is to open in stages over the sumer and be complete by october.

the bridge is located on what used to be the doug lee farm, on the segment of the bypass connecting highway 341 and gordon road.

do you think the bypass will have a positive impact on traffic in barnesville. it is designed to get through trucks out of the downtown area.

I traveled between Barnesville and Forsyth for several years. I often made the comment that there needed to be a bypass south of town because of the redlights and the truck traffic going through town. Some days it would take 30 minutes or more to get out of town. Considering how small Barnesville is that's saying alot. It will also help get around the trains that are switching in town. I for one think the bypass is really going to help.

Just curious - Is the By-pass going to be 2 lane or 4 lane. If only 2 lane, isn't that a waste of money?

It will have a positive impact on removing traffic in town & will probably have a negative impact on the businesses in town. Many businesses throughout the country either went out of business, lost money or moved once local bypasses were built.

Hopefully enough land was purchased to make it a 4 lane in the future.

Even if its a two lane, it'll still split a lot of the through traffic from the local traffic and maybe pull some commuters going to Gordon away from the light at MacDonald's.

Come on nothing is going to help with the congested area around Mickey Dee's. Now there is going to be a BigChic on the adjacent corner maybe we all should look for another way to get out of Barnesville. What with the traffic stalled by trains blocking all of the exit streets towards griffin now we have to look for other ways out.
