carter's, the former william carter co., hopes to "turn it around" this year, according to ceo fred rowan. carter's bought oshkosh in 2005.
carter's was once a mainstay of the local economy with 1500 plus employees. but the company pulled out, sending hundreds of jobs overseas. the company still employs about 200 at its distribution center.
carter's latest victim is the city of white house, tennessee where it is closing a 20 year old plant with 215 employees. the plant is the largest employer in the small town near nashville.

Thank our politicans for NAFTA. This is the downfall of all manufactoring in the United States. You can't blame companies for going overseas, when our goverenment encourages it.
I thought Carters ownership was foreign, so it is kind of what would you expect.
as goes carter's, so goes all american industry eventually. Management cries they pay employees too much in America but consider some executives with million+ plus bonuses,etc. Consider we may put our ownselves out! All of us including me!
Pretty soon the common working person won't have a place to go to work but the government won't help us out. But yet we keep allowing the foreigners to come over here get tax free government loans and don't pay taxes while the common blue-collar worker does without. It's just not right to allow the illegal aleins to keep coming over to our country and take what few jobs that are left.
