lamar jailers reginald respress (front) and jarvis allen (rear) enter lamar county magistrate court this afternoon for a bond hearing. each is charged with two counts of sexual assault against a person in custody and faces 30 years in prison on each count.
the assaults involve alleged 'sexual contact' and 'oral sexual contact' with three different inmates.
judge william thomas set bond for each man at $10,000. both remain in jail.
the investigation was handled in-house by sheriff joe buice and his criminal investigations division.

No the sheriff does not live at the jail. But as the sheriff he is responsible for the management of the facility and the conduct of its employees. That something like this happened in a jail so small would indicate a lack of supervision or an inability to hire trustworthy personel.

Seems to me the persons got caught.
What difference does it make whether the Sheriff was there or not. They were his agents to fullfill the correct operation of the Jail. They failed. It appears the Sheriff made the investigation and arrested his own personnel who had abused their positions.
Good for the Sheriff finding this problem.

I guess these guys saw so many criminals, that they wanted to be one. You cannot blame the Sheriff, he hired them on the validity of their resume, and the need to fill the position, with what appeared to be the correct persons. These guys failed their jobs and failed themselves. They are the only ones who should be blamed. This is not written by anyone who would be called a friend of anyone in Law Enforcement in this county, But respects what they have to do.

I went to high school with Jarvis Allen and Reginald Respress and it’s hard to believe what they have done. Now they will have to serve time in prison. I feel bad about the situation because we were friends in school. It’s just hard to believe that these two guys would do something like this to destroy their whole lives.I really wish the best for my former classmates. But, if you do the crime, than you can do the time.
Wasn't there another case a few years ago under the previous administration where John Yarbrough was accused of the same thing? Whatever happened in that case? Was Yarbrough ever indicted or convicted?

This is nothing new....The "sex" acts have been going on in that jail since it's been there. At one time there was a couple of female jailers who had sexual contact with inmates in the control room.. One of the females still works there. She was never caught obviously. Kinda hard to catch this kinda stuff when it happens at night and all are asleep!! Well most..
HOW do you know she was doing that if she was never caught?? Were you in there with her? Some people just don't realize how ignorant they sound!!

My ex-husband used to work there and he seen it going on, it was late at night and he was making rounds and walked by the control room and there they were!! He didn't say anything because he was a quite person and didnt wanna get involved in anything like that. So yeah I may sound ignorant to you and that's ok I was just making a comment as well as others do on here. Or should I run it through you first and get an okay??

Ok so let me get this right...in one post you said "she was never caught" but you knew about it. In another you said your ex caught her but was a "quite" person. I would say that sounded pretty ignorant. My point is you say someone was never caught leaves me to believe your story is hear say and maybe even made up to bash someone you personally don't like. Maybe not! But when you say someone was never caught but you know about it makes me wonder how you know. I'm not trying or wanting to bash anyone, I was simply saying that the "sex acts" have been going on there for a while. I haven't stated anyone's name so therefore no one knows who I'm talking about. Any yeah my ex was an officer of the law and should have upheld his duties more professionally, I agree and two wrongs don't make a right.

Of everyone that wrote a message here it is sad to see that no one took a moment to think that maybe these men are innocent. I have known Reginald a long time and he is happily married with a baby on the way. He has been working faithfully everyday in that jailhouse without hissing or complaining even though he was passed up several times by the facility for a promotion. Instead they would hire some young white male and send him to training instead of Reginald. To me that is a pretty messed up situation. Maybe y'all should take some time and discuss that situation. Now they taking the word of some "respectable" inmate whom is probably trying to get some time off. Reginald worked several years in the prison in Jackson where his supervisors had nothing but good things to say about this young gentlemen. Not to mention that he passed the polygraph test stating that he did not do it. There are a few good people left in the world and he is one of them. Unfortunately he is a black man caught in a white man system. But God prevails over all men and I have no doubt in my mind that he will take care of Reginald. Watch out Lamar County, we're coming for you!!!

If someone gets turned down for a job then that means there was someone more qualified for the job than them. Thats the way it should be. People shouldnt have to hire people just to make sure the "race count" at that job is even. The standards for everything in this country has been lowered just so people wont yell discrimination. This goes deeper than just race...its men against women, handicapped, mentally retarted,etc...Do they even have special ed classes at the school anymore. From my understanding they are intergrating all the kids together in the same classrooms. Who is this fair to?
I hope ther are innocent. I hate to hear of people in these positions abusing their power. I hurts everyone, not just the accused. So if they are innocent, thats great, if not then they deserve what ever they get. Now with that said, I hate ignorant people and people who choose to use race as an excuse for everything. Please Lamar Countians!!! Let's stop the race card game.Why must we as adults( black and white) always talk race. This is the year 2007. We were ALL created equal and we all have the same blood. RED!!! The color of one's skin should NOT make a difference. No wonder our children are screwed up and have no morals or values. This is what we teach them. I don't doubt for one minute that my children WILL make mistakes and screw up in this life but the difference is, I WILL NOT be there defending them with every sad excuse I can come up with when they are wrong. It is easy to speak on issues, but we should refrain from passing judgment until all evidence is heard. These young men have not been found quilty. I know Jarvis Allen, and I know who raised him and how they raised him. Every Monday night he was at prayer meeting, and at church on Sunday. He will be graduating from college in a few months.He was an honor student in high school and an outstanding football player.In fact, he never had a discipline problem in school.
Maybe an internal affairs investigation would be in order. It seems that there may be other questionable practices going on as well.

Maybe someone knows the ones committing the other activities you speak of and they know they were good kids and went to prayer meeting. What difference does it make. They got caught, enough said. If I were committing sex acts with someone who is at my mercy in a jail cell then I would go to prayer meeting too and ask for forgiveness!! Go try and push the racial issue somewhere else. First ammendment is free speech and that is what is said here. There is no threatening of any kind so how do you get it goes way beyond. People speaking of how sick they are of using their racial oppression to justify their wrongs is opinion which equals freedom of speech. Too bad if you don't like it. Also I don't think just because this guy going to prayer meetings being number one in football and things like that makes him not capable of doing bad things, for goodness sakes you see preachers on the news that molest children!! You know what really sucks? It really sucks when there is an eye witness who can confirm what has took place. But you know what really, really just sucks? When there are security cameras that has just caught you violating someones rights. That really just sucks. It does not matter what the race, creed, or nationality is, when you are wrong, you are wrong. And at the end of time when we have done all we have done on this Earth and we stand before our maker. It wont matter if courts in this country find us guilty or not. What will matter is that God says I forgive you. Last I checked Jesus did not remove the state imposed penalty on the one who hung beside him on the cross. He just said I forgive you and today you will be with me in paridise.
So while you sit here and debate guilty or innocent. While you respond here about facts that you have no real clues about and then throw your racist remarks out on this blog. Know this I dont care who you are, if you have read this you have violated a law and deserve punishment. Maybe it is not mans law that you have violated but I promise you at some time or another you have violated God's law.
So it is a sad day when someone that is suppose to hold the publics trust and confidence and actually betrays the very oath they say they will stand by. But it is even a worse thing when someone stands before God, the only one who knows all things, and they have not made right their actions before him.

p.s. I just hope all my friends that I have hired, are out on bail or have not been caught yet, because I need them to attend the next sheriffs auction. There are some things I really worked hard to get that I want back.

The sad part of the whole situation is that no one wants to see what is right in front of them. There were no eye witnesses and worse of all, the sheriff's department wants to drop the charges to misdemeanors!! Now why in the world would they drop the charges if they have so much evidence. And for those of you who think that racism no longer exists in Barnesville you are sadly mistaken. Open your eyes to see what is right in front of you. There were not caught with their pants down. They were suspended and then asked to return to work. This is a sounding board for people to come together and adjust to what is going on around them. Just because he was arrested does not mean he is guilty. Christ was hung on the cross. What did he do wrong??? So what makes you think that innocent people are not wrongly accused. I am someone who knows more about this case than any of you. There is NO evidence. The sheriff's department is trying to settle. Seems like someone made a mistake somewhere. There are good people out there still. Sometimes you just have to believe that the greater good will prevail. My advice to the sheriff's department imvestigate before arresting, not the other way around.
