Johnny Poore is a good selection, in my opinion.
However, I do not feel we need a county manager. If we need one, we dont need County Commissioners.
One or the other.

Johnny has done wonders for the Solid Waste Authority and I think he will do a wonderful job with the County if he has time to divide between to two because both are full times jobs.

All I hear is the County is in a financial tail spin. Then they want to spend more on a County Manager. Doesnt make sense to me.
What makes sense to me is get finances under control, stop buying baloney, like Old Tstreet Barracks, and learn to live by the countys means. Then perhaps a decision such as this can be done.
I just think the Voters should make the decision.

I agree with the statement of letting the voters decide!! This county is all about doing things without the voters involvement and it is OLD!! Which position will be hurting from this the county management or solid waste. One or the other WILL be affected since you cannot work full time at both. This man obviously has a career already, so give someone else a chance in this county instead of someone who KNOWS someone!!

Johnny Poore can get more done in 1 hour that some of us in 8. Stop being so negative. If he or the Commissioners laid a golden egg some of you would complain because it was not gold enough. No I'm not a relative just have known him all my life. He is a good man. Last time I checked there were 24 hours in a day and if he wants he can work 8 at each job.

I dont think Johnny walks on water.
I dont think he would do a bad job.
I do believe, we have either a manager or county commissioners. One or the Other. That is not negative. It is more positive than overloading the county with overhead.

It is a good business decision for the county and will prove so in the long run. It is what counties do nowadays anyway, what's the big deal.

I disagree with WDM on the so called good business decision. Adding Overhead is not a good business decision, even if additional income is expected. The end has to justify the mean.

Will Johnny Poore wear a white shirt when he picks up garbage in the county, as his picture shows?

The paper has the job described as interim county manager/management consultant. To be more precise, it is worded as follows:

- Johnny Poore has been hired by the county commission as interim county manager/management consultant for a period not to exceed 12 months. The move is being funded by the Town of Aldora at no expense to the taxpayers, according to new county commission chairman Jay Matthews.

- Poore heads up the Lamar County Solid Waste Authority and is highly acclaimed and respected in his field.

The questions that I asked are, in my opinion, reasonable questions.

1. Who else was considered for this position?

• Reason: How was Johnny Poore chosen? Was he selected from a list of qualified people that responded to a properly county advertised position or did he get his name pulled from the hat, so to speak, whereas other qualified people had no opportunity to fill the position?

2. Just what is a county manager/management consultant? (JOB DISCRIPTION)

• Reason: What is the job description? There is a difference between a full time manager and a consultant. Will he be actually managing and acting on his management decisions, or will he just be consulted by the BOC so the BOC can act on the decisions that he makes?

3. Please explain (being funded by the Town of Aldora)

• Reason: What happened? Did the BOC obtain voluntary contributions from the residents of Aldora, over and above their taxes to fund this position? I don’t know how others see it but, the money has to come from some where and, I don’t think voluntary contributions were made so, that would mean it would have to come from some tax base.

4. What does the position pay?

• Reason: How much is it “NOT” costing the tax payers? The SWA may be seen as self supporting but, in the past, taxes were collected to pay for waste disposal. With the development of the SWA, the users pay a fee for this service but taxes were never actually reduced. Your perception was changed along with your wallet or pocket book. The job of city manager demands a rather large paycheck and I would assume the job of county manager would be no different. You can rest assured that the job of managing the SWA is not a minimum wage job either. Combine the two together and it is likely “NOT” costing the taxpayers over 150-170K per year.

5. I thought that the Solid Waste Authority position was a full time job. Does this mean he is no longer working with the SWA?

• Reason: If both jobs are full time jobs and both must be worked during normal business hours, (meaning during the day), there is not enough day for both jobs unless county manager work is accomplished on SWA time and SWA work is accomplished on county manager time. Therefore, are two paychecks being collected for what might be considered a normal business day?

If our leadership is leading by deception, then not much has changed in my opinion. I am not questioning Johnny’s qualifications, his integrity, or his ability to do both jobs. I do question the selection process, what the job actually entails, how it is “NOT” costing tax payers and how much it is “NOT” costing them, and how the job is to be accomplished in such a short business day schedule.

GMCALL you hit the nail on the head. there is too much unsaid, but implied in this action. Who believes there is a free lunch?

Something smells & it's not the trash!

anonymous 2:59 Thank you for your comment. You could not be more correct. Some folks don't understand that good leadership saves money and Johnny will do a good job providing organization as well as direction for the commissioners.

anonymous @ 7:48 - I don't think no one is questioning if Johnny can do a good job or not. The question is the way it was done. Do you even understand that? Do you even care?

I think Mr. Poore will probably be a great asset. Don't know him personally but he seems to be well educated and serious about his career or careers....BUT we should be concerned that our tax dollars are paying for an individual to work for the drug task force and police dept arresting people for crimes who himself has FOUR children he DOES NOT SUPPORT and is a deadbeat dad!!!! Don't think I can say his name and get this posted but I am sure everyone will know who he is since he is living off another low life female who works for the Lamar county sheriff dept!! That should be a bigger issue instead of whether or not a man can maintain two jobs!! Don't down a good man with there are so many sorry men in good positions WE are paying for!!!

Yeah, I think it was your kin. Let me look through the names listed in the paper for the most recent drug bust.....this shouldnt take long to figure out.

Isnt it funny how some people can sit and judge others, even when they dont have all of the correct information. Anon 7 pm, how can you talk about others when you need to clean up around your own house.

I know no one from the SO, the man in question works w/ the PD! Not angry but I am happy to send my check every month for mine and it makes me sick to see a man who holds a position of authority and doesn't even take care of something he helped make! SAD not Mad dont get it twisted.
As I said to begin w/ I believe getting all upset over Johnny Poore whom I dont know but have heard nothing but great things about doing TWO jobs of all things is ridiculous to me. I say thats a man who wants to work, help, and better the community. He is from old school parents. Men today are punks and this BOY is proving that with every breath he takes. Nevertheless....must be your buddy or you have kids you dont support!
