votes were expensive here today...

republican chuck eaton outpolled democratic incumbent david burgess for a seat on the public service commission here today. the vote was 174-138.

312 of lamar's 9277 registered voters bothered to cast ballots. that is 3.36% turnout.

estimates of the cost to local taxpayers for holding today's election ran from $12,000 to $15,000 or $38.46 per vote on the low end to $48.08 per vote on the high end.

Why shouldnt we talk about the freedom to vote, as opposed to the cost of voting. A positive viewpoint could be a way to get more persons to the polls.
