hints emerge about rerouted hwy. 36 route...

it is very likely hwy. 36 will be four-laned and relocated from I-75 through lamar county to a new truck bypass around thomaston in upson county.

under primo conditions and with political clout behind it, construction still is unlikely to begin for at least 10 years.

according to mapping on display at a meeting on the proposal held here today, the new road will use the current roadbed until its intersection with high falls park road where it diverts to the east running near the barnesville reservoir.

it then crosses the old roadbed near lilla baptist church and highway 41 near liz acres.

the road then turns southwest, where two routes are mapped. one follows a gas line easement into upson county. the other follows a georgia power transmission line easement out of lamar.

both those segments cross aldora street and highway 18 west east of where those roads intersect.

details in the december 19 print edition of the herald-gazette.

The road is an enigma to me. Why wouldnt the state be more concerned with completing 341 to Perry, something I feel would be a greater relief to traffic.

If you don't understand why 36 needs relief now...wait til the quarry is up and running. It's not an enigma if you drive it.

That is not the only route to get you to 75. Still an enigma, and possible waste of tax money.

It will be 10 years before the work is done, according to DOT proposals, by then the Quarry may be an airport

Package me up some of that which you have been smoking and send it over. I think the enigma is the puff of smoke you are inhaling. What other routes are there to 75 N with an even relatively closeness to 36 from B'ville.

Not Smoking anything. Apparantly you are a creature of habit and cannot change a habit. That is a shame. Dont believe you can read well either, or you would know that 10 years is the projection.
Guess Forrest Gump described you best. Stupid is as Stupid does

There is nothing to be ashamed of my friend...I love my life. But as you said I am stupid so here is what I am going to do. I am going to watch Forrest Gump over and over so I can start quoting him and make myself appear smart like you.

I'd be interested in learning more about the political clout behind this decision. The current traffic would not warrent such a costly endeavor, however this could be the 'shot in the arm' that is needed for the middle-west Georgia area. A new Hwy 36 could become the gateway of commerce to the region.

1:45pm wrote "Hwy 36 could become the gateway of commerce to the region." you got to be kidding!!what industry in their right mind would come to barnesville ga,when was the last time you went to ingles?, its like going to a third world country, better yet its like a jerry springer show, just ride thru town, you would think your at a hip-hop convention, come on get real,"gateway of commerce" ,right, they need to put up a sign that says "YOU ARE NOW LEAVNING THE UNITED STATES AND ENTERING THE COUNTRY OF BARNESVILLE-YOU ARE REQUIRED TO TURN YOUR RAIDO ALL THE WAY UP -TURN YOUR HAT AROUND BACKWARD-LAY DOWN YOUR CAR SEAT-AND YACK ON THE CELL PHONE" yeee hawww--let the fun begin, fire away!!

While I can respect Gen. Ledger's intent, I must side with 1:45. The state can do all they want for development of this area, but they are going to be met with ignorant opposition. It's the gene pool, or lack of it.

One important note -- Milner is the gas hub and those trucks pound 36 to Morgan Dairy. And when the rock quarry opens up, that side of 36 will be mayhem. For those who don't think the progress is coming, take a look around because the northern Lamar County landscape is changing daily. In ten years, 36 will not be capable of handling all the vehicles that will be using it. If you take just the subdivisions that are already in place on 36 or direct proximity, you are talking about adding another 500 cars daily on 36 in the next 3 to 4 years. A smart county is the one that has the infra-structure in place before the headaches begin.

I believe the local government has little to do with highway 36 construction or expansion -- with input and money. The state guys have the necessary info and foresightedness to see the big picture and know that in ten years it will be a 'must' project. Don't forget how quick 10 years will go bye.

The plan to widen hwy. 36 is a conspiracy to further irratate Merritt Taylor. It wil ruin the beauty of Lovett's Ridge.

midnight hauler, you may have hit the nail on the head. It indicates there is a possibility that a conspiracy exist to irritate Merritt Taylor. Seems to me that is alot of money spent for that. wdm may be behind this.

wdm: How well I know how fast 10 years goes. Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.
